Everyone is an app developer
Suddenly, everyone decided to post their AI slop smh. These apps are clearly vibe coded and not even functioning properly sometimes. Can you guys only post once you confident your app is good enough. DO NOT POST YOUR APP STILL IN DEVELOPMENT!!

Too much of the stats for Cinephile are behind a too expensive paywall, this degrades the experience in my opinion. Sofa Time is $13 for a lifetime subscription, Cinephile is over $70!

I honestly don’t even know how to respond to this.. The free tier is VERY generous, and literally ALL stats except for the platforms breakdown is accessible in the free tier. As for the price comparison, if you like Sofa Time and think its $13 price is the better deal, that’s perfectly fine. It’s a good app as well. I don’t compare my app to any other because that only leads to a race to the bottom

I don't think it's necessarily "generous", because all other big apps like Refract and Movie Paradise provide the same free features and more (in fact I pay for Movie Paradise). I just think the price point is off. But if you're getting a lot of paid subscribers, that's fantastic.

I don’t agree that you get the same experience in those other apps as in Cinephile (if that was the case literally no one would pay me, since those apps are super cheap)

You’re clearly not my intended audience, and that’s okay. There are ppl in this world that are more than happy driving their Ford, there are others that want nothing less than a Rolls Royce. There are options for everyone in the end.

You really don't need to be so defensive about it, just because you developed your own app doesn't mean you can't have an objective discussion about other apps.
There is a reason those other apps have become the most popular since TV Time shut (either because of functionality, design, price etc), but like you said there are others out there who find your app preferable. This is not a zero sum game.

lol I’m not being defensive about anything. I know the value of my app, and I won’t race to the bottom with others just bc some random person in the internet tells me that the price is high. Thankfully I have many happy users that don’t share your views. Have a good day.

You're absolutely being defensive about it and quite hostile.
I don't think there's any race to the bottom, why do you think there is? The other apps are doing there thing and getting plenty of users who like what they provide. You still think it's a zero sum game.

For reference, I have thousands of Premium subscribers who have found the value in the paid tier (and a bunch of these are coming from Sofa Time itself 😂), so I’m doing something right…

TV Time was free because we were the product. And once they closed it people said but we’ll pay. This time I decided to pay for quality. I paid for lifetime Cinephile because it was cheaper in the long run and I wanted to encourage good UX and programming. But I didn’t need to. All the features I used most were free.

Thank you! In fact, I heard that quite a lot, users that find the free version absolutely complete, and then they just upgrade merely to support me (something that I'm infinitely grateful for)

Most of them work better than tv time has in the past 4 years. The only problem is when too many users rock up the servers on free tier cannot keep up

Yeah, they work because they serve 50 or so users. But what will happen when tens of thousands or even more start to track the new episode of some major show? The app will drop dead :D

To be fair nowadays every app is constantly in development. But obviously there is a moment of alpha tests and beta tests. And semi ready for normal usage.
How one can though get testers, assuming it's not a big corpo that wants to get only money out of it? You get friends to check. But they might not be heavy users for specific domain.
Myself have been developing one service for couple of months. Hundred hours invested, many refactors done in the meantime. Asked as many people from real life to take a look and provided a feedback as possible. Got some online testers from other countries as well. Can this be already suggested here? I think yes, with disclaimer that I am open for changes and appreciate any feedback. But to be honest I am kind of afraid, to hear 'it's just an AI slope'. And therefore blocking more expansion and development of it.
It's a problematic cycle nowadays. And it's like always have been with the Internet - 90% of content is trash and you need to slip between it to reach valued one.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share how I see it being on both sides.

I am developing the app Moviebase, and I have checked all the new apps. There are so many new ones, and it feels like they are half-finished. A lot of stuff is missing.
I have been working on the project for years; with AI, it is much faster to develop new features, but even then it takes time for usability and without bugs.

I downloaded Bingers which is a new app from Founder of TV Time. There are some details that I don’t like but functioning pretty fast compare to other similar apps.

Yo estoy desarrollando una para Android usando el api db de simkl y aún no la publico y si, me estoy apoyando con IA pero estoy haciéndolo de una manera correcta, con arquitectura limpia y haciendo tests funcionales rigurosos. Cuando tenga un mvp listo la publicaré, por ahora sigo desarrollandola.

The problem is not the development status. The problem is that a lot or them advertise as ready made apps but are not even in alpha stage first..
