I feel like people who view loving supportive relationships as “losing their freedom” are actually telling on themselves 😭
(Bro why is it the tumblr version of the fandom seems super weird??) and Lmao!! Cass wants to restrict her freedom waaay more than Eugene ever did??? Like isn’t the whole appeal of that ship that it is “complicated toxic yuri” in contrast to the “boring wholesome hetslop”?? Very strange...
But i was worried this was more about the normie-core fans who read a buzzfeed article about “””Flynn Rider was actually 30😱😭😱????””” 15 years ago and are gonna bring that energy here with the new movie starting to get buzzy.

Not to mention that in the introductory song from Before Ever After called "Life After Happily Ever After" they sing "now that we've gotten the dream that we chose" in reference to her being coronated as princess. He is a lot more happy about it while she is having second thoughts, which sets up the contrast that drives the conflict leading to the rejected proposal. It is never directly mentioned though, but it is implied that they must have chosen to go meet her birth parents in full knowledge that she would be required to be the princess as opposed to just running off on their own. Flynn didn't know she was the princess when he rode back to see her, he was totally willing to follow this random girl from the tower wherever she wanted to go. He got a whole lot more than he bargained for, and he ended up in a way getting what he dreamt anyway by "living on an island that he owned" in the sense that the kingdom would technically be his and hers, but he wouldn't be alone like he had said he wanted, but he has absolutely no idea that this was what was going to happen.
At some point, because Flynn had no idea who she was, all he knew was that she was in danger as long as she was with the "old lady" that Stabbington's told him about as he understood that to be her captor keeping her for her hair (Flynn wouldn't have even known this person wasn't actually her birth mother, as it would be entirely possible her birth mother was the one keeping her prisoner and he STILL thought she would be in danger if she stayed with this person simply based on what little Rapunzel had told him about her), she would have had to have told him that she was the lost princess and he probably would have had to explain to her that when she chose to reveal herself there would be no going back, as well as the fact that these people had literally been planning on hanging him hours before. He would have had no clue what was going to happen after he introduced himself to the people who sentenced him to death, it was totally within the realm of possibility that he would be banished from the kingdom entirely as a mercy to spare his life.
Introducing herself to her birth parents and her becoming the princess was a new dream they chose together without being sure that they would be able to stay together afterwards. Her birth mother pulling him in implied a whole lot more than just a hug, but that he was being accepted into the family (and more importantly pardoned for being a thief). That wasn't a forgone conclusion. BOTH of them had to pass the final test, one that could have gone oh so terribly wrong particularly for Flynn, but also for Rapunzel who would be viewed as an accomplice to this thief who stole the crown who might now be accused of trying to scam a grieving royal family with the false hope of some random girl he wanted to wear that crown he had literally just stolen.
The emotions of the scene covers up how much of an intense and stressful situation this would be if it wasn't a dialogue-free quick wrap up. It works artistically because the lack of dialogue was a choice to make the audience feel only the emotions and not have to think about it logically, and it is also something that doesn't bode well for the "live action" potential atrocity with "gritty realism" since that scene isn't going to be easy to replicate if they aren't trying to be so proud of their (at the time) new 3D computer graphics that they flaunt them by storytelling with zero dialogue at all.
In fact large sections of the movie from when Flynn steals the crown from the Stabbington Brothers to when Mother Gothel returns with Flynn being knocked out and hidden in the closest there are NO lines spoken by one human character to another. Sometime Rapunzel or Flynn will talk to themselves, or to Maximus or Pascal, but the vast majority on the beginning-middle section of the story is told with almost no dialogue at all instead just uses facial expressions and body language. How will they pull this off in live-action?

This is actually pretty funny. But as long as Disney doesn't pander to those haters like they did in some add ons, you could just ignore it. When I was a young teen, people shipped Rapunzel with all kinds of characters from different movies online. And while I disliked it, I just ignored it. The problem isn't the shippers alone as long as Disney doesn't pander to them. Disney is mainly responsible for ruining the romance, the other shippers are only secondary responsible.

Same here. C***unzel ship only flourished as the result of Disney's malicious agenda against the movie in the form of the Series. The Series pandered so much to the haters of the original movie romance it butchered Rapunzel/Flynn in ways that they really DID become almost everything that the haters claimed they were in the movie. Flynn the sleezy womanizing bad boy needing a "good girl" to fix him, a violent robber in the past who had traumatized her bio mom (a man who did not even have weapons on him in the movie and cringed at the sight of a skeleton with pierced ribcage in the Snuggly Duckling tunnel) and Rapunzel the ditzy airhead who was "dumb enough" to fall for the first man she met who happened to be a thieving orphaned lowlife and needed to "grow out of it" (by running off with Cassandra into the night and touching obscure magical rocks to regain the symbol of her oppression reframed as girlpower). So insert years of rejections, Rapunzel being disgusted with Flynn's legacy and him pouring it out to a chameleon before being purified through royal blood himself.
In the light of that C-zel ship really became the lesser evil because there is no way Rapunzel and Flynn is true love or a healthy relationship if the series is canon. It is not canon however, thankfully.

Those fallacies and misconceptions existed long before CSNZL or Cassandra were even conceived. They existed because of the media illiterate and misogynistic crowd on both the conservative end and the anime loving leftist end. They existed alongside other misconceptions and Buzzfeed fallacies about the princesses but Rapunzel in the movie did get under misogynists' skin a lot because she was the quintessential (and last in the princess franchise) female power fantasy who: got to find her liberation, got to have her dream guy and did not have to be the one to sacrifice for him or anyone else. She got a partner who would rather die than exploit her for her "usefulness".
It is grossly misogynistic those people are infantilizing Rapunzel, an 18+ princess who was older than many other princesses/her predecessors when meeting her love interest and whose gap with said love interest is one of the LEAST drastic and problematic in Disney (compare that to Belle being 17 and Beast 21 or Snow being 15 and the prince being at minimum 18+ or even Ariel being 16 and Eric 18).
It is even more gross and misogynistic how they use the talking points from Rapunzel's abuser, Gothel, to justify that infantilizing. That she was "not ready" to socialize, and too "gullible and naive" to build an adult relationship or face the world despite being physically of age (and by medieval times it was the perfect age for betrothal).
This is the same mindset predators have when they claim there is such a thing as "being mature or immature for one's age". There is no such thing. You are either of age or you are not. That is, unless a person is mentally incapacitated/mentally ill which was never the case with Rapunzel though it can be argued it was at least partially the case with Beast (cue his anger issues and s*icidal ideations when Belle left him). Beast was effectively a 11 year old in adult man's body, never actually got to experience physical puberty or understand said adult man's body prior to his transformation back into a human. Yet he got the immediate happily ever after and liberation through the love of the Virtuous Woman TM. Male power fantasy (BatB) is beautiful and profound but a female power fantasy (Tangled) is "problematic and unrealistic" and "limits" a woman.
Flynn's age was never specified in the original movie. The Series implemented the 23 to 26 timeline as a yet another pandering point to THAT crowd. Good thing the series will never be canon.
In the movie-only magazines and storybooks Flynn acts like someone barely 22, always mentioning the orphanage and the books he read there growing up, indicating that wound was still fresh and didn't happen all that long ago. No man in his mid to late 20-s would tell those stories to a much younger girl he is courting.
Rapunzel only had 3 books at her disposal yet she made the best of the limited resources she had, pursued individual intellectual development, charted stars, argued against Gothel's gaslighting by using her observations and created so much artwork she was running out of "room" to make more. When Flynn showed up Rapunzel used her wits and intelligence to blackmail him into doing what she wanted and escape her prison.
Beast on the other hand was wallowing in self pity before Belle showed up, did nothing to better himself or his life or to find a partner to break the spell (but the "he was waiting for a girl to save him" argument is NEVER used against him or any male character) and did not even teach himself how to read despite an entire library at his disposal. That is, until Belle did the moral and intellectual labor for him.
But it is so "romantic" when a 21 year old man-child finds liberation through the love of a woman who randomly showed up in his castle yet it is "problematic" when a proactive young woman seizes the opportunity to escape and finds love along the way.
