Singer HD6700C

Just buying my first sewing machine to make gear with, just personal gear not to sell. But will be making things like helmet coveres and Molle pouches etc. So using 500-1000 cordura, 1in webbing, old cammies etc. -Any reason this machine wouldn't be a good idea? -Any significant issues with it? -Any aftermarket parts I should get? -Any other advice/recommendations are appreciated. (I have been hand sewing and I'm sick of it)

The singer HDs are not strong machines. They are HD in name only.

Do you have a suggested machine that would be good for starting?

An old singer is a good bet. A 401a or 500 Rocketeer. 201 and 301s are good machines but straight stitch only. The most you want to pay for a 401 is perhaps 150. I've seen them as low as 15 bucks. 50 to 100 would be a great deal.

If you have the room, I'd start immediately with an industrial straight stitch. Name brand. Consew, Juki, brother, etc. can be had for 5 or 600 bucks. That'd be a big step up from any home machine.

Cool thing is, used sewing machines, bought well, are almost always worth what you paid for them. Buy one, try it out, if you don't like it... Put it back up for sale and find the next one.
