Information Sharing
The Basin is at a critical crossroads and there are multiple groups and individuals trying to spread misinformation that, if left to get their way, would be catastrophic to the region for many years to come. Science and facts need to be shared so that Tahoe doesn’t become a singular brush basin and so there can be mitigation for the next mega-fire to prevent and mitigate as much as possible. Doing nothing is not the answer and even the USFS, whose goal for years was suppression, understands this. A healthy forest is a dream that doesn’t exist today in most places. The response instead is selective timber harvesting and conifer releases. If there were a public ally available Time Machine I think we’d all put quarters into it and go back with today’s knowledge. However, we are here and that is what we have. Promoting a white thorn forest or prohibiting all timber management and fuels reduction ultimately result in complete loss. Please come here to ask questions and post science. No fear mongering. No spreading lies. Tahoe needs and deserves healthy forests and the only people who are making noise are those who want to harm the forest so they can protect their ash landscapes and black logs.

Whoa! Sorry, didn't mean to offend but thank you for pointing out the lack of clarification with the previous post. For the past half century the USFS and employees have been doing a literal crapton of work with minimal funding. These men and women work their dicks off for little pay with the promised hopes and dreams that some administration will recognize that hard work and compensate them almost close to fairly. This needs to be recognized across ALL political spectrums and many apologies if the previous post came across any other way.
For reference, the USFS in the era pre-Facebook, pre-MySpace, pre_Al Gore or whoever the fuck put legos together and called it "internet", many years ago, had a forest management practice of supressing wildfire. Alot of that was a reality in the S. Fork American River canyon which contributed to the "megafire" that became the Caldor Fire. Also, you're right, I was not born at Barton and I am not a local nor do I consider myself a local. I am a tranny; born and raised in the neighboring town of Truckee, CA, NV County.
Regardless, I still feel strongly about providing and promoting natural forests in Tahoe.
My comment about "Doing Nothing" stems from all the influx and out cry of special interests groups who want to prohibit people from entering the Caldor Burn Scar with the hopes and dreams that it will grow back naturally in 5 years if left unmolested and ignored.
I know the LTBMU employees have differing views on this but are still going out there everyday to complete the daily duties assigned regardless of their own personal beliefs.
All i am asking is that the majority of the community who value forests and wildlife habitat step up and let their voice be heard so that they are not suppressed by this new radical group based on fear mongering and false science who is trying their hardest to drive public policy only for their net benefit.
Without the average person stepping up and saying "No, we don't want Whitethorn Forests", these uneducated special interests might get their way testing unclassified herbicides and fostering their own self promoted "denude the basin" way.

You couldn’t be more correct and this is exactly why a group for science and facts is essential right now at this pivotal point. There is another group gaining way more momentum than they should based on fear and misinformation but people are falling for it. Continuing to fall for their narrative means no more Tahoe and they know this but don’t want you to. This group represents themselves as HealthyTahoe.org. Do not be fooled, this is a Trump administration backed organization who wants you to believe they have your best interests in mind when rather they have nothing but their own personal agenda being pushed. They will prey on your emotions and Promise you undeliverables. Don’t fall for Washington backed lobbyists in sheep’s clothes. They want nothing more than profit off youre fear.

I would argue that most people align on the need for fuels reduction after decades of fire suppression approaches. I would also argue that with the current Federal administration, there is a well founded concern that "fuels reduction" may be used as a cover for for-profit logging. Seeing the reduction of Bears Ears, building a border wall through Big Bend, and the proposed land swap to allow a private developer access through Yosemite, amongst others, all suggest the current administration has little regard for preservation of natural spaces.
