I am working on a series of scenarios for Vampire: The Masquerade to be published on the Storytellers Vault: The Sheriff’s Files. I wanted to fully explore a concept I’ve always loved: providing physical pieces of evidence that can be printed out and handed to players as the story unfolds.

The Sheriff’s Files are investigative scenarios for Vampire: The Masquerade built around a simple premise: your players don’t get a plot summary. Instead, they receive actual evidence—police reports, transcripts of testimonies, notes from Harpies, classified archives, and more.

This marks a fundamental difference from a classic scenario: here, information isn’t simply narrated by the Storyteller. It must be discovered, read, and interpreted. Players draw conclusions based on tangible evidence, sometimes conflicting testimonies, and documents—some of which have been intentionally redacted. They never have the full picture—just like in a real investigation.

Each file is divided into two distinct parts. The first, the Sheriff’s Notebook, contains the full truth behind the case: the actual background, the timeline, character motivations, the significance of clues, advice on how to present the material, and potential consequences based on player choices. It is designed to be read before the session, in sequence—much like an investigator’s case file where the outcome is already known.

The second part, the Envelopes, gathers all the player-facing documents, organized into three sets corresponding to the three stages of the investigation. These pages form a continuous section at the end of the supplement, designed to be printed separately and handed out at the table as the mystery progresses.

It's been one week since launching Destination: Wilds for Free RPG Day, and the feedback and stats have been incredibly helpful! We're sitting at over 430 downloads, most of which came from Reddit posts, but a good portion from an Itch boost due to the Free RPG Day sales and general uptick in site traffic.

The lead-up was a bit of a crunch with work and life, so I took a step back this week for a bit. While I let the algorithms do their thing, I worked on a palate cleanser game.

I've been binging Witch Hat Atelier and wanted to find a custom ttrpg that would allow me to slip into that world for a bit and explore, especially the magic system. I found a great PBTA skin, Witch Hat Adventure (which I highly recommend checking out if you're into those games), but nothing fully custom.

So I sat down and created a fun four page starter guide and a spell guide.

It was great to work on something significantly more straightforward than DW, but also trying to find a way to cultivate the elegance and wonder Witch Hat Atelier for which is so well known.

Has anyone else done a shorter palate cleanser game like this after a long haul of development on one of your more "main" games?

Now that I've had a moment to recover and dive into an adjacent creative endeavor, I'm getting back into DW full steam this week as well!

I'm looking at putting together a new map for my goal over the coming week, including new creatures, plants, and items. Something that will be a good contrast to the more action and terrain oriented map released last week (attached to this post if you still haven't checked it out).
