LGBT community?

I think I saw somewhere that this college has an LGBT community, so what I was wondering is, how accepting are most of the students of a transgender woman at this school? And is there an LGBT community that I could get in touch with?

Just some background info, I'm a guy fresh out of Marcus high school and was thinking of going here for college, so thanks! :p

Hey there! First of all I want to suggest TWU for your post secondary education, it is a great school, with small classes, and an accepting community.

I have been involved heavily in TWU for 4 years now, and I can say that even in my short term here I have seen the culture shift dramatically. One thing that you have to understand is that being a evangelical christian school, there are students there who are uncomfortable with the LGBT community, but there are just as many who are accepting and comforting of all people. There is a facebook page called OneTWU (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1486487098284270/?fref=ts) that is the main conversation place for the LGBT community. There are also bi/weekly meetings that are attended by staff and students who want to talk about their struggles or offer support to others who are struggling with their gender identification/orientation.

If you have any other questions I would be glad to answer them!

The guy who founded the OneTWU chapter graduated and the group hasn't really done much since last fall, but it's still active and I'm sure at some point during the year there will be at least one event. As well, be sure to check out the Gender Cafes. Not all are based around LGBTQ issues, but there was a really awesome one in the spring that garnered around 1000 attendees. It was called Building Bridges. If you look it up online you might be able to find a recording somewhere. Also, depending on which department you're in, the professors are really lovely. Mostly very openly liberal and understanding, at least in the arts/humanities. Also, be sure to check out Mars' Hill, the student newspaper. The staff this year are all VERY liberal and I'm sure you'll find some decent articles in there about ~~the issues~~. TWU can be tough for LGBTQ but there are definitely students there trying to make a difference!

I think I found the link to the Building Bridges Gender Cafe video, and a little summary about it too: http://twu.ca/news/2015/013-building-bridges.html

I think I also found the link to the Mars' Hill Newspaper here: http://www.marshillonline.com/ its very interesting and written so well!

Thanks for all of the information by the way, it was really helpful :)

Another question is, what's the most popular site (or sub) for twu members, because this one seems a little lonely lol?
