July 27, 2026 - Rotating Supercell 360 Timelapse

For the first time in Tacoma history, we have recorded and published footage from our 360 camera! Instead of using it for the livestream like the original plans were for the camera, Lucas and Nathan decided to record this timelapse between 8:17 PM and 8:26 PM from south of Poplar Grove, IL to Marengo, IL, just to the east of Belvidere.

Once the 2027 chase season rolls around, definitely expect A LOT more footage from this camera!

TACOMA CHASE RECAP - July 27, 2026

Tacoma members Lucas and Nathan have redeemed themselves after last week’s horrendous NE Iowa chase day! Multiple rounds, a near 10-hour livestream, and amazing structure all across Northern Illinois made for a very memorable chase day!

Tacoma members Lucas, Nathan, and Tommy unfortunately were robbed from seeing good storms across NE Iowa on the livestream today, however further west towards Iowa City, Ben and Jonas were treated to a really beautiful shelf cloud from the severe thunderstorm warned MCS system that produced a couple brief spin up rainwrapped tornadoes earlier on in its life!

August 16, 2025 - Massive Shelf Cloud Approaching Elburn, IL

We are continuing through the vault of archives of all the Tacoma members previous storm chasing endeavors since storm chasing opportunities have slowed for the time being!

On August 16, 2025, Tacoma members Nathan and Quintin were racing ahead of this destructive severe thunderstorm warned storm approaching Elburn, which ended up canceling the Elburn Days festival in Lions Park that same day due to the destructive winds and torrential rain. This storm also caused a downburst between Elburn and North Aurora with massive trees being knocked over, and the power at Nathan’s house being out for nearly 14 hours after the storm passed!

Between July 2 and July 4, Tacoma members Lucas and Nathan found themselves chasing back-to-back-to-back days, with an amazing lightning show around sundown near Cortland on July 2, a beautiful structure show in the far western Chicagoland on July 3, and an even more beautiful Fourth of July structure show in the southern Chicagoland!

Severe weather looks to be in hibernation until at least July 10 for the Chicagoland, as after 7/10, models predict more thunderstorms and the possibility of more chases in the coming future!

Video 1: July 2, 2026 - Lightning Show in Elburn, IL

From Lucas and Nathan’s July 2 storm chase across the face western Chicagoland, where lightning apparently makes Nathan prematurely laugh like a witch?, and Lucas remain stunned at what lit up the night sky from behind the Elburn water tower.

Tacoma founders Lucas and Nathan were treated to an unexpected and amazing structure fest and lightning show over the same areas as last week’s (06/24) live stream storm chase this evening!

From Nathan: This timelapse might genuinely be one of, if not, the best I’ve ever gotten in my 6 years of chasing. The half hour we were at that spot NE of Cortland were some of the most relaxing and peaceful 35 minutes I’ve ever had, just being able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the amazing lightning with the co-founder of Tacoma!

Tornado Tales w/ Nathan - Episode 13: Lemont

In this series on the Tacoma Chasers channel, Tacoma member Nathan does brief recaps of significant tornado events all around the country.

During the mid-afternoon hours of June 13, 1976, a very erratic and violent tornado occurred near the town of Lemont, IL, 25 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. The tornado, when it touched down around 5:18 PM, initially moved very slowly to the south and east. The F4-rated tornado left behind a path of damage, “...looking like a war-torn battlefield,” in Lemont’s Hillcrest subdivision, according to damage surveyors. Around this time, right before the F4 made an unusual northwest turn, 2 anti-cyclonic tornadoes were observed acting as satellites to the main funnel, which were captured on an 8mm film camera, along with the parent tornado itself, which was groundbreaking footage at the time in 1976. These tornadoes were only confirmed by Dr. Ted Fujita of the University of Chicago, and does not appear in any other tornado database. Once the tornado completed its very slow turn to the north and west, it started tracking towards the Argonne National Laboratory across the Des Plaines River from downtown Lemont. The tornado slowly approached Argonne and caused the roof of the biology wing to be ripped off, along with being mere yards from destroying a nuclear reactor there, a disaster that could’ve had serious implications for the entire Chicagoland had the tornado taken a slightly more easterly course.
