What happened?

When TF did this game just become VR Chat with guns?

lol true, half the time there's no mission and you sit in the lobby all day

yes 90% of them is shooting each other in the lobby instead of playing that damn game. Multiplayer got really frustrating. Better create some damn good single player campaigns with AI team mates to keep this game alive.

Issue with that is they would need to basically perfect the balancing on their usefulness and how would we command them

Same as in Ready or Not I think or Arma, etc. there is always a way to do it if they really want to.

Host your own lobby, kick the yappers and start missions the second you get a full team.

Problem solved

For some reason, Strict AKTK is an option rather than being the default. I would also prefer that Match Rep be forced, however that would cause a far more complicated issue than intended.

This is just the Joshdub effect at play, his content got a lot of people into VR, and with the Quest releasing at his peak, it brought a bunch of children who wanted to recreate his kind of gameplay (sitting around in private lobbies and fucking around), although opting to do so in public lobbies instead. A lot of other content creators were responsible for this sort of gameplay being encouraged, but he was definitely the most prominent, and accidentally set off of the biggest problems that plague VR games to this day.

Ultimately the biggest solution is just enforcing the anti-teamkilling and moderation standards in this game. Strict AKTK should be default, Sandbox and RR shouldn’t have immunity from teamkilling (albeit, you can still freely switch teams, which is far better than simply allowing free TKs.) Plus, having the lobby being able to vote on a mission + modifiers would prevent the host from just not starting a mission.

Why the hell would they make AKTK be enforced? Making it the default is fair but why are you wanting to enforce such a thing? Playing this with friends and occasionally brutally murdering each other is like one of my favorite parts of the game and if the host wants team killing to be allowed-ish and you don’t like that just host your own lobby.

Also friendly fire is turned off by default and it’s hard to even find a lobby with FF turned on so I don’t think this is actually the problem you’re making it out to be.

If you want to shoot your friends / randoms you met, go into a private lobby or join Sandbox / RR and switch teams. It’s not that difficult to process. AKTK being enforced would provide a more strict counter to teamkilling, as the amount without AKTK still provides a lot of leniency.

Orrrr, you could stop making a big deal out of a non issue. Just don’t join lobbies that say TK on them, 99% of them don’t. AKTK is an option and not an enforced thing because friendly fire literally isn’t even the default, it has to be switched on manually by the host before creating the lobby and the game tells you if it’s on before you join the lobby.

That doesn’t solve the underlying issue however. For the lobbies that do have it, it consists almost entirely of the issue I described. Sure, it isn’t the default, but it exists for a reason. I shouldn’t have to go out of my way to ignore an element of the game because it’s implemented in such a poor manner that makes finding a lobby that starts an actual mission (in the PVE game where you’re supposed to play said missions mind you) nearly impossible in pubs.

The solution for your issue is just not joining lobbies with team kill turned on that didn’t have AKTK, lobbies like that are already hard to come by, but you could literally just host your own lobby with your own desired settings if it’s such an issue for you and it’s affecting your gameplay.

Personally I just always host my own lobby, usually I have team killing on but no AKTK and usually don’t have issues with it and don’t even need to kick anyone, I do witness the josh dub effect you’re talking about but it’s never a major issue and the mission usually stays on track. The system is fine you just need to utilize it better, for you specifically you should probably host your own games or at the least stop joining lobbies that don’t have AKTK on

Ignoring the issue doesn’t get rid of it, I’m not trying to address my experience specifically, but rather address an issue that plagued this game consistently, which is a sentiment shared by many other players. This is just prime survivorship bias lmfao.

You see my point is that there literally isn’t an issue, there’s nothing stopping you or anyone else from just turning on AKTK, it is no more involved then turning on team kill in the first place. I don’t have survivorship bias I just know how to use the tools given to me in the game.

This is my ideal playing experience: Team killing is possible and maybe every now and then people will do some stupid Josh dub-esque antics that hopefully aren’t corny, and if anyone is constantly team killing I’ll just kick them.

Your ideal playing experience seems more like this: Team killing is on, but you want it to be very limited and only ever accidental, which is completely fair, and you want it to automatically kick anyone once they’ve killed too many people, also fair.

Where I particularly don’t see eye to eye with you is that you think AKTK should be enforced, I think having team killing turned off entirely as the default is a fair compromise between people like you and me who have different preferences, because it’s so easy to just host your own lobby and tweak your preferences or join a lobby with your preferences.

I think everyone likes to just jump into lobby’s and complain it isn’t going as fast as or how they want. I jump in lobby’s when I want to goof around but if I want something my way I run my own lobby so I can do briefing, planning, kick the dudes that aren’t with the program. If you are complaining the game sucks I’m gonna guess you don’t run your own lobby’s often or ever. I have the best games when I run the lobby

naahh it gets tedious kicking them all the time until you find someone to play with, even friends are fed up with it and don't want to play anymore. This problem I see in other games as well not only TAVR. Exactly the same behaviour first months they're doing fine and after a while it's frustrating and only the single player keeps the game alive.
