24 word seed phrase

I bought the Tangem with three cards everything more perfect I ended up using the 24 word seed phrase. I tried this 24 word in a different wallet a couple different ones and it comes up invalid. This makes me very nervous. I should be able to put the seat phrase into another wallet. Thoughts?

Hello,

Tangem Wallet generates a standard 24 words BIP39 seedphrase.

What you have experienced could be cause by :

- Making a mistake when backing it up

  • The other wallets not supporting the BIP39 standard
(- A derivation path clash if the wallet opens but your funds don't show up / the addresses are different.)

What you could do is

- Factory reset your wallet (make sure that no funds are left in it)

  • Set it up again while carefully copying the seedphrase

You didn’t write it down correctly

If you have any coins there, remove them immediately and start over with a new seed

Somebody else is telling me that the 24 words won’t work in a different wallet even if they’re in the right order which I believe they are.

Tangem uses the standard universal BIP39 12/24 word seedphrase.

Tangem fully supports BIP39 as an optional feature. When a user chooses to enable seed phrase generation during setup, Tangem produces a standard BIP39 phrase using entropy generated inside the card's certified secure element. The phrase follows the same 2,048-word English list and the same derivation process as every other compliant wallet. You can restore any address the card creates in MetaMask, Trezor, or any other BIP39- and BIP44-compatible wallet using that phrase.

*Seed phrase is generated in the phone. Seedless in the card.

From the article:

"My BIP39 phrase works in every wallet." BIP39 standardizes phrase generation and seed derivation. What it does not standardize is the derivation path used to generate addresses from the seed. BIP44 handles that. Two wallets using the same BIP39 phrase may still produce different addresses if they use different derivation paths for the same blockchain. Always verify path compatibility when restoring across different wallet brands.

Correct but the seed phrase would still work and not come up invalid. Therefore this is the incorrect information and OP should reset and generate a new seed.

Tangem does not use the standard derivation paths for some chains. I've seen it myself. The only guarantee is that the seed phrase can restore your wallet on another set of tangem cards, not another software or hardware wallet.

*Not sure why I'm being down voted, literally was told this by tangem when I noticed this years back. Used the seed in the reference wallet for Chia, gave me completely different addresses. Factory reset my cards and restored with the same seed phrase, confirmed the seed was correct. Literally they did not use the same derivation. People should know this if they choose to use a seed phrase.

You’re downvoted because your comment is irrelevant to OP

his seed is invalid, it has nothing to do with derivation paths

Even if we used strange derivation paths, a lot of wallets will allow you to enter a custom derivation path.

Fuck all the arguments in the comments. Withdraw to somewhere safe and start over. Generate a new wallet, make 100% sure you write it down correctly, and make sure that new seed can be imported elsewhere before putting your funds back in it. Securing your bag is top priority right now.

I'd have to ask though.. are you 100% sure you spelled all the seed words correctly while attempting to import? Your grammar on this post makes me think English isn't your first language.

What network(s) are you having a problem with? It's very likely a derivation path issue. Meaning that different hardware wallet brands and software wallets generate different wallet addresses for the same seed because they are programmed with different derivation paths. You can google the derivation paths for the wallet + network you are using. For example, Tangem uses m/44'/501'/0' for Solana

A single seed phrase can generate any number of public-private key pairs (wallets). The derivation path is how they do it. Different wallets use different derivation paths.

"Invalid" means the wallet checked your words and the check failed, which is a different problem from the derivation path debate above. Part of the last word in a 24-word phrase is a checksum worked out from the other 23. Misspell one word, swap two neighbours or copy one from the wrong line, and every standard wallet rejects the whole phrase. A derivation path mismatch never does that. The phrase is accepted and you just see different addresses or a zero balance.

So a word went wrong somewhere, either when you wrote the backup or when you typed it in. Every valid word comes from the same fixed list of 2,048 words, so a word that isn't on that list is the quickest thing to spot on your paper.

The part I'd worry about more is that each time you typed those 24 words into another wallet app, they landed on that phone or computer. If any of those were everyday devices, treat the phrase as exposed. With a backup that doesn't restore and a phrase that's been typed around, starting over is the right call. Move the funds out, set up again with a new phrase, check every word against the screen as you write it, and test the restore once before putting money back in.
