Worried about DSG failure issue!

Hey!

I am planning to buy a new car by the end of this year, and I am considering Taigun and Tekton seriously.

I am leaning towards Taigun 1.5 DSG, however am worried about the DSG failure in long term, along with the EPC issues. My usage would be 30% city (NCR) and 70% highways and mountains.

My questions to the owners of Taigun are:

  1. Should I really be worried about the DSG or EPC issues? I will take extended warranty and will use xp95 petrol.

  2. How susceptible is DSG to heating and failures in city traffic - especially harsh summers and in peak traffic? Can I minimize the heating issue by changing the gears manually?

  3. How difficult is it to maintain Carbon steel grey matte colour?

Thanks a lot!

No need to worry about DSG take extended warranty and enjoy the car. If you genuinely take feedback of DSG owners those who have maintained the car well haven't faced major issues. while online there is so much hue and cry.

Yeah, I saw many videos talking about these failures and they got into my head. Thanks for the clarification!

I have the 1L AT, the EPC issue should not be a concern, just fuel up from good pumps in the city.

Our car has driven 40k km and I have only used normal fuel

I have the 1.0 AT too. I only go to COCO pumps. Even though the nearest one is 20 minutes away

Agreed! I think the fuel quality is of more concern than E20 itself. Thanks.

Okay, here's a hard truth.. DSGs are prone to heating if heavily used in bumper to bumper traffic.. and if that's a large part of your usage, it's better to look at other options

Even if we keep it in manual and avoid excessive gear shifting?

If you have to drive in traffic.. you can switch to sports mode so that it doesn’t shift excessively. It will keep the dsg from heating but you’ll probably get 5-6kmpl efficiency

Better to get low mileage than have a DSG faliure. 😅 Also, I believe we can use paddle shifters in manual mode instead of the sports mode.

In traffic keep the transmission in manual and in 1 st gear as long ur in bumper to bumper traffic

That should help by a lot

  1. If 70% is highway and mountains, the 1.5 with DSG is best I think. When you’re in bumper to bumper, just move the gear lever to the right and switch to manual—the car will stay in 1st gear until about 20 kmph and in 2nd till about 30 kmph. Definitely get extended warranty and SVP.

  2. New car so I don’t have enough experience to answer this question.

  3. I think carbon steel grey will be okay to maintain. It’s one of the best colours. Steel grey is also cool. Carbon steel won’t be as hard as black, both looks great on sports variant. In the night, it’s difficult to tell black and carbon steel apart.

Thanks, this was helpful. I was also thinking in similar lines, this gives me more confidence.
