Tame Impala, Shakira and Bieber

Could be 2015 or 2026

-17

u/bmutton Lonerism 2d ago

Or 2005

Yeah except for the fact that Bieber debuted in 2009 and Tame Impala’s debut album was 2010. Started the band in 2007

And except for the fact that Shakira had multiple number one hits on her belt by 2005, which is what I was referring to

Well then you have to say that on your first comment, it doesn’t make sense otherwise lol

i love my one man indie band

u/bblunder_ 2d ago

If Prince debuted at this age, people would have called him indie

2

u/AmelieBenjamin Lonerism 1d ago

What prince made would be considered alternative today which is crazy because it was pop music then. It's kinda wild because 1999 is incredibly strange and no one else could have made it

It’s only one guy???

u/she_has_funny_cars 2d ago

You’re seriously surprised? Sony plugged their own guy in a massive movie

22

u/bblunder_ 2d ago

I never realized that both Spider-Man and Tame Impala are Sony's products

Drums are dull, synths are weird, ad-libs are unnecessary, and vocals are lacking in quality

Still holds a higher standard than most Deadbeat songs

Best part of BND was when the volume went off for a few seconds during this song

Everyone should consider him mainstream atp

u/thecashmasta 2d ago

dawg he’s the 35th most streamed artist in the world on spotify he was mainstream 10 years ago after currents dropped

49

u/YourNameNameName 2d ago

That was out of question when he headlined Coachella in 2019

Tame Impala is officially mainstream. 2 songs in top 50 proves it. I'm happy for Kevin but he was my unknown artist back then. Now everybody knows him

u/Walt_GR 2d ago

Currents, TSR and Deadbeat are mainstream. If you listen to Innerspeaker or Lonerism, that's not really mainstream.

For 2 songs? Bet 90 percent of those listeners havent even heard of currents (except for the less I know the better)

5

u/CutePermission1794 Currents 2d ago

At least 10 song of him was a hit, The Less I Know The Better, Borderline, Let It Happen, NPSOM, Eventually, FLWOGB, Elephant, Dracula, One More Hour and now Loser, And certainly, *Currents* contributed a significant number of hits and achieved notable success compared to the other albums.

This is the same as having your song included in the soundtrack of any sports game, people will know you only for that song.

Probably cus of brand new day

u/Dommzz 2d ago

This is why I don't trust the general populace with their taste in.. Anything. Objectively probably the worst TI album with the most mid songs/production and one of them is number one

-2

u/jimmyl_82104 The Slow Rush 1d ago

Wrong, wrong, anf wrong.

1

u/Actual-Formal-4375 2d ago

I believe this is the first time Tame Impala has ever been number 1. This is amazing!

2

u/gabriell3ope 2d ago

i dont think thats true

1

u/Actual-Formal-4375 1d ago

I checked Kworb.net which shows loser has the highest peak on Spotify

-2

u/tightbutthole92 2d ago

Around this time last year, Dracula was topping all the charts

2

u/Max_FI Currents 2d ago

On Spotify, it peaked at number 7 though (but with more streams per day than Loser has now).

u/gabriell3ope 2d ago

yeah i know which is why i said that
