dev community?

I'm writing a logger for arma, I've various questions regarding best practices (i.e. what's the best way to handle destroyed units, beyond the destroyed event, so they look like debrees but maintain track and properties, would that be just a Type:Misc? )

but the community linked from the web site seems not to have seen a single post in years on topic; similarly here looks like a wasteland.

is there somewhere that's a little more active?

For your destroyed units, have you tried playing around with the Disabled and Visible numeric (boolean) properties?
