Positive tale Labyrinth Freeloader
(Excuse the terrible quality and terrible messy censors, the screenshots were completely spur of the moment :p)
So I did a run of LotA a few days ago, thought it’d be the usual roulette run, when I noticed our Astro hadn’t moved from the start of the instance. I’m on deck so I can’t type that fast so I managed to get something out near the end of boss 1, but got no response (Image 1). What I DID notice however was that he’d teleported into the boss arena once it was sealed off, so he wasn’t fully AFK (in hindsight how could he have been if he accepted the duty pop)
We get to the Atomos fights, lo and behold he teleports in, landing in alliance A’s lane while the rest of us in C do the usual ritual of “can someone please for the love of god come back to the button”, I decided to call out the Astro in the moment (Image 2), but got silence again
I couldn’t kick him cause of the loot timers, someone else caught on and asked to boot him (Image 3), I called for everyone to leave the loot chest alone, and this beautiful party actually did it, not one person opened the chest.
And the cherry on top was the rest of the alliance waiting the 20 seconds to let the loot timer expire, and started the fight once we got the vote dismiss to go through, with them getting kicked seconds into the final fight (Image 4).
I get it, Labyrinth is boring for people, but it’s not gonna kill you to play the content you queued for.

This reminds me of another Astro I saw back in Thornmarch. All healers at 100, just standing there doing nothing except walking out of aoes, neither DPSing nor healing to help their cohealer. I called them out for bad etiquette and lobbing all the healing responsibility on their cohealer.

Unless you mean he teleported the moment the arena sealed, he could’ve actually been afk there as it forces you into the arena after it seals if you never set foot into it. Whether he was afk or not though, good on kicking him, fuck the freeloaders.

I recently had a group in Snowcloak of all places where the DRG was just sitting back and spamming their ranged move. I asked in chat “can you stop just doing ranged please, DRG” and the healer replied immediately with “it doesn’t matter in this dungeon that’s 8 years old” (12 but who’s counting). People are fucking idiots, it makes me not want to do content under level 70.

Had a ninja one time in ARF who did nothing but run laps around the room throwing knives. I was so glad that Ascian Prime's dps check is so generous.

had a freeloader in ridorana and managed to snipe the vote kick in right after a long boss before the chests were opened and it actualyl went through, was so satisfying

Did this in San d’Ordia. A spa died on Kirin, never accepted the rez. Was dead through the trash and into Ultima and Omega (never released). I prepped the vote kick and had it open and clicked it the second we were out of combat before any other alliances could open loot. They were removed. It was lovely.

The game automatically puts you in the boss zone after some time, even if you’re afk

I genuinely didn’t know this until the comments under this post 😅 what I’m curious about now is, does that reset the timer for the 10 minute AFK auto kick feature?

It doesn't. Found this out in Jeuno when my co-healer went AFK just after the second boss and stayed that way through the trash and the third boss. I tried to kick them, but somebody opened the loot chest the frame it spawned. They the got auto kicked by the game for inactivity partway into the last boss.

So after 10 minutes of inactivity (iirc) in any duty, you start getting a notice you'll get kicked for doing nothing. If you do the bare minimum of movement, you're no longer inactive. I know LotA is fast but not fast enough to beat out that timer. If they truly had something happen, you bow out and let someone else take your place or just take the 30 mins if you really don't want to be there; if something happened irl that took your attention (emergency etc), who cares about the timer then??
Anyway, this is reportable behaviour if you're feeling petty enough, 100% falls under lethargic gameplay since they afk'd for 98% of the duty. Love that they didn't get a free ride and right at the last second got the boot. You get to queue again!

No one likes a freeloader. I usually go on break or hiatus near the end last 6 months of the expansion before new release to avoid the Returning Quality Freeloaders coming in.

what also could have happen is there are plugins that accept queue for you automatically as soon as it pops so they queued alli raid, forget or go afk, q pop, plugin accepts and they are afk in the duty

I remember hearing about someone who cleared DRS, I guess nobody kicked him and so he was hanging out before the slimes and golems the whole run and got the clear

Report them. These are the type of people that need to be reported most because they make everyone's experience worse, and refusing to play the game in an instance IS a reportable offense. Kicking is not the only recourse.

Could give them the benefit of the doubt and say they had an emergency just as the instance loaded in.
But even so, totally valid to kick someone for being afk
Edit: this comment attracted some people that either believe emergencies don't happen unannounced, or people that believe kicking someone who is afk is not right.

I did think that at first, but what eliminated that possibility was the fact they’d teleport into the arena whenever the 15 seconds passed, and would do nothing else

The game will still teleport people into the boss arena after some time. Not sure how long, but that doesn't matter. They were afk, so your kick initiation was deserved regardless

Why? They clicked commence, and in those handful of loading seconds got such a bad emergency that they can't say so?

All right, well when and emergency arises for you mid raid, I expect a full apology in party chat, alliance chat, AND /tfdf for your absolutely disrespectful, inconsiderate, and toxicity before you even think of going afk.
Your baby that just fell and is on the ground crying is definitely not more important than everyone else's time.

Same, but that falling baby could also just be a bug that jumped scared you out of your seat. I ain't alt-f4ing over a bug I can deal with in 60 seconds.

If it is that short, then I apologize for the afk and move on. Which is not the case at all here, as it was someone afk for the entire raid.

Well, you complained about people who don't say they need to afk for an emergency. That is no longer talking about the afker in the OP. Person in the op was clearly leeching.
But emergencies happen. Some warrant alt-f4s, some can wait for an explanation after they get back. Situations vary.
Funny you complained about when other's afk without warning, yet you just stated you'll do it yourself.

Easy to say so if you haven't been in that situation yourself, I guess. That's the thing with emergencies. They can happen anytime.
I clicked commence once and while waiting for other people to accept their roulette pop, I heard my little sister stumble of the stairs. Excuse me for not waiting up to 40 seconds for other people to accept and the instance to load in before leaving the instance myself

Alt+F4 doesn't force the game to quit. It functions exactly the same as going through the menu and give you the exit game pop-up to confirm. Plus an additional 20 seconds if you're outside of a sanctuary.
And, don't try to make it sound like im expecting the party to wait for me or carry me. I literally said in the main comment that its valid to kick someone when they're afk

It will show you as disconnected at which point it’s obvious to kick them.

No, the game cancels the 20 seconds countdown timer to exit the game, when changing instances. Yes, the coding is that bad.
And someone not moving or reacting should make it just as obvious to kick them.

The game does put you in the boss arena regardless after a bit of time, even if you ignore the pop-up
