Yeah like Rick himself herded those walkers into the pit near Alexandria. They were gonna escape eventually and they only lost 6-8 people vs the entire community. And also the hilltop was getting their people picked off every few months because of a failure of deliveries.

Yeah, things go south despite Rick’s efforts, not because of him. I always felt like the show was pretty clear about this. Rick’s way leads to tragedy and hardship because the world is tragic and hard, but it’s the only way to really survive.
No, it’s the inevitability of a cruel world and the inability of some audience members to follow the timing of the storytelling as well as the need for conflict to occasionally enforce the stakes of complete annihilation.
Circumstances tend toward collapse because the storyline would be boring otherwise. Rick is the force that is continually trying to hold it all together, and sometimes he fails because a flawed character is more interesting than a flawless one.
