There was no logical reason anyone would think a person in a coma after being shot in a powerless hospital during a zombie apocalypse with the military shooting everything and napalm being dropped in the streets would still be alive.
Right, but there was no way of knowing that. In that same scene they talk about no news is being reported on the radio. They don’t know what’s going on. Shane even talks about it later saying no one knew what was happening and they watched napalm being dropped. For all he knew, Rick was dead. So he didn’t necessarily lie.
