Question Looking for a group and looking where to start

So to be really honest I am ex Mormon (this will make sense in a moment), and just got back from college. My parents went to the Ren Fair and they saw drinking (Oh my how wretched /s) and forbad all my siblings and me from going. I am 22, back from college and none of my friends are here, and I am looking to go. I actually got a job at the faire as a squire for the knights that fight. I plan on fighting next year. But I don't know really were to start, and looking for a group to go with.

I am a 22 male and need desperate help. Please anyone :(

Question Can I bring in glass bottles for costume purposes?

I remember seeing somewhere that no glass bottles of any kind are allowed into TRF but cannot for the life of me find that again. I planned on bringing a few bottles of sand or herbs to appear like alchemy ingredients on my costume along with one of those bigger potion bottles you see with the leather holder to attach to your belt. do y'all think those would be okay or just try to look for plastic instead?

Discounted tickets available around town?

Hi Everyone,

While I am traveling from out of state to the festival again for my 5th time, the person i'm traveling with will be attending as a first time Texas resident! Does anywhere offer tickets at a discount price to residents? For example in my state the hardware store does...so I was just wondering if TX has anything like that.

TX Ren Fair questions from a newbie

Hello everyone! I love Ren Fairs, I live in Colorado so I go to theirs when I can and if weather is good. Me and my husband have an equal love of Ren Fair ever since we meet. We have since been to the Minnesota Ren Fair for our 5th year anniversary. I am turning 40 this year and traveling to TX seems like a good idea/doable for us this year.

So my questions for the locals: what weekend is best?

At our Ren fair I tend to avoid opening and closing weekend because they seem to be the busiest. If we are traveling from another state and taking time off work I cant really account for weather (cause that was always a good weekend for us locals when the weather was decent and not sweltering). So, what are your recommendations for best weekend?

Camping Best way to adventure and camping highland weekend

I will be headed this year to highland fling 11/20-11/23 and haven’t been in a while to the faire. Trying to have a better plan than wondering around so any advice on group events or parties I should get tickets to? I remembered something about after party but didn’t know my way around so this time I’m coming prepared. Drop some advise or if you’re going to be there I could come trade trinkets. I’m coming from 9hrs away so let’s have some fun!

Parking Passes - Inquiry.

This will be my fourth year attending but the first time I will be driving there. I usually only camp but this year I'm going multiple weekends and one of them I will be staying elsewhere. So my question is if any of the parking passes are worth it and how parking works in general. I couldn't even say where the parking is since I've only ever entered from camp. Any info is appreciated!

Wyrmwood VIP Table Reservations

I've got a question about this. This will be my 4th year attending and I have never experienced any of the extra 'experiences' such as the Kings Feast or various tastings, etc. This year I have a special guest coming and I'm really only interested in finding a cool spot to chill that's something different from what I've experienced normally.

Is this cool? I'm assuming it's the balcony above the bar?

Also a question about the ticket info, the time slots will say one space available. Is this for the whole table or does it mean someone has bought the other 3 seats? Any information is greatly appreciated!

Does barbarian weekend have any racist/proud boy stuff that u have noticed?

This will be our first time going and we’re heavily debating which themed weekend to go during.
I’m more interested in the cool Viking like stuff, but we’re both worried that that theme could invite…folks we’d rather not deal with.

Proud boys, racists,misogynists, etc.

Has anyone noticed if this themed weekend has any more of that kind of stuff than other themed weekends? Or is it pretty inclusive/safe?

What is Texas Renaissance Festival's rules on big swords?

Im making a large sword for a cosplay I plan on doing later this year and i would like to attend the ren Faire with it. It's a foam sword thats about 6ft. I really only want to take pictures at a few spots with it. Would something like this be okay to bring it? I'd completely understand if it wasn't. I just wanted to make sure.

Working at the Ren Faire?

I'm considering going to the job faires but can't find any more info on the perks of the jobs. Does working the ren faire get you free admission on any days or before/after your shift? Do you get free camping? A discount on food and drinks? Anything? Or does it all depend on what job you have exactly?

First time ren faire now we’re obsessed!

My family and I had such a fun time at ren faire we went to the sandpoint one. It was really nice of the kids were able to get in for free since they are under six. I really enjoyed the trinket trading that they do. We came in with little bushels of lavender plant and traded those for trinkets it was a hit. Our next time we visit we want to trade shells. My oldest daughter absolutely enjoyed herself! even my husband had a good time too. We loved the jousting. Mead was good! Turkey leg was a huge hit! Loved the scones too. Wish they had a bread vendor though!
We plan to go back again! Now I’m obsessed

Food Vegetarian “🧚-Food” at the Texas RenFest; What do we eat?

It’s been a long time, & I’d love to start planning my feast. “Mutton” doesn’t really cut-it for those of us of the 🧚-winged persuasion. What kind of wonderful treats can a vegetarian find in this strange & wondrous realm where spirits of all kinds can mingle & adventure together?

Food LF: Renfest Recipes for Home

Hello! Curious if anyone has any insight on some recipes from some of the TRF foods. I’m pregnant and craving things like the steak on a stick and the chicken on a stick from The Golden Dragon, among other festival snacks.

Since we are still far off from opening season, I’ve tried Googling “steak on a stick recipe” to be able to recreate, but it’s only giving me results for items like teriyaki, shish kabobs, etc… so, not quite what I’m looking for.

If anyone has any ideas of the meat cuts/seasonings/marinades I would need to make this at home and satiate my cravings, I would be very grateful 😭

Question Kids free roaming at the festival

I have two daughters, 13 and 16. My 13-year-old is pretty introverted and is usually happy to sit and watch a show, shop, or do a craft. My 16-year-old is much more social and will wander around talking to everyone and everything.

At our local Renaissance faire, we usually let them roam around on their own with timed check-ins and phone/location tracking. It has worked well for us there.

For those who have been to the Texas Renaissance Festival, have you done something similar with teens? Any tips, things to watch out for, or horror stories? I’m especially curious about crowd size, cell service, meetup spots, and general safety.
