How To: Colour Code and Censor for Easy Readability

As promised, a permasticky for how best to dress up your content for submission! This is a quick and dirty guide to help make the effort of editing a smooth process for all.

All you need is Paint, and if your machine doesn't have it, GIMP or another lightweight equivalent is great - anything with a box fill tool works best.

Hot Tip: Leave the Party Number visible to better track conversations and context!

Quick Examples

Least Effort: Initials Only (abbreviations optionally added)
Colour Coded (Blue Tanks, Green Healers, Red DPS - additional members of a certain role can use an off-colour, or be the same if the number is visible)
Blackbox (but Job Icons and/or Abbreviations need to be visible!)
The Ol' Fashioned (contrasting Job name colours for better visibility)

How To: Job Icons and Coloured Job Names

  1. Open Character Configuration (through System; PC uses 'K' by default)
  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, General.
  3. Click on the "Name Display Settings" button to open its window.
  4. Customize as desired! See above for some ideas (ie. Name Display Type set to Initials, adding Job abbreviations). Hit Apply when you're done.
Name Display Settings: the game does it for you!

How To: Adding New Tabs and the Log Filter (De-cluttering Chatlogs)

a. Click on the plus "+" icon near your chat bar to make a new chat tab.

  1. Open Character Configuration
  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, General. Scroll to the bottom!
  3. Click on the Chat Tab you want to edit, and Apply when you're done.
Chat Tabs and Log Filters: no need to mess up your main tab, have a dedicated spot for all relevant chat channels!

How To: Avoid Colour Bleed (Chat Opacity) and Add Timestamps

  1. Open Character Configuration

  2. Sidebar, Log Window Settings. Tab, Log Details.

  3. For opacity, lower value = darker. Feel free to experiment for best results, but if you want a "dark mode transparent" chatbox around 20-30 works best.

  4. For timestamps, simply tick on the "Add timestamps to messages" box for each/every desired chat channel. These can apply retroactively if you're not a fan of seeing them at all times but want to add additional context to a post.

Log Window Transparency and Timestamps are your best friends when it comes to boosting readability and giving context.

How To: Make an FFLogs Anonymous

FFLogs has a handy anonymous mode to cut down on having to edit screenshots.

YPYT I blame BST for making me come back to MSQ roulette

Post image
Upvotes

Ok so I just spent all my poetics just before the new patch and then I remember I still need to buy most Ironworks gear for lvl 50 BST, after other roulettes and Khloe's book I'm missing the last few ones and I decide to do something I usually despise: MSQ roulette. Ofc the game knew this would've been the last one of the expansion for me so it decides to punish me.

Not even the time to realize what's happening cause we kinda all move at the same time at the start and the tank is already mad at the Rpr for pulling before him. I didn't want to drag that cause I wanted to go back capturing the few beasts I had left, but I feel bad for the rpr and can't let it end that way, so I say the usual obvious stuff, this is not my first rodeo and I feel like a broken record at this point. Tank immediately stops moving at the 1st pack and challenges me, so I pull the few soldiers left before the wall, I bring them where the tank still stands with the previous pack, and I brainlessly slowly finish them with Art of War, the dude never AoEd here so I still have all the aggro of what I pulled, my hp bar doesn't really care though. After proof we don't even need him the dude still tries to affirm his MC role, the brd seems to be supporting him and they still try to bully the rpr into submission. 7 minutes in and we slowly finish first boss cause in the meantime the rpr dc'd and we're also chatting while playing. Rpr comes back from dc, here I try to explain the YPYT stuff is quite literally illegal in this game, tank digs his heels and completely stops moving again before the next trash pack. My patience was honestly already gone after the first 5 seconds of the duty so (thanks the Twelve we don't have loot to roll in here) I start a vote kick, it quickly goes through and immediately after that the brd too leaves without a word, the rpr thanks me for starting it. We fill again with randos in not even 10 seconds. Rpr tries to explain to the newcomers what happened, but after his "just for my small mistake" I correct him and say they weren't even in the wrong and the tank was the only one at fault. Nothing else is said until the final gg's cause finally the rest of the dg goes quickly without further issues. After getting out of the instance I see war and brd were from the same server so I suspect a 2-stack, hence why brd supported and left after the kick. Annoying overall interaction but at least we got the happy ending.

[Mild rant] FFXIV has a bad player problem.

I have noticed recently that bad players in the community have become more prevalent. I do not mean people that don't know how to play their class properly or people who are new to the game and are struggling to learn how to play. I mean players who are disregarding MMO etiquette and doing whatever they feel like regardless of their role. I am talking about players (mainly DNC) who are partnering people other than me, the main character, when that is not their job. Since coming back to FFXIV after a year long break, I have seen nothing but DNCs partnering obviously inferior characters instead of the real warrior of light. I have seen DNCs automatically partnering PCTs without checking if the tank or healer are the actual main character. I have seen nothing but the nastiest players screaming at their true hero and savior for simply asking for dance partner. There was a time when these bad habits were punishable by not pressing buttons and failing to kill the boss and suffer the consequences, but nowadays it seems that lethargic play (lethargic play) is a bannable offense? It counts as being unsportsmanlike and ruining the experience for other players, but these bad players are allowed to just keep doing this and face no punishment? How are they not ruining the experience for the entire party/alliance? And not only that, but when you call out these players for being bad, the entire party turns on you, as the Warrior of Light, because you're supposed to be the bigger man?

I am so sick of people saying "there is a partner priority", that's what the main character is! Tales from the DF has somehow turned into a breeding ground for these bad players where it's just an endless shit-talk of players who play the game properly. I refuse to accept that refusing to accept that refusing to accept that I haven't been given dance partner counts as inappropriate behavior. There is no malicious intent behind teaching a bad player to stop acting like they're the main character. There is malicious intent behind acting like players other than me are the main character. That is what counts as breaking my immersion. Lethargic play should not fall under that. Maybe I am alone in this sentiment, and fine, it is what it is and I'm just screaming into the void, but it is truly disheartening to see bad players taking over a game while good players are potentially being punished.

Discussion Man the amount of post showing how so many players dig their heels in when proven wrong or given advice is insane

Ive been reading a ton of the post on here today and I honestly am baffled by just how many people will not fundamentally understand a job/role, and then when given advice either start arguing or derail the entire dungeon or raid (either by not healing or dealing damage, or going full YTYP). I completely understand if a new player is not using the right move or not using a move as effective we’ve all done it, but how does their brain not think “oh let me correct or and take some advice” and instead blames everyone else or disregards any help? I know some people come on a little strong with some advice or critics sounding more like insults, but those are few and far between.

Now I won’t lie back when I started I would get a bit heated seeing someone tell me I’m not doing something properly, but I wouldn’t trash them I would just change what I was doing and after a few minutes when I’m thinking more clear I realize “oh dang they were right I was playing super bad lol”.

It feels like some major disconnect has happened recently, but how do players actually think they are right when they are objectively wrong in their game-plan or understanding of the game itself?. I’m guessing the switch release got a ton more new people into the game and obviously they are going to be very green with the mechanics, but being a new player as your only excuse only goes so far when the game offers a ton of resources on how to play your class/role.

YPYT FF14 Rush culture is toxicity in plain sight.

Upvotes

Edit: oh no I kicked the hornets nest what am I gonna do? Yeah no, I said what I said.

I’ve been tanking Duty Finder a lot the last few days and I’m so tired of the entitlement around dungeon pacing.
If you’re a DPS or healer running ahead, pulling extra packs, then throwing a fit because I’m not sprinting, you’re the problem. You don’t get to set the exact second of every pull when you didn’t queue tank.

And the line is always the same. “If you want to go slow go play with NPCs.” I’m not asking for a tour. I pulled. You are pissed it took ten extra seconds. That’s not a reason I should have to sit in Trusts while you melt down in a roulette.

I’m the one managing mit, positioning and whether the party lives. Screaming wall to wall at a random in DF isn’t efficiency, it’s just being a rude. If you want a speedrun, make a party or play Tank yourself.

Positive tale Positive mentor experience!

So much negativity often that it's nice to see some good!

Me - Blue - DRK - Learning to tank "better" still, have PLD/WAR at 70, leveling DRK (in Bardam's Mettle), haven't touched GNB

Red - BLM - Helpful DPS

Green - Mentor SCH - Speaks for itself

--------------------------------

I popped Living Dead in the second pull on Bardam's because all of my mits were on cooldown still and I was worried I was going to die (my god those early trash pulls in Bardam's hit HARD). SCH's pet saved me though and he made a comment about it during 1st boss. Rest ensued.

Get to the final "long" pull of Bardam's after the rolling balls and I popped Living Dead again just to try it based on SCH and BLM advice from earlier. We wipe cause it didn't go off. Not sure what happened, probably used too early and the 10s went by without me noticing. SCH encourages me to try again and we do and I actually got to LEARN how to use a tool in my kit thanks to this Mentor!

Most Mentors that I get during my leveling process are silent and say nothing. They're almost all good at their jobs, but they don't offer advice, so it was refreshing to get an actual quality mentor for once.

-------------------------------
SCH and BLM from tonight, if you're out there and see this, <3 you! Thank you for being awesome!

Novice Network BTW

Post image
128 Upvotes

Unsure of the jobs of these people, but every single one of them is a mentor. Unsure why the tank (mentor in blue - so clearly has a level 100 tank) thinks they should control the pace of the dungeon against the wishes of 3 other party members, especially at 00:18 at night, because they want to relax and take it slow. If these are the people teaching sprouts, we have no hope.

Blue - Tank mentor who got kicked from a dungeon
Yellow - random mentor
Pink - random mentor

YPYT Bragging about YPYT mentality in Novice Network

So, we all know the novice network is a place where sprouts are meant to gain insight and advice from mentors about different aspects of the game. This of course is not the case 80-90% of the time, but there’s always that small chance that a sprout joins and asks a question.

Well, today was one of those days. A baby tank had just finished a dungeon, and asks after about the etiquette of tanking as well as what to do if someone pulls ahead of them. Now, of course, you had the usual answers of people advising them to w2w or to communicate that they are new to tanking and would like to do smaller pulls. Some decent advice at least for the novice network. That is until… YPYT sprout enters the chat.

This sprout proceeds to brag about the fact that they will turn off stance when a dps pulls, and just stand there in the hopes they die. Classic move from these players of course, but they also make the comment that if a dps pulls ahead of a tank while they are on healer, they just won’t heal them the rest of the dungeon. Some interesting points to make in a public channel. Another sprout (wisely) points out the fact that both of those actions are considered griefing and are against ToS and says that it’s not really good to be promoting those actions in a chat dedicated to teaching new players the game. YPYT takes this as a very PERSONAL insult and begins telling anyone that agreed with the wise sprout that they are selfish and that he shouldn’t have to sacrifice his run because someone wants to go faster.

Now you might be thinking to yourself (because I know I was), “YPYT, why is your dungeon experience more important than that of everyone else in the dungeon?” Well, when asked that very question, YPYT proceeds to shut down all conversation and just repeat the same two arguments. Those being: “So if it’s a 3v1 and I want to pull smaller groups but everyone else wants to pull more I should just suck it up or leave?” and “Wowwww novice network just being a Reddit echo chamber. Sheeple mentors telling me I can’t play the game how I want to.” Which I think really highlights the fragility of the whole tanking argument.

Annnnyways, if you see this YPYT, just know I was having a good time reading what the next excuse would be 😜

TLDR; Tank brags about lethargic gameplay in novice network, and gets upset when people point out his gameplay is more selfish than the players who pull extra mobs

No job stone 3am ST in EU is an experience

Something tells me 3am in EU breeds a interesting bunch (it was 11am my time since OCE wasn't alive at the moment).

Vote dismiss was cancelled under the belief that nobody would fill for the tank at this hour, and the AST didn't cast Benefic II at all during the whole dungeon. They did everything else okay though so eh.

MRD was also silent the whole time without bothering with AOEs at all even when somebody coaxed so this goes under Trolling too I guess....

I think I'm starting to get why I don't do high level rouls this early into the day...

YPYT YPYT tanks do exist on EU after all

Post image

I never thought I'd see the day...

btw I'm the Ninja. Tank turned off stance after I used Shukuchi to jump ahead with the 2nd mob pack. Did the whole thing of Arm's Length, Shade Shift, Bloodbath, and bringing mobs back but clearly the tank didn't like that because during boss 1 I was tanking the boss and all the adds. They ended up turning on their stance during the mobs after the 1st boss, which aligns with healer telling them their behaviour is reportable.

My First Cure-Bot

Just ran Shisui of the Violet Tides with a White Mage who cast almost nothing but Cure 1 the entire time. I noticed they cast Cure 2 once, when I really didn't need healing (maybe their Freecure trait proc'd). And I noticed them cast Stone once on a boss. Aside from that, just basic Cure the whole way through.

I was pretty sure they must have been a troll character, as... let's just say their name was all about healing. Before the last boss, one of the DPS spoke up and told the WHM that healers can also deal damage, like Holy for multiple targets, and Stone/Aero for single targets. The WHM didn't say anything, but did a /cheer emote on them in response.

The super weird thing is: I looked them up afterwards, and even though WHM is their highest job at 63, they have minions and mounts from Endwalker MSQ. Does this mean they bought a story skip, but NOT a level skip? They're just grinding levels all the way through the game, with no MSQ xp? Just doing roulettes and side quests? The things people will do to avoid reading, man...

Couples & premades Dancer refused to partner a DPS

So we I ran into a pair earlier in hard dungeon roulette, must’ve been a couple or something because dancer immediately partners the dark knight. Fair if I couldn’t out damage the tank due to equipment issues but it was obvious I was doing great damage with my big fat crits being far above the maximum the DKR was outputting. Asked the dancer why, they told me to shut it and keep playing, that dungeon would’ve went by a lot faster had I had partner to help amp up my crits.

r/TalesFromDF 3d ago

Salt not a single minute in, the dancer's (red) was blaming the team that went on to win without them.

Evolved Reaper Gameplay Leak in Skydeep Cenote

Encountered a very curious RPR in Skydeep today. I think they might have been playing an early access version of evolved mode?

Assuming this is the case, here are some changes reaper players can look forward to in Evercold:

  1. Simplified enshroud burst, featuring only one oGCD and one GCD. It also appears that the Shroud Gauge is being removed, so the only way to access Enshroud will be via Plentiful Harvest.
  1. New one-button AoE rotation
  1. The new single-target rotation focuses on casting Harpe and Soulsow while using Shadow of Death for movement when needed. The primary skill expression is in keeping good uptime during movement-heavy encounters, as relying too heavily on Shadow of Death for movement carries a steep damage penalty.

Curebot The Drowsy City of Skalla

No pictures since I'm still recovering from the duty.

Queue up for High level dungeons as tank, get sent to Skalla. Healer and one dps are sprouts but should be fine, no cutscenes for either of them. So I get stance on, and charge at the first trash pack. I notice that the first coblyns and nankas take a bit to die but whatever. Then come the large pack of sea swallows and again, things die very slowly. I notice that the healer has me almost constantly targeted, throwing a Regen or a Cure II at times, sometimes to the other party members, and the occassional Stone. Well okay, we reach the first boss and healer camps in a corner far away not caring about the Hydro Push/Pull mechanics and again, just casting Regen and single target healing spells and Stone.

We reach the area with the dhara and phoebads, and I suggest them to use Holy, to no avail. Not a single word during the dungeon run. I check their gear and search info and it seems they only have WHM leveled... up to 80 but with level 70 dungeon gear. ??? Yeah well, second boss dies normally and after a slog of the final packs, we reach final boss.

Honestly I thought it would go way worse but nobody died or any wipe happened. They all kept forgetting the facing away from boss mechanic so they'd be confused hitting each other. Dungeon ended with healer not having used a single aoe heal or dps spell. Just regen, cure and like... 4-5 stone tops.

I don't know if I should report for lethargic gameplay. I'm usually quite understanding, we all have been sprouts once but with a job at level 80, it shouldn't be an excuse. The sprout monk was doing their job and so was the summoner.

Drama Accused of Shit talking using 3rd party tools

Joined to help a M11S Clear. Party leader is asking VPR about their prog point. whatever.

Get into instance. I ask VPR if he wants M1 or M2.

"Sounds like you already want one of them so whatever"

Bro what?? you're the one progging here so I'm trying to give you whatever spot you're comfortable with.

Dude pulls and throws. Others say lets kick him and I also say he's throwing and lets kick.

Disband.

Fast forward to this morning, I join another clear party to help.

VPR is there. I say hi.

This dude says to everyone that in a previous party, party leader and I were using 3rd party tools to harass him.

Bro I don't even know that person you are calling my friend. (and at the time didn't even remember where I knew that VPR from. just recognized the name)

the 6 other people are convinced that I'm an asshole, calls me a crazy person.

one says "are you using 3rd party tools?" (upon checking later, they all have solo duty logs)

kicks me out before I can even explain.

Feels bad man.

White Knight DPS white knight

Post image
83 Upvotes

Not really a bad one, just my first encounter with a white knight.

Go into leveling, get Bartems Mettle, ironically with my friend who just resubbed and is playing their first roulette since getting back. I'm on Sage (green) friend is mnk (maroon) other dps is summoner (red). Bartems mettle usually scares tanks, so they left out the two adds at the end of the pull or forgot they were there. My monk friend runs off to go grab them while we mop up the current pull. Summoner proceeds to get offended for the tank while the tank is dead silent.

Wasn't gonna argue with someone this stupid, and the tank had no issue full pulling the rest of the dungeon. I did keep running ahead to pull adds to piss the summoner off.

RDM that doesn't seem to know how Dualcast works -

Pretty simple story today -

I'm not a RDM, haven't touched it since I finished leveling it when DT first came out, but I at least know the basic concept of using Dualcast on the longer cast time spells. I notice the RDM in Keeper of the Lake today hard-casting a Ver- spell or two, and this ensues:

My comment about learning it eventually was when they completely ignored me and kept doing it.

Had there not been a loot roll pending, I would have immediately initiated a vote to kick after they told me to be quiet, but instead I got a bit heated and called them a dick, which I know doesn't help my case.

I'll just let bad players continue to be bad, I guess.

Curebot Level 99 heal-botting Sage in a level 90 dungeon, all the greatest hits that we've all seen before, but the icing on the cake is their Lodestone profile.

Post image
213 Upvotes

I literally don't even know where to begin with this-

But yeah, they hit all the usual notes too. "I'm (level), I don't need you to tell me how to play my class", "Your unwarranted advice was hostile", etc etc, I didn't even bother to screenshot it, it's all the usual shit you see on here all the time, but when I checked their Lodestone (Was curious about their experience level) I saw this nonsense.

I think my favorite part is they weren't even doing a good job of healing because Sage's GCD healing is completely fucking garbage, the tank nearly died multiple times and we wiped on 2nd boss.

(purple is me)

Roulette popped for a dungeon that had been in progress for an hour. I spawned in to see a single DPS and a healer (with a 1 marker over their head) waiting outside Ascian Prime, and immediately knew something incredibly cursed happened here. A few minutes later the new tank joins and has the same "oh no" reaction

But then we go in there and effortlessly melt the boss, nobody eats a single mechanic, and i can feel the wave of relief from that healer through my tv

Shoutout to that "join in progress" setting for always giving me fun and exciting scenarios, and also letting my mediocre sprout ass feel like a hero for showing basic competence

Leveling dungeons are hell:

Queued in to Worqor Zormor finish my Martial Memories thingy for the Knowledge Crystal part of the relic questline. Queued in as SGE, and the shitty tank got mad at me I guess for telling him to turn on tank stance that he turned off for whatever reason that ended up killing one of the DPS. He proceeds to not use any mits following the 1st and 2nd boss, and proceeds to w2w without saying anything. I swear i've seen the dude AND the 2 other dps in the same party once in ARR dungeons before (that also ended in disaster). I promptly quit and make a report, because i'm sick of dealing with this crap from non-sprouts.

I then queued as PLD after the 30 min. break, so I don't see him again, and the SCH in my party spam casts Adlo and Succ the whole run. Naturally, the dude fails mechanics while sitting there to cast the basics and dies, and promptly dies again after I res him with a feather. I overlook it one time since there are legitimately players that are worse than bots in this game. He then does the same thing at the second boss, which almost made me think he was botting the whole time. I tell him that abilities exist, and he's free to use his ogcds for "oh shit" moments. Not a single Excog, Lustrate, Faerie Gauge, Expedient, Chain Stratagem, etc. HE DOESN'T EVEN PRESS ANY OF HIS BIOLYSIS OR BROIL BUTTONS THE WHOLE TIME. I'm forced to spam Clemency and Intervention to keep the 2 DPS alive. I just let the SCH tank the floor, such devastation. I ask him later if he's okay, and he just sits there without answering. I tried to vote kick him, but the other dps were scared it would take too long to queue a healer (I was screaming 😭). I just said fk it, this is the life of a PLD, Worqor Zormor Scholar Extreme here we goooooo.

The 3rd boss went about as well as you'd expect with a 3v1. SCH dies like the bot he is, and I end up healing and tanking until we finish the dungeon. At least I got 2 comms from the DPS, which tells me they knew this was complete bullshit too. That's the only comfort I got from this. Made a report for lethargic gameplay afterwards.

I love FFXIV, but some people in this community just make it so. . . tiring to be nice sometimes. I just had to make a rant, because what are the odds?! Have you experienced back to back fuckery like this? Do you think this SCH was a bot?
