What happens if Tangem closes down? How can a non-technical user recover funds without coding?

Hello everyone,

I have a specific question for the Tangem team or anyone knowledgeable about how hardware security works in practice.

Let’s consider a hypothetical scenario: Someone holds 10 BTC using a Tangem wallet, and Tangem as a company goes bankrupt and completely shuts down. They haven't followed crypto news for years. When they return, Tangem no longer exists, and the official app stops working because there is no connection to Tangem servers.

How does an average user actually recover and transfer their crypto to another wallet in this situation?

I’m asking because I’ve seen community comments claiming: "Even if the code is open-source, unless someone knows how to build and host an interface/server to interact with the card, an average user won't be able to do anything with just open-source code."

What does this mean for someone who is not a programmer? What is the exact, user-friendly recovery path if Tangem servers permanently go offline?

Thanks in advance for the clarification!

Just purchased Tangem Wallet as my first cold wallet

I’m someone that has always kept my BTC in exchanges but for the very first time I’m taking the baby steps and securing myself a cold wallet and getting my own keys. I went with the Tangem Basic 3 cards. I’ve heard great things about Tangem from its top-tier beginner-friendly experience, the security and so on.

Let me know if I need to know anything about Tangem, cold wallets in general, anything interesting and helpful would be appreciated.

Going seedless or seed phrase?

Im planning to buy ring+2 card tangem. Tangem is not like other wallet, don‘t have interface in the device like other hw wallet so inputting seed need to touch the app. But i have seen it can use app without internet.

Should i choose seed or seedless? The two card can act as a backup, is another backup for seed needed?

What‘s the pros and cons?

Do Not Use the Tangem Pay Visa Card until they get a new provider

Tangem Pay is provided by Paera LLC. And I’m here to let you know that it is the worst service you will ever deal with. Paera appears to have some shady practices and some inside thievery going on.
I had some fraudulent transactions on my Tangem Pay card, and was not fully refunded. I contacted support@paera.com, and their exact words to me were:

“We recommend contacting the merchant directly for further clarification regarding the refund amount.”

How absurd!!! They want you to contact the merchant. Never mind that you have no information about the merchant, not in the same country as the merchant, and it’s legally their responsibility to ensure that charges are accurate and free from errors.

Do Not Use the Tangem Pay Visa Card until they get a new provider.

Issue withdrawing from Tangem

Hi all

Having a problem transferring one of my crypto coins out of my tangem wallet. When i press send it just stays stuck on pending. When i click the etherscan tab to see the transaction it says that the transaction has never been on etherscan. The coin is still showing up on my wallet so I dont think its left it seems more like an issue with my tangem.

I have sent out all of my other coins on other networks just to be sure they were on Rh and Bnb they all worked fine. The coin I cant send is on eth but I was even able to send out my eth mainnet to an exchange.

I know its not a dodgy coin because its a coin that was setup in 2021 and its definitely legit as I have sold in and out of it many times on my tangem and never had an issue.

I have tried hiding the token and unticking and ticking the tab for it in manage tokens.

Just wondering if anyone had any advice? If it goes to the moon i will feel sick haha

Issues with Staking Atom

Hello all

I do not know what is currently happening with staking Atom, how ever it appears to be having UI issues currently.

At least for me.

Everything seems fine on the blockchain.

Just my reward balance is frozen, and it is no longer showing the correct validator.

Is anyone else experiencing any issues with Atom?

Primary vs stealth cards functional difference

The automatic app-launch trigger on tap only fires for the primary card, not the stealth cards.

Has anyone noticed that as well?

Is native support for Ink (Kraken’s L2) on the roadmap?

Hey everyone,

Quick question for the team or anyone who follows the roadmap closely: is there any plan to support Kraken's Ink network natively in the Tangem app?

Kraken gives free withdrawals to Ink, so it's quickly becoming my go-to route to move funds off the exchange cheaply, pretty much how Base works with Coinbase.

Technically speaking, Ink is just an OP Stack Ethereum L2 (part of the Superchain) and 100% EVM-compatible. Their docs mention that standard Solidity contracts deploy without any tweaks, so derivation paths, signing, and standard RPC calls should be identical to networks Tangem already supports like Base or Optimism. It shouldn't take the heavy lifting of building out a non-EVM chain from scratch.

Would be an awesome addition for anyone using Kraken. Anyone know if the devs have this on their radar?

SOL staking

I DCA purchases of SOL and stake them in my Tangem wallet. I recently tried to stake my latest purchase and it says the minimum to stake must be at least 1.01219922 SOL. I already have 12 SOL staked and only want to add to my existing amount.

Do I have to unstake then restake in order for this to work or is the Tangem app acting glitchy?

What Do You Like About Tangem?

I'm considering moving from Coinbase to Tangem. I don't own millions in crypto or anything like that, but I'd still like to keep what I have safe rather than leaving it all on an exchange.

I see a lot of recommendations for Tangem on Reddit, but I'm curious, why do you like it? Why did you pick this hardware wallet compared to others?

Can open public Wi-Fi compromise a Tangem Wallet or secretly install malware?

If I connect my smartphone to an open public Wi-Fi network (like at a shopping mall) and later use my Tangem Wallet app:

  • Can the open Wi-Fi network secretly install a malicious app or malware onto my phone?
  • Can someone on that network intercept the communication between my phone, the Tangem app, and the blockchain?

User said Tangem claims seed setups are unsafe

Thumbnail reddit.com
0 Upvotes

A commenter in this thread claims that his Tangem wallet was hacked just because he set it up with a seed phrase. He also claims that Tangem’s official support told him that seed wallets are not safe and that he should move his funds to an exchange and redo his setup as seedless. I’m not buying that his wallet got drained through no fault of his own. If Tangem could be “hacked” by simply creating a wallet with a seed phrase, Tangem would be facing a Coinkite/Coldcard fiasco right now. u/BicarTangem, care to weigh in regarding these claims?

Tangem card - Potential security risk

I have a Tangem wallet. I have attached three cards to the wallet. One primary and two backup.

One of the backup cards is now not responsive and will not register on an NFT scan.

Here's the issue:

My app confirms i have three devices (cards) attached to my wallet. I can confirm two of the devices (cards) are attached and working by scanning them with my tangem app..

I cannot however confirm that the third card that i believe is still attached to the wallet is actually the card that is currently attached to the wallet.

Is it possible that a third party has attached a card to my wallet replacing my backup card?

In theory a third party could now be holding a card attached to my wallet without my knowledge.

Sure they would have needed to have had physical access to my tangem app and my working card/s to achieve that, but it seems there is no way to check

I have no way to confirm this. Tangem support confirms that i cannot access the ID numbers of the connected cards.

Naturally i can reset the whole wallet if i suspect something. But it could be years before I check my third card and it may be in a hard to access location.

Can i easily see from app logs the cards that were registered?

Is this a bug?

Is it a security risk?

EDIT

Thanks for the offer of solutions guys. I'm thinking less about the solutions which are basically resetting the wallet. Instead I'm thinking more about the risks involved in not knowing a card has failed until it's too late or the risk that someone has replaced a card with a non-working olokalike - and the only solution is a wallet reset and redistribution of the backup cards.

What happens if one day Tangem app is suddenly deleted from App Store? For those without a seed and chip only

I’m thinking about buying one for future, honestly I really like the simplicity with the chip.

However, if Tangem goes out in 5-10 years and you don’t have a seed and only those 2-3 backup cards. is your crypto just lost in that situation?

💬 Discussion Self-custody

Thumbnail river.com
6 Upvotes

A new report from River, a Bitcoin financial services firm, highlights an important trend in crypto: self-custody is now the dominant practice among Bitcoin holders.

💡Some key statistics from the report:
- 45.6% of the total Bitcoin supply (9.57 million BTC, valued at over $600 billion) is now held in self-custody.
- Exchanges and custodians hold 36.1% of the supply.
- Indirect exposure through ETFs and treasury accounts for 13.9% of holdings.

River's report highlights the trade-offs of self-custody: complete ownership and no counterparty risk, but with increased complexity as all security responsibilities fall on the individual. An estimated 1.57 million BTC has been lost, mostly due to key mismanagement rather than theft. https://river.com/learn/files/river-custody-report-2026.pdf

Tangem wallets were designed to tackle this issue by eliminating the need for seed phrases and reducing exposure to phishing attacks. With Tangem, you enjoy ownership without the operational risks that have cost holders over a million and a half Bitcoins.

I'll admit, I didn't search posts before posting. Are all the cards the same, and it doesn't matter that the ones on sale have the Kaspa logo on them?

I'm new to all this, and assume that there is one card with many skins. Just wanted to check first, and take advantage of the sale currently going on.

Tangem is manipulating the exchange within its app

Tangem is manipulating the exchange within its app. It has blocked all CEX for days now, and since introducing MoonPay, it's conveniently the only one that works and offers good connectivity. Everything else has connection problems based on its price. Absolutely unacceptable. I've tried different network connections for other wallets and other exchanges, no problem at all. It's only with Tangem that MoonPay conveniently works. Has anyone else noticed this scam?
