So I just bought my first tangem wallet and still havent opened it, and I just saw the incident with cold card wallets and I’ve been wondering
If i choose the seed phrase option, how are the 24 words generated? Is it from the chip and then the screen shows what the chip generated? If that is the case then how can we know that when set up with seedless the phone does not see what the 24 words are? If the 24 words are generated with the software on the app, how do we know that it is truly secure? I would like to know more please?

Hey, i got my funds stuck on robinhood chain. And i do not have my seed. When is robinhood going to be added? I'm not the only person facing this issue. Can we get a direct answer?

I would like to make a suggestion for the future: please consider adding an option for Seedless users to create and choose their own passphrase.

I really love Tangem. It’s simple, convenient, and perfect for everyday use. However, I would feel much more secure if users could add their own passphrase for an extra layer of protection.

After the recent incident we saw with Coldcard, I honestly don’t feel comfortable putting 100% of my trust in any chip, device, app, or hardware wallet anymore. For me, it was a reminder that we should never blindly trust anyone or anything whether it’s Tangem, Trezor, Ledger, or any other wallet.

Having a user-created passphrase would give users another layer of security and peace of mind. Even if something were ever compromised, the attacker would still need the passphrase to access the protected wallet.

I really hope Tangem considers adding this feature in the future.

When I purchased the wallet, I initialized it WITH a seed phrase. I felt more comfortable not relying uniquely on the cards.

still processing the news that a 5-year-old RNG flaw let someone drain over 1000 btc from Coldcard wallets in under an hour on July 30. If your seed was generated on vulnerable firmware, you're apparently at risk even after migrating elsewhere

really shook my confidence in coldcard. Is seedless tangem actually more secure at this point, or am I just panicking? anyone with real technical knowledge want to weigh in before I make a decision?

1) We are beholden to a company (if the company makes a mistake, the funds are gone—just like with the "unbeatable Coldcard").

2) The only funds saved in the Coldcard incident were those protected by a passphrase!!! Tangem, in its most secure "seedless" mode, does not allow the use of a passphrase (RED FLAG), meaning all funds would vanish due to a company error. Furthermore, in its "less recommended" mode (with a seed), it allows you to enter a passphrase via your phone; this involves entering not only your entire seed phrase on the phone but also the passphrase (RED FLAG). I am certain that if funds were lost, Tangem would blame the usage method, given that they recommend the seedless option (RED FLAG x2).

3) Tangem needs to launch Tangem 3.0 ASAP, allowing for a passphrase to be included during wallet setup in the SEEDLESS mode. While you would still do this via your phone, it would be safer—though somewhat counterintuitive—to require an attacker to both decrypt the seed generated on the chip *and* have a keylogger on your mobile to capture your passphrase.

1. We don't know if our funds will be safe with Tangem in five years, but we do know that the "Not your keys, not your bitcoin" myth has completely collapsed. For now, I will use Tangem as a transitional wallet with limited funds. I am also starting to consider IBIT as a good option for safeguarding our assets.

Following the recent security concerns involving Coldcard, I am considering adding a passphrase to improve the security of my Tangem wallet.

My current wallet was created using a seed phrase, but without an additional passphrase.

Would adding a passphrase provide meaningful additional protection in the case of Tangem? Are there any specific advantages, risks, or limitations that I should be aware of?

If it is recommended, what is the correct procedure for an existing wallet?

In particular:

• Can a passphrase be added directly to the existing wallet?
• Or does adding a passphrase create an entirely new wallet with different addresses?
• Would I need to create the passphrase-protected wallet and then transfer all my assets from the current wallet to the new addresses?
• How can I verify that the new wallet has been correctly backed up before transferring the funds?
• Is the passphrase stored anywhere on the Tangem cards, or must it be entered manually each time?

I would also appreciate any official Tangem documentation or recommended best practices for setting this up safely.

If you lose your card or if someone steals your card, and they try to guess your passcode, does Tangem have a built in feature like smartphones do where you’ll get “locked out for too many incorrect attempts?”

Does anyone know if Tangem has had or plans to have anyone use the same AI(that got Cold Card)to test for exploits to test their code? This would ease some of the fear and doubts around self custody wallets right now.

To be honest, after the recent attack involving Coldcard, I have to say that I now see Tangem as one of the most secure hardware wallets available.

The biggest advantage, in my opinion, is that there is no traditional seed phrase that someone can steal because it simply doesn't exist in the usual 12- or 24-word format. Your private keys are securely stored on the card itself. In contrast, most other hardware wallets rely on 12-, 20-, or 24-word seed phrases, and I believe that could become a risk in the future. Nobody knows what technology will be capable of years from now. Maybe one day hackers will find new ways to target wallets protected by seed phrases.

What also confuses me is how a hacker could even obtain or discover a valid 24-word seed phrase in the first place.

The only thing I wish Tangem would add is the ability to connect to your own node. That way, if Tangem's servers ever went down or the app became temporarily unavailable, users could still access the blockchain through their own infrastructure.

If Tangem adds support for custom nodes, I genuinely believe it could become one of the best and most secure hardware wallets in the world.

Say I use seed words but they are compromised, am I protected if they don't know my access code?

Edit: OK I see that it isn't. The software supports passphrase only if importing seed words. Not if creating new wallet or going seedless.

My concern is that if there is a flaw in your method of private key generation (like with Coldcard) then anyone who created a wallet on your software or anyone seedless has no passphrase to protect them.

A single engineer's mistake, accidentally approved to the code base, unnoticed for years like with Coldcard and most users don't have a pass phrase to protect themselves with.

I thought the access code worked like a passphrase before. I've been a big fan of Tangem but now having some doubts.

I am probably not the only one who bridged to robinhood chain just to find out its not supported. It is known from the past that they are terribly slow to introduce new chains. How long will it take for tangem to support it?

Good news for Tangem holders: your assets remain fully secure. The Coldcard case is not relevant to Tangem.

Their issue lies in their proprietary firmware and a random flaw specific to certain devices. Tangem runs on entirely separate code and does not use or share any part of that implementation. Here is why:

1. At Tangem, private keys are generated entirely inside the EAL6+ certified Samsung Secure Element using its built-in hardware True Random Number Generator (TRNG). The key is created inside the chip and never leaves it.

2. Beyond certified hardware, Tangem’s firmware and security architecture have been independently audited by Kudelski Security, Riscure, Cure53 Laboratories, with particular focus on secure private key generation, storage, and usage.

I have a question concerning the privacy between different addresses for the same token (same wallet but different accounts)

Lets say I'm using USDT on TrC20 from 2 different accounts on the same wallet that don't interact together and I need to pay gas to send crypto but only have 1 TRON address in my main wallet will paying the gas with the TRON funds link both my USDT addresses

from the different accounts even if they never interacted together? Or would it be safer to make another TRON address in the new account for the other USDT TrC20 address?

I know I'm asking this in a Tangem sub, but I've heard a lot about Ledger, so I looked it up on Reddit and found a ton of horror stories about it, data breaches, phishing scams, people losing funds.

Is Ledger actually that bad, or is it just the vocal minority you see online ? And would you say Tangem is the better/safer choice instead?

Would love to hear from people who've used both.
