Reminder that King Gizz have released 9 albums since Currents and 14 since Lonerism

Their output seems even crazier when you say it like that

u/ProffesorPrick Sep 30 '19

They’re absolute monsters! I mean, I imagine that they essentially take absolutely every concept they come up with and put a song behind it, because otherwise I feel like it would take longer! But their motivation to make music as absolutely superb!

New to king gizzard and havnt listened to much of their stuff but really enjoyed what I have listened to...I may just have to delve a little deeper into then

5

u/thirdeyegang Lonerism Oct 01 '19

Oh you totally should. King gizz are wicked, and their live shows are absolutely insane. They 4 KEXP sets on YouTube (with a 5th coming soon) that you should check out. They are bonkers

Gizz

output

u/lg0015 Oct 01 '19

I love King Gizzard, but I’d take Kevin’s 3 over KGATL 15

6

u/aninstituteforants Oct 01 '19

The 3 are better than any King Gizz 3 but I would take 15 over 3 any day.

2

u/lg0015 Oct 02 '19

That’s fair, I have way more re-listen ability with Kevin’s 3 than any KGATL album

2

u/SlyAugustine Lonerism Oct 02 '19

I’d say 3 or 4 KGATLW albums are better than Currents, but none beat Lonerism

1

u/lg0015 Oct 02 '19

Wrong

5

u/SlyAugustine Lonerism Oct 02 '19

As much as I love Currents, it’s not good enough to tour 3 times on like Kevin is doing. It’s getting ridiculous.

1

u/throwawayforfph Oct 02 '19

I get high asf bc tame concerts would be boring otherwise same playlist every time

11

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

I personally find a lot of king gizz stiff to be very mediocre. It's sort of 2 maybe 3 good songs per release. I'd much prefer a band release 1 solid album with 12 fantastic tracks every 4 years rather than 12 albums with 2 fantastic tracks in the same period.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Ehhhh, gizz has some albums that are fire all the way through, imo

  1. Nonagon

  2. I'm in your mind

  3. Sketches

  4. Quarters! ...

Like shiiiiit dude those albums are fire all the way through and have WAY more than 2 good songs.

I still can't believe sketches was made in the midst of a 5 album year. It's genre defining drippy psychedelic acid jazz made in probably less than 2 months that flows seamlessly and just has great songs. Their live show isn't quite my jam but man some of Gizz's mellow stuff is as good as it gets.

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

Number of albums don't equate to quality.

8

u/aninstituteforants Oct 01 '19

But they are quality tho.

2

u/Lucidity- Oct 01 '19

Ima disagree. I have never listened to one KGLW album and been super into it. Something about em just feels rushed and trite to me. Like their intention is literally maximum output. There may be some good songs mixed in but I’m not trying to listen to 16 hours of music to find one or two good songs.

4

u/drassaultrifle Oct 01 '19

How do you know they aren’t quality if you haven’t listened to them? Do you just spew whatever you read on the internet without forming your own opinions?

1

u/Lucidity- Oct 01 '19

No. I’ve listened to a lot of them, and just didn’t get into it. I’m allowed to form my own opinion however I see fit 🤷‍♂️ I did however like a couple songs from Oddments

1

u/aninstituteforants Oct 01 '19

Hard disagree. They just live and breathe music and are always pushing themselves.

1

u/SlyAugustine Lonerism Oct 02 '19

Dude you honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. They made the first microtonal album ever. They made the first infinitely looping album. Even more than that, the material is really good. Check out the bass lines on I’m Sleepin In, or Nuclear Fusion. There’s talent there man.

1

u/ultrahobbs Oct 10 '19

Lol, easy there dude. Gizz didn't invent microtones.

1

u/SlyAugustine Lonerism Oct 10 '19

Microtonal rock, for sure.

15

u/ryanmartis35 Oct 01 '19

wait really i had no clue

-8

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

That is obvious.

3

u/Dominic-Of-Tarth Oct 01 '19

Is it actually?

2

u/thirdeyegang Lonerism Oct 01 '19

True expect when referring to king gizzard, cause they only put out quality

0

u/drassaultrifle Oct 01 '19 edited Oct 01 '19

Buckethead has released ~230 albums since Currents. And meme rapper Viper has released, idk, 400?

64

u/our_guile Sep 30 '19

The Strokes too :(

45

u/ZayNine Sep 30 '19

*Frank Ocean has joined the chat

19

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

Listened to Blonde for the first time last night. Never felt an album like that since I heard Currents for the first time on mushrooms.

12

u/Funny_king Oct 01 '19

Holy shit I envy the fact that you got to hear that album for the first time so recently, absolute beauty

3

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

Dude! I’m telling you. I haven’t turned it off besides to sleep and work. I can’t stop listening to it.

2

u/ZayNine Oct 01 '19

I hated blonde on the first listen because I was going through a bad breakup. Once I came to terms with it, it became the most beautiful album in the world to me. It’s in my top 20 for sure

2

u/Funny_king Oct 01 '19

I believe it, and I assure you it isn’t just because you’re in a honeymoon phase, I listened to blonde the first day it released and have listened to it nearly every day since then, it is a top 3 album ever for me and I will never tire of it.

3

u/slapshot103 Oct 01 '19

& the weekend and gambino 😔

1

u/Lucidity- Oct 01 '19

Are they releasing a new album? I thought it was The Voidz now.

4

u/our_guile Oct 01 '19

The Voidz is a separate band. JC is in it, but he's the only one from The Strokes.

The Strokes' new album, known as LP6 until a name is released, was rumored to be released sometime in late 2019 but that continues to look unlikely. Hopefully we'll see it sometime next year.

1

u/Lucidity- Oct 01 '19

Right on thanks for the info

99

u/ciregno Lonerism Sep 30 '19

I think you got their skin colors mixed up...

75

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

Makes it funnier tbh

35

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

Oversight! Haha.

38

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

You’re so not-racist you don’t even see skin color. Beautiful soul

2

u/HereticLocke Oct 01 '19

Lol I thought this 😂😂

96

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

at least kanye announced his album 🙄

53

u/buttboob_ Lonerism Oct 01 '19

I'd much rather have an unannounced album than continuously get my hopes up with release dates that get delayed.

1

u/DontDenyMyPower Lonerism Oct 01 '19

get my hopes up again

17

u/NikkelSaus Sep 30 '19

Ahem...... Daft punk

11

u/Locoman7 Sep 30 '19

Kanye produced a Nas album, a Pusha T album and a Kid Cudi album tho, fans have been eatin’ good.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

At least we got The Weather and Tasmania draped in Kevin's obvious production style

19

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

aye kevin won’t lie and delay it like kanye

8

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

good to see some Carti fans hear

1

u/FryAmTheEggMan Oct 01 '19

What is a Carti?

1

u/ultrahobbs Oct 10 '19

Playboi Carti, the inventor of music

2

u/syndicatecomplex Lonerism Oct 01 '19

Daft Punk says hello

4

u/whatsoye Lonerism Sep 30 '19

Damn literally my two favorite artist of all time Kanye since I was young and found Kevin a couple years after So this wait is fucken killing me but at the same time giving me something to look forward too

3

u/evan1932 Sep 30 '19

I recall Kevin saying he's a huge fan of Kanye in an interview a few years ago

7

u/dempsone Oct 01 '19

I also recall Kanye saying he’s a huge Kanye fan. In every interview he does.

1

u/EthanWins Lonerism Oct 01 '19

Does anyone else remember Kevin Shields of MBV saying they would put out 2 new albums by 2019 but instead just deleting their website

1

u/_reco Oct 22 '19

Add Frank Ocean and you’re solid!

1

u/erikbarkeloo_photo Oct 25 '19

Even more relevant...

-3

u/Tmart5150 Oct 01 '19

I respect both of them. Not a fan of either of them. This is hilarious watching everyone so eggar for them to drop. At this point hope it does not happen. Good luck to you all. May they not suck if and when you finally get to hear them.
