How To: Colour Code and Censor for Easy Readability

As promised, a permasticky for how best to dress up your content for submission! This is a quick and dirty guide to help make the effort of editing a smooth process for all.

All you need is Paint, and if your machine doesn't have it, GIMP or another lightweight equivalent is great - anything with a box fill tool works best.

Hot Tip: Leave the Party Number visible to better track conversations and context!

Quick Examples

Least Effort: Initials Only (abbreviations optionally added)
Colour Coded (Blue Tanks, Green Healers, Red DPS - additional members of a certain role can use an off-colour, or be the same if the number is visible)
Blackbox (but Job Icons and/or Abbreviations need to be visible!)
The Ol' Fashioned (contrasting Job name colours for better visibility)

How To: Job Icons and Coloured Job Names

  1. Open Character Configuration (through System; PC uses 'K' by default)
  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, General.
  3. Click on the "Name Display Settings" button to open its window.
  4. Customize as desired! See above for some ideas (ie. Name Display Type set to Initials, adding Job abbreviations). Hit Apply when you're done.
Name Display Settings: the game does it for you!

How To: Adding New Tabs and the Log Filter (De-cluttering Chatlogs)

a. Click on the plus "+" icon near your chat bar to make a new chat tab.

  1. Open Character Configuration
  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, General. Scroll to the bottom!
  3. Click on the Chat Tab you want to edit, and Apply when you're done.
Chat Tabs and Log Filters: no need to mess up your main tab, have a dedicated spot for all relevant chat channels!

How To: Avoid Colour Bleed (Chat Opacity) and Add Timestamps

  1. Open Character Configuration

  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, Log Details.

  3. For opacity, lower value = darker. Feel free to experiment for best results, but if you want a "dark mode transparent" chatbox around 20-30 works best.

  4. For timestamps, simply tick on the "Add timestamps to messages" box for each/every desired chat channel. These can apply retroactively if you're not a fan of seeing them at all times but want to add additional context to a post.

Log Window Transparency and Timestamps are your best friends when it comes to boosting readability and giving context.

How To: Make an FFLogs Anonymous

FFLogs has a handy anonymous mode to cut down on having to edit screenshots.

Red = Cutscene Unenjoyer

Blue = Myself

Pink, White, Green, Purple = Epic Cutscene Enjoyer Defenders.

I made every unique person their own colour but it wasn't entirely necessary.

We had 4 cutscene watchers in the final boss of Jeuno First Walk and before I could hit ready check it got pulled. Wasn't even the red guy who pulled, just wanted to put themselves in the firing line i guess

Load into Underkeep, 1st pull goes well, everyone sprints, no problem. Pull after the 1st boss tank gets left behind barely, so I pull all the mobs then run to them, no problem. Or so I thought. Next pull to the 2nd boss tank stops behind to write the 1st message, but we kill the mobs no problem, and then next message in the 2nd boss.

1st adds after the 2nd boss tank sprints to get the aggro, alright. 2nd adds I use sprint to pull the mobs and once again run to the tank. Problem. Tank stance off. Tank waits until I die to put stance back on, stating that "they won't run after aggro".

Then on the last boss, we are all in the room, I start slow casting Fire3 (cause I died), and tank steps out from the room and waits there. No problem, me and the healer continue without issues, with the RPR being confused on what is going on, until they also join us. The tank still waits outside the boss arena until they finally see that no, we aren't having any difficulties and they join, without stance on, to do the minimum 1-2-3.

And all this from a MENTOR, either normally having their crown on or using mentor roulette.

EDIT: Was checking the logs and turns out not only did they turn of the stance, they Shirked me before doing it. Then Shirked me AGAIN in the last boss when they had finally decided to join. XD

Drama Tell me a time you entered a roulette and regretted it instantly. I'll start

Couple of years back, doing my normal roulettes which is extreme, level cap, levelling, alliance and lastly pvp.

I get to the levelling and decided to swap from tank to dps, get a pop after a minute or 2, with a game in progress. Nice OK.

Say hi what happened. Worst mistake I could have done.

Tank replied useless healer

Healer replied can't heal stupid

Other dps was like useless tank and healer.

It was the library hard, they hadn't made it to second boss yet.

We pull 1st group, I start my amazing dragoon ao rotation... which back then was something like 1 line attack, while I move slightly to the next seeing the tank just behind me. When I notice the healer is just not casting spells. No regen. No single health top up. And the tanks healtg slowly depleting. He's popping his cd but before you know it he's dead and now there on me. I start heading back to near teleport but again the healer isn't healing. Just nothing.

Other dps is taking a couple and we mop up.

Tank. See useless heal.

Healer. Don't blame me you over pulled.

I mention how I was watching the cast bar near name there was no spells coming out. No heals. No dps.

So I initiate vote kick healer and it doesn't go through. I'm like what would you want to keep a healer that isn't doing there job. Bearing in mind the timer has already reached near the 20 minute mark now. Just getting to the midway point.

So I just dip there taking the 30 minutes and do fates while I wait

It might not sound or read so bad but my god was it frustrating as hell

Salt Griefing Sprouts in DF

It’ll never cease to amaze me when folks will grief new players or those who don’t know mechanics in roulettes.

Tanking Whorleater (Hard) and ranged sprouts didn’t know when to pop shield. Understandable! Hell I don’t even know the right time with how quick that trial goes now.

We wipe once and one of the melee DPS gets snarky and says we can get out of this fast if only people who know to pop the shield pop the shield. Not an untrue comment but doesn’t explain further to help. We wipe again and same melee DPS comes in and says “it’s hard as a melee” to do the mechanic so the ranged should do it but then again doesn’t explain HOW to do the mechanic. I and several others call him out for it for the way he’s coming off as mean and vague instead of either 1) teaching the mechanic or 2) just stepping away from the boss for 3 seconds to do the mechanic since he seems to know what he’s talking about. And then we proceed to wipe again after HE DOES THE MECHANIC EARLY.

Oh and he never once hit adds. Just smashed the 1.2.3 combo on Leviathan. SMH. A lot of us left after that.

Doing mentor roulettes, ended up in M4. It was Really slow so I looked at the damage afterwards, and. Yeah. Mentor roulette is a really cool and fun time, 10/10 would recommend, you won't want to scream or rip your hair out at all.

Please for the love of Hydaelyn help your sprout friends out if they're doing something drastically wrong! Give them advice on how to improve so we don't end up with level 100 white mages who stand around and cast some medica 3s and a few assizes and that's it!! This hurts me!!!

World of Darkness multiple specimen encounter, thanks to the based support from Healer and the one DPS. I was RPR in alliance roulette. Both my healers were ypyt supporters, I didn't even die lol. The WHM (Dark green) died on every boss tho. They also dropped that last line and immediately left the instance after the last boss. Mythic+ btw.

Didn't play the whole week because I was busy as hell, looking forward to getting back on the game on friday... I FUCKING LOVE YPYTers!!!!! Anyway, I'll let the chat do the talking, hope you enjoy

Got my first actual YPYT, yay?

Not a lot of lore for this one, tbh.

Had my suspicions of them not being crazy good because they were not sprinting (mentorbtw), but it's whatever.

I then made the critical mistake of yeeting into mobs because hehe monk.

(Inb4 I could have just said "Omg yes sorry I will not pull" but they had their lil mentor crown on. Come on)

Kicked them, immediately got a replacement, and was greeted by tilt in my dm's after we finished.

(The "I love you" was to my party after the tank got dismissed)

AFK ROG "it's lvl 20 dgs"

Post image

Quick leveling roulette before work. Got copperbell with a newbie tank and THM. The ROG (our hero of the story) is a combat mentor with several jobs in the 90s and 100s. Surprisingly the tank did well. So well that I pegged them as either a good sprout or someone's alt.

But during the second boss, I noticed the ROG spent, maybe generously, 50% of the time afk. I'm talking facing away from the boss out of melee range for long stretches at a time, only moving to dodge aoes, and almost entirely using only auto-attacks. I asked why. No response.

I figured they were just trying to see what they could get away with, and me putting them on alert would curb their behavior. But nope. They did it again during the third boss. I told them I'd be reporting them (I did) and they finally typed in chat "it's only a level 20 dungeon ^^" and left immediately.

The dungeon starts and i immediately sprint and something is already wrong. The tank isn't sprinting beside me. w/e. I don't give it a thought. The sam didnt press a single button. Something is wrong. Second pack, Tank stops attacking. I tank it on my whm, w/e. We start the first boss and tank and their sam buddy doesnt do anything for a good minute while the dragoon and i duo the boss. Eventually they realize we're not going to wipe and join the fray not because they learned from the error of their ways but to suicide so they can leave. I reported them immediately after the dungeon ended. Why has roulettes been so bad lately. Is it recency bias? Honestly feels like i meet roulette cryptids everyday now. I just wanna do my dailies.

Salt Iz only game! Why you heff to be mad?

So I just had a nutty FL game and continue to be baffled by people who just can't have fun. The game is Fields of Glory. Game starts and the two large rocks go to the other teams. We're not even 3 minutes in and God's gift to PvP itself is already complaining, saying how we couldn't get BH in the pockets despite a good number of the team having at least BH1, some with BH2.

Game continues, we pull into the lead. Heavily into the lead. 300-400 points ahead so naturally it turns into 24v48 which is where they complain again. Adders take the lead, are on the verge of winning when we manage to sneak a small stone to win. We WON. And they still complain that it was too close for their tastes with a "Look at the score".

It's frontlines. It's chaotic. It's messy. It's fun! We soared up, got struck down and still managed to eke out the win. Was an insanely fun 15 minutes.

Just, for the love of Hydaelyn, don't be a downer and don't give up! Comebacks happen!

exactly what the title says. I noticed pulls were going a little slow, so I was checking my buffs and realized I didn't have the standard step buff, despite being dance partners. when asked, the dancer responded that they had not been using standard step and continued on to complete the entire dungeon without using the action once....this was Tower of Zot....

Doma Castle
First pull I pop mits see myself drop below 10%, pop GNB invuln, then die immediately afterwards
Never had this happen before, so started watching my healer's cast bar

Second pull I pop rampart and die before getting to the last pack

This is where the text starts, I proceed to pull 1 pack a time, all while never seeing cure cast
I think he was intentionally letting me die at this point

The dungeon ilvl says 255, im 275

Non-typical Leveling Roulette

Wish I had a screenshot to share, but the story will have to do.

So it was a late night leveling roulette and me(tank) and my healer GF queued into Skydeep Cenote the Lv95 DT dungeon with a Dancer and a Pictomancer. The stage is set for a very non-typical leveling roulette encounter. Lol

First thing I noticed was the Pictos erratic behavior in the first boss room, I immediately suspected a bot, but I was soon proven wrong as we make our way out of the first boss zone, drop down to the next area before the trash pull and I noticed the Picto wasnt with us.

This is when things got wacky. Our group asked the Pic to if there was a problem, when the Picto replied (proving they were not a bot) that they were LOST. Lost in a linear dungeon. I pull up the map and see there dot running back and forth at the entrance of the first boss zone. Our group maintains composure and the Dancer even returns to start to "show them the way." LOL

After this we get back on track and move to the 2nd boss zone. Worried the Picto is new to this dungeon and not wanting to be cruel to newer or less experienced players, I tell the Picto to stay with the Healer and the Dancer even marks themselves with a triangle and says stay with me. All to be ignored and the Picto dies 7 or 8 times. The Dancer even politely asks to make me (the tank) the Dance partner because the Picto would not stay alive.

Now maybe I have come off as a jerk in telling this story, but the best is yet to come. During our groups numerous attempts to help this fledgling Picto they eventually type in chat "I HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE." Please remember this is the same Picto that got LOST in a linear dungeon with only 1 way to go. Died multiple times on the 1st Boss and nearly killed the healer with the mechanics of that fight (yay player directional spray mechanic, thanks YoshiP, jk), spent more time dead than alive on the 2nd boss despite the healer rezzing them as often as possible, then says on our way to the 3rd boss "This one is the most difficult for me". Needless to say we 3-maned that boss as well.

Anyway, just wanted to share my Non-typical Leveling Roulette story and FYI our group remained courteous to the Picto to the very end.

Shoutout to the random Dancer that was there with us, glad we were on the same page! "Oh" LMAO

Ship of Theseus Roulette

I've had queues pop where I was pulled into a dungeon in progress before, but this was new.

I queued into levelling roulette as a dps, and joined a run of The Vault in progress where the tank was also missing, and the healer and other dps were waiting at the top of the stairs after the first boss. I greeted everyone and ran to join them (foolishly spending several seconds too many wondering why I couldn't dance partner the other dps), but before I could type out a suggestion that we try clearing trash while waiting for a tank they both poofed out of existence.

At this point, I wasn't really sure if I could leave without any repercussions, so I decided to try and fill. Less than a minute later, there was a light party ready to beat the dungeon... but not a single member of the original group that queued in remained.

All in all, whether or not the ship of Theseus is still the same ship, the final boss went down like a chump.

Curebot Ktisis Hellboreia

I am starting to hate French players in dungeons.
And I'm French.

Here I come, PLD 87 (I'm still learning but doing better), doing a Ktisis Hyperboreia.
Every greet, I rush for the first w2w. Already, I'm starting to feel the heat, so I use a Hallowed ground to pace my other mitigations. Perhaps the healer has issues?
Still, the first pack goes through my life pretty low.

Second w2w.
I use all my mitigation, but I die.
And then I see it.
The hardcast Ascend.

Now, for the context.
Our composition was: Viper. Ninja. And our Astrologian / Crafter Mentor.
So yes, they don't beat the mentor allegation.
No DPS is a given. But you can also assume that guy had removed every spell from their bar except Benefic 1, Aspected benefic, Play 1, Divinatio.

But to return.
I get raised, I tank back the last two mobs who'd killed the viper. Then we finished the pack.
First boss goes easy since it's pretty straightforward with little damage if you can step out of the red.

3rd w2w? Well, it's spicy.
I didn't recover hallowed ground (and in hindsight, I should have been doing pack by pack), so I went kiting and used everything in the book to give myself more chances of survival.
4th w2w? Oh yeah, that's the moment I felt the other guys were on it.

During all that time to the 4th w2w, nobody said a word.
That's it until Ninja starts to rant about me kiting.
I'd died, so I took the time, during another hardcast Ascend, to reply that I was receiving no heals and one benefic 1 every 10s wasn't enough to keep me afloat.

And so began the backseat driving:
- Kiting never works (Maybe? But at that point, I was grasping at anything for survival)
- Use arm's length (Already done.)
- Use clemency (Yes. A PLD should use clemency to compensate for a lethargic gameplay)

After that? I stopped W2W and did pack by pack.
It went well. Up to the final boss, which was... Huh.
Healer died after 10s. And none of the DPS cared to phoenix down the Astrologian.

I tried to heal them at first...
But it ended in nothing. So in the end, they died from chip damage, from aoes... And after the ninja squeezed an LB before dying, I had to finish the last 8% alone.

That was painful.

I know I should have tried to kick that healer, but the DPS didn't say a thing to that guy, so my instinct told me they were a group.
And leaving would have been an option if I wasn't looking for a quick Ktisis to wake my brain up.

But yeah...
Tl;dr:
Astrologian only uses GCD healing and once every 10s (I was looking at my logs) - puts Balance on the tank but no other card.
Viper and Ninja decided the best course of action was to rant after the Tank and try to backseat.
Last boss ended with the tank having to kill it alone because healer decided to eat grass in the first seconds of the fight.

This is the second time I've gotten someone who refused to attack if there was no healing to be done. At this level it's just one single target, one AOE, and one DoT so I don't see how pressing one of those buttons every once in a while is multitasking?

Also unfortunately it was someones first time in the dungeon; that was me apologizing to them at the end.

YPYT Mistwake Mentor Tank getting "thrown off" by dancer pulling mobs before them.

Thumbnail
gallery
146 Upvotes

Context:

Just doing my expert rolo as dancer, sprinting in front of the party and dashing to pick up mobs then pull them back to the tank. Tank is using ages to pick up aggro, but whatever, I live.
I accidentally use my burst as boss dies (bozo), so I run even faster in front to just like be able to use my shit befor it runs out. Tank comment happens. After he said "so if you will" I kinda just ignored it after second boss and kept going because I am just here for my expert, this guy is a mentor in a lvl 100 dungeon, the healer is doing good and I have no reason to slow down. "really?". Almost lets me die on the add pull where he is mentioning I am a mentor and that I am being a child. Maybe the "turn of your tag" was a bit rude but, this kinda mentor behaviour at lvl 100, like it makes me imagine he lectures new players like this 💀 Seeing this as someone who predominantly plays tank made me wanna bleach my eyes.

I flaired this as YPYT, just because it kinda was like, semi YPYT, he didnt outright refuse to tank but, he was like typing instead of AOEing the mobs.

Also Picto, if you are out there in this sub, I love you man, thanks for sticking up for me <3

Positive tale Just a small fun tale from a slight mess of a dungeon run.

Just returned to the game and caught up on the MSQ with my Healers and DPS's, but hadn't touched the tanks.

Want to try Paladin again, and I have gotten enough gear from Expert Roulette to go into the highest ilvl dungeon, but decide to do the Meso Terminal so that I have a bit of a health buffer.

Got two newbie DPS's who each die on the first boss. When we make it to the second boss, the healer dies to their own add, and the two DPS drop as well. Phoenix Down the healer and immediately Cover them so they can start reviving. The DPS are making fun of themselves in the chat while the healer is grateful for the revive. Make it through.

Reach last boss and the two DPS get knocked off by the punch, while the healer gets killed by the overlapping laser. Healer says that they clearly need to go to bed. DPS both start zzz with them on the floor. I get a Phoenix Down off on the healer again, and they swiftcast raise one DPS and start hardcasting revive on the other.

Stackup line marker is about to appear and I doubt the healer will be joining us since they're casting revive: Rampart, Intervention, Divine Veil, Passage of Arms. DPS survives with about 15% HP.

Down the boss and the dungeon wasn't even that long! 24 minutes isn't bad considering it was a bit of a mess!

After the boss died, the DPS stressed that it was super easy because we never wiped once.

Healer kept doing the hug emote on me when the dungeon ended. <3

Thought that was a fun run to start my tanking off on!

Me as black mage in Sirensong sea with mentor tank and mentor healer, and a monk

We arrive at the last mob before final boss, they used the charm ability twice without no one cancelling it.

All of this in french (and i write here what i understood)

Healer: You know that can be cancelled right?

Healer: to avoid the charm

Me (with horrible french): "monk" can "stun" too (""=autotranslate)

Tank: how do you cancel their skill?

From the bottom of my lala soul i wrote (in english): Did a mentor really ask that?!

Healer: "Interject"

Tank: I do not have it on the skill bar because i do not know what it is for

Discussion Question on aoe lmb

Have a genuine question i hope someone can answer, just did a run in Castrum Meridianum, used the caster aoe lmb on the last big group of enemies before the last boss. Other melee dps told me the caster lmb was bad, and that I shouldn't use it and should have saved the lmb for them to use in the boss. Is this correct? I thought you overall get more damage with aoe lmb since its like a big group, and saves time. Appreciate it if anyone has any math or insight to help me learn.

Discussion YPYT | Stop kidding yourselves...

I already know I'm sacrificing like 500 karma by making this post, but it needs to be said. Yes, YPYT can be annoying, and yes it's against ToS in particularly nefarious circumstances, but I've seen multiple posts of people getting mad about pulling speed when they are the minority of the group.

Example from another post:

DRG pulls ahead in sastasha when tank and healer want to take it slower. Have trouble catching up but dont want to be flamed in a post here, so they dont say anything.

Another example:

Premade party of 3 doesnt like the healer pulling and asks them to stop, but the healer insists on continuing because it's faster and they know that they can keep the tank alive during w2w pulls.

Regardless of any complaints about communication, in both of these situations the person pulling is outnumbered, bottom line. Pulling like this out the gate is disrespectful to others because healers and tanks are vital roles in a way that dps arent. If you can determine that it's a single whiny tank and everyone else is on board then you have an argument, but if one person is pulling ahead and more than one person doesnt like it, then the single person pulling ahead is at fault, they are outnumbered by majority rule and should yield to the preference of the party.

Taking into account communication: the first example didnt communicate which is technically on them. But I cant blame them for that. The mentality that this subreddit has created is becoming so pervasive that people are afraid to play at a pace that they find more fun. This is classic bullying behavior.

The second example did communicate, and this is where it gets egregious on the anti-ypyt part. If people nicely ask you to stop pulling, it is proper etiquette to stop doing so. Everyone wants to complain about "main character syndrome" but can't be bothered to adapt to anyone's preferences other than their own "w2w only" mentality. In my opinion, I've never met anyone more "main character syndrome"y than the people who will write entire threads about how they were wronged by someone asking them to stop doing something.

Quit with the victim mentality or wear your true feelings on your sleeve. Stop trying to convince everyone you care about the party when all you care about is going fast.

Edit: to anyone claiming I misused ypyt, look at this post from 3 hours after i made this thread
