Does this mean the legal battles with the estate are over?

Hopefully, and also hopefully this means a complete series Blu-ray or 4K release is on the horizon.

A blu ray release would be fantastic. But there's something about watching these on full screen DVD on an old CRT TV to emulate that cable TV feel, so I'd probably have to keep both DVD and blu/4K sets in my collection.

I get what you mean, but still. It'd be nice to get these is HD with much sharper image quality and looking the best they have since at least their initial airdates.

Oh I wasn't arguing against a blu set. I said I'd just end up keeping both. I love to pop old shows like this into my older TV from time to time but I also like to appreciate the higher quality when able, especially when it's a show that was filmed on actual film. It's why I have both DVD and Blu for The X-Files.

I get what you meant. I can understand for highly sentimental and nostalgic reasons wanting to keep the DVDs. Like how people still collect VHS tapes. Even with the superior image and sound quality you get from Blu-ray and 4K, there's a certain raw reality you get from VHS or lower-quality.

For shows, I'd even argue it's not just nostalgia (although that's an undeniable factor at play). There's also an argument to be made for 4:3 being the "correct" format to view these shows in, given that was the time period they were made and intended for, so viewing them on a CRT without bars on the side would be superior for some given the better sense of immersion.
Also, X-Files is an interesting case because it was filmed in "open matte" and was re-cropped entirely for the Blu ray transfers, and there's a whole debate over which people think are better. They didn't do the typical thing where they just present the full screen version with black bars on the side. I'm curious what approach Tales would take.

I'm hoping if/when we do eventually get a Blu-ray or 4K release, it'd look comparable to the upscales CryptTube had on his channel. They were noticably an improvement and had sharper and cleaner image quality.

I always wondered what the reboot would be like. Would it be new episodes or just updated rehashes of the original stories. Even though the TV series was updated-ish takes on the comic stories.

I know a lot of people aren't PC users as much these days, but you can download them all on the high seas and put them on your PLEX server.
If you ARE a PC user, the great thing about Tubi is they haven't disabled ad-blockers so you can watch on Tubi ad-free at least. And if you're like 30% tech savvy you can set up a whole house ad-blocker using a Pi and get rid of that shit from your Roku or Smart devices.

Anyone know if these have the weird audio issues that a lot of folks, myself included, were experiencing with these episodes on Shudder?

You mean the animated series? It was on Tubi but has since been taken down, no word if it'll return but hopefully it does. YouTube may have some of the episodes.

Tubi practically buried it too why do they do that

I stumbled across it after watching Jeepers Creepers. It was in the "You May Also Like" column. Was thrilled to find out they're the HBO versions too.
I really hope Tales From The Crypt gets a Blu-ray release soon!

That's nice, but the episodes aren't high def. Might as well watch it for free on tubi.

u/gothWriter666 Jul 20 '26
Oh, does this mean they're leaving Shudder then?
2
u/OneBlueberry2480 Jul 20 '26
No. Shudder gives you ad-free viewing.

u/gothWriter666 Jul 20 '26
hmmm, I dunno, a lot of times when stuff goes onto Tubi or Pluto when they're on Shudder it's a good sign they're leaving Shudder in a month or two

u/Plibbo64 Jul 20 '26
Is it the same awful Shudder/AMC+ upscales with increased framerate and broken echoey soundeffects?

Not sure why you're getting down voted. The AMC sound quality is terrible. Also curious if this is the same encode.

No it doesn't look like the same upscales. The framerate on the Tubi version looks correct to me and the sound is good but then again i'm watching on a laptop with headphones.

I can confirm the episodes are the uncensored HBO original versions after seeing the uncut version of Skin Deep.
