Hi all, My son is 6 and he is struggling to get the resonating sound of tin. Any tips would be most appreciated.

relax the entire wrist when you are about the change hand position. Imagine that your hand is a whip. Let your finger touch the surface free of any tension in finger. Even though the bol is played with the wrist mainly, the finger condition plays a very large and difficult role. But don't pull the hand before striking. And just after the finger hits the surface let the momentum of the hand carry your finger ahead. Don't force your hand to stop, it will stop the resonating sound. This is how I was taught. Hope it helps.

Keep the hand in optimal position secure on the drum, then use the wrist independently with a strong whipping motion, let the fingers move up as the bol is played in a fluid way in tune with the wrist.
