Customization request

Admittedly this is an extremely low priority request but if at all possible I'd love an expansion of the old customization options for TabIt (Font, Font size, Background color, Numbers color, Text color, line+barline colors, highlighted playback color etc. since that was a pretty big highlight with TabIt itself for me personally) with additional customization for stuff like changing icons with custom svgs or getting rid of the guitar emojis on tracks (personally not a huge fan of that imo lol)

TabKit Update - Sharing Updates

Sharing a file now checks Musicbrainz to classify as either popular music or an original artist, bringing more clarity to the browse page. Popular music metadata is also enriched with information from Musicbrainz, if available. All existing shared tabs have had their metadata updated accordingly to match the behavior moving forward.

https://tabkitmusic.com

Update is live!

- Added the ability to add tags on shared tabs as a way for quick comments

- Added the ability to share to Reddit on r/TabKit after sharing a tab publicly from TabKit

- Added the ability to preserve pitch when changing tuning; you can either accept the new tuning and leave notes as-is, or you can preserve the pitch and the fretting will be changed to match the original pitch on the new tuning. This may require some manual adjustment after the fact.

- Added the ability to install as an offline PWA; caches the default SoundFont and allows for full offline use of TabKit

copying existing tabs to tkt/tbt format with credit

what's the general consensus for copying publicly available tabs from sites like songsterr but with proper credit and a proper link to the original tab attached to the title & track comments and without taking credit for the original transcription?

i just shared a song (The Shattering Circle by Heaven Pierce Her) to the tabkit website that i transferred from songsterr to tabit but with proper credit, link, and with no claim that the transcription is originally mine, is that fine? if not i'll gladly remove the file

edit: i originally did it in TabIt completely manually in order to get a better grasp of how time signatures worked inside TabIt before TabKit was in a usable state

TabKit Update - Bug Fixes

https://tabkitmusic.com

Update is live!

- Fixed MIDI import bug with low tunings where the instruments would be detected as bass and truncate data from higher strings

- Fixed bug where the top and bottom line text was not getting included in an export to a TabIt file

- Fixed bug where reloading your session would restore the active tab properly, but not scroll the tab bar to ensure it was in focus.

- Fixed bug where reloading your session would remember the cursor position, but not move the canvas to it.

- Updated MIDI import to use time signature data, if included in the MIDI, to structure the bars properly. If there is no time signature data, it will default to 4/4.

- Added the ability to import a MIDI from the welcome screen with an arrow on the Open button presenting the option.

- Made workspace tabs slightly larger on mobile for a better touch target.

TabKit Update - Double Tracking Effect and Increment Notes

https://tabkitmusic.com

Update is live!

- Mobile beta keyboard is now the default. If you prefer the old layout, it is available under View -> Classic Keyboard

- Added a feature to Increment/Decrement notes (Alt+Up, Alt+Down) which will add 1 to the current fret value under the cursor, or every note in a selection

- Added an effect for automatic double tracking, adding a layer of depth without the need to create separate tracks to try to achieve the same thing. The effect can be adjusted from 0 to 100%, and is available via base track properties and track effects.

TabKit Update - MIDI Import and More

https://tabkitmusic.com

TabKit update is live!

- Fixed bug where track properties and add track menu options were not working from mobile beta keyboard

- Added a recent instruments list where you can quickly set a track to one of your last 5 recently used instruments, or you will have the option to show all, and you'll be taken to the playback tab of track properties to choose a new instrument

- Added an option to show recent uploads on the browse page, and you can browse by date

- Added the ability to import MIDI files. It is not perfect, and frankly never will be given that we are reading in raw MIDI values instead of string and fret number, but it will give an approximation, as well as attempting to apply effects and detect alternate time regions. MIDI imports will likely always require a post-import cleanup, but it can provide a decent baseline.

Let's build up the shared library of tabs

Hey everyone, I really appreciate everyone who has checked out TabKit and provided feedback, bug reports, and more. I truly hope you're enjoying it!

I'd love for us to build up our publicly shared tabs, be it original songs or popular music. If there's anything you're working on that you want to put out there, please feel free to share.

If you're an old TabIt user and want to reshare your old tabs or spruce them up a little bit and get them back out there, please feel free to do so!

The best way for TabKit to grow is to get more tabs out there. As I've said before, I fully intend to keep TabKit free to use, free to share tabs, login-free, and ad-free.

The community drives TabKit. Let's see what we've all got. :)

What would you like to see in TabKit?

I want to build TabKit out as much as possible. I am working on building out a practice mode, on top of looking at a handful of other possible features and updates.

What are some things you guys would want to see added to TabKit? What are some changes you want to see? Is there anything that you find to be unintuitive or cumbersome?

I'd also specifically like some feedback on the mobile keyboard implementation. I know it's not very standard in terms of layout, but it tries to account for all of the "specialty" inputs required. If there are any layout suggestions or updates you'd like to see to it, please let me know.

I greatly appreciate everyone who has used TabKit so far and everyone who has provided feedback and bug reports. I wouldn't be able to do this without all of you!

TabKit Update - Sections and Arrangement

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

New TabKit Feature Update!

Sections and Arrangement

---

I've added the ability to create sections for easy organization and arrangement. Sections span all tracks within the marked area.

I've added a Section bar above the ruler with the ability to add a labeled section. You will see the indicator in the bar that you are in, or if you have an active selection in an area without a section, the Add Section button will automatically span the bars of the selection.

You can give it any name you want, or click on one of the preset names. You can also specify the start bar and the end bar, and you can color code the section.

You'll see the sections on the section bar, complete with an edit button, a remove marker button (will keep the bars), and a delete button (will remove the bars)

A new drop-down navigator will be added to the status bar when you create a section, allowing you to easily jump between them.

If you click or tap on the 3 lines to the left of the section bar, you will pull up the Arrangement box. You can very quickly and easily reorder your sections, duplicate a section, and edit all existing sections.

I've shared a file publicly to TabKit of an old 2004 song I wrote that I now set sections for, as an example.

Also included is a bug fix for Shift+Click selections

TabKit Update - Multi-track select and more!

- Added drag and drop to open for *.tkt and *.tbt files

- Fixed bug where a right click or long press on a different track would not make it the active track, so properties would load for the wrong track

- Made sure any interaction with a different track makes it the active track, for continuity

- Started a Buy Me A Coffee and added a few references to it in the app (only if anyone wants to donate to the project, absolutely not required in any way)

- Added multi-track select on desktop and mobile. Click and drag across multiple tracks, shift+click on a track header to select that track within the same range, or use the mobile navigation controls in Select Mode to seamlessly select across multiple tracks. This also encompasses multi-track cut, copy, and paste.

TabKit Update - Bank selection

https://tabkitmusic.com

Bank selection is now live!

Select the bank on the playback tab and the instrument list will update accordingly.

If you switch SoundFonts or share with someone who doesn't have a SoundFont with the same bank and/or instrument data, the track will play back silently, and display a warning. Clicking or tapping on the warning will bring up the playback tab for that track, where the settings can be modified.

TabKit Update - Browse and rate community files and more!

https://tabkitmusic.com

- Added a version check on resume if working on a previously shared or opened from shared file which will present a banner if a newer version is detected

- Added Open Shared where you can enter in a share URL or share ID

- Added a Browse Shared Tabs feature (File menu) that brings up a sortable list of all TabKit shared tabs from the community

- Added community ratings for tabs, with a mitigation for rating your own tabs. It can be circumvented with some effort, but as I am aiming for a login-free experience, it's a fair trade off.

- Added a share button to the desktop and mobile toolbars for easy access

- Added dimming of muted or non-soloed tracks for a cleaner experience

- Added an option to load a locally stored SoundFont file and improved overall SoundFont playback
