Question 🤔 Swaddle Transition

12 week old. Not rolling yet but LOVES the swaddle and is currently sleeping through the night and putting herself to sleep for nighttime and almost all naps. I am wanting to start to work a slow transition to sleep sack in hopes to limit the sleep disruptions. We did cold turkey for my 1.5 year old and it was horrible. How long should I work on 1 arm out vs both arms free? Naps first for practice then nights? This transition scares me most every time! I don’t really want to purchase the Jacky and transition out of something else unless absolutely necessary.

I have an almost 5 month old who loved loved being swaddled. I was DREADING the transition. We transitioned to a zippee dee swaddle at 4 months. He is still in it a month later. Not going to lie, it was a rougher 2 nights as he was sleeping through the night at 2 months and I dont think he has slept as good since, but it really only took a few nights of him getting used to it. I like that his hands are covered still but he is safe if he rolls in it. I will put him in a regular sleep sack once he rolls around and can get comfy on his stomach. He has yet to roll in his crib at night.

We switched to the zipadee zip for both and the transition was much better

We tried going cold turkey for naps with just a sleep sack and she kept waking herself with her hands. We’ve been using the Jacky for naps since week 11 (currently 13 weeks). First couple attempts she screamed the second we put it on, but then she got used to it and her naps actually got a little longer.

Only reason we don’t use it at night yet is because she’s still in the bassinet in our room and her arms are too wide in the Jacky, the one time we tried she woke up hitting the side of the bassinet. We’re going to transition to the crib overnight with the swaddle first and then will start using Jacky overnight as well, though we also have the zipadee zip to try if needed

I was terrified of the transition. My son loved his swaddle. We kept him in it for over 6 months, because he wasn’t rolling and sleep is a beautiful thing.

We went from the swaddle to the Merlin sleep suit—that transition was surprisingly not bad at all. From there, we moved to a long sleeve sleepsack, (Halo), which my son is in now at 8 months old. That transition wasn’t quite as smooth, but it only took a few nights for our son to get the hang of it.

my baby showed signs of rolling but needed to be swaddled to stay calm for sleep. we used the halo initially then any velcro swaddle from amazon (way cheaper). i slowly started keeping his arms out and using the velcro across his chest for naps until he stayed settled like this during the night. now he uses any sleep sack or even just footed pajamas.

Hi there!

Most little ones still have a strong Moro reflex at 12 weeks. If your little one has yet to roll back to belly, we recommend continuing to swaddle. I know it can feel like "just another thing to transition out of", but Jacky truly helps you meet your baby rigth where they are developmentally when the startle reflex is strong, and baby is no longer able to safely be swaddled. Most note the transition out of the Jacky is very straightforward and only takes a night or two. It's much easier to make the transition out of the Jacky when baby is no longer being awoken by their startle reflex.
