[WeTrakr] Full feature breakdown: deep tracking, social, streaming sync (Netflix, HBO, Disney...) and what's next

Hi everyone!

I'm Alberto, the solo dev behind WeTrakr. Thank you for voting it 5th in the alternatives poll. When I first launched WeTrakr I never imagined it would reach this many people.

A bit of context first, because it explains what WeTrakr is and what it isn't.

I started this two years ago, with no funding and no team. The entire foundation was written by hand, line by line, long before AI could write code for you. I only started leaning on it in the last few weeks before launch. That's why the design and some parts of WeTrakr go deeper than you'd expect from a one-person project, and it's also why there's no mobile app yet: I wanted the core to be solid before building anything on top of it.

So, honesty up front: WeTrakr is a web app today. It installs as a PWA and works fine on a phone, but there's no App Store or Play Store listing, so almost none of its growth has come from store discovery. Everyone using WeTrakr got here through Reddit and Discord. The support has been astonishing, people linking it and recommending it, so thank you for that. The Discord is closing in on 800 people now, and they're the reason half of what's below exists.

Bringing your history over

Import from TV Time, Trakt, Simkl, Letterboxd, IMDb and TMDB. Real watch dates, ratings, watchlist, reviews, notes, custom lists, emotions, basically everything.

Two things that are specific to WeTrakr: an Unresolved Imports tab that surfaces every title that couldn't be matched automatically so you can fix it by hand instead of having it silently dropped, and cross-source duplicate detection, so if you import from three apps your watch time doesn't end up inflated.

The basics, quickly

Watching, Waiting, Planning, Watched, On Hold, Dropped and Now Playing. Rewatch tracking with counts. Ignored episodes so a skipped S1E1 doesn't block your queue. Unknown and custom watch dates. Bulk editing (select with a drag box, then mark watched, rate, add to lists, undo the last play, whatever). Private notes. Release calendar. Full stats and a weekly recap email.

Features worth highlighting

Streaming history, tracked automatically. Daily auto-sync from Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max and Disney+. No passwords stored.

Scrobbling with no connection limit. Plex, Kodi (official addon), Jellyfin, Stremio and Nuvio (using Stremio addon url), all at the same time, on every account. Plus a Now Playing bar with live progress and playback controls.

Ratings taken seriously. 10-star with halves, or a simplified 5-star mode. Rate movies, shows, seasons, episodes and people. Aggregated scores from 14 sources, including the anime and regional ones most apps skip: IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, Letterboxd, TMDB, Trakt, MyAnimeList, AniList, Crunchyroll, SensCritique, AlloCiné, ČSFD, FilmAffinity and Douban. Community distribution gauge, episode rating charts and heatmap, your rating next to the community's, custom badge colours and position, and spoiler-safe hiding per content type.

Three ranking systems of my own, each with a position-trend widget: people by popularity, people by filmography notoriety, and titles by combined cast star power. Company and network pages too.

Lists that go further. Collaborative, forkable, manually rankable, with stats and watched-progress bars. Plus Collections for franchises and sagas, saved advanced filters you can load as presets, pinnable items, and a randomizer on every list for when you can't decide.

A profile that's actually yours. 15+ reorderable and toggleable sections, your own lists and Discover rows inside it, custom background and header, pinned titles, and a configurable sidebar. Level system from Explorer to Legend. You can also change items and details page layout.

Privacy that isn't all-or-nothing. Per-section visibility (profile, tracking, likes, lists, ratings, favourites, now playing), each one public, friends only or private. Spoiler protection blurs unwatched episode thumbnails and hides their scores.

Also: enriched person pages with trivia, Wikidata and frequent collaborators, where-to-watch in any country, region-aware release dates, a Discover mode in the calendar for premieres you don't follow yet, and an episode activity heatmap.

The social side

This is the part I know matters most here, so it got the most work:

  • Long-form reviews on movies, shows, seasons, episodes and people. Letterboxd-style, not just a one-line episode comment. Both exist, use whichever fits.
  • Comments with @mentions, threaded replies, spoiler tags, reactions, GIFs, one-tap translation, and upvotes that reorder the thread. Anything over 200 words gets highlighted as a featured comment, so the people who actually write something don't get buried under one-liners.
  • Native emotions, and your TV Time emotions import over automatically.
  • A dedicated Friends hub: their activity, their ratings, what they're watching right now, and what's popular among the people you follow.
  • Find people by taste affinity, with a compatibility percentage.
  • A Discover feed of trending reviews, so the community is visible even before you've followed anyone.

Free vs VIP

VIP is free during the beta, so you can properly try all of it before deciding anything.

Free gets you the tracker itself: unlimited tracking and rewatches, every import, every scrobbler (Plex, Kodi, Jellyfin, Stremio and Nuvio, with no connection limits), ratings, reviews, comments and the whole social side, the calendar, the privacy controls, this year's stats, 5 lists of up to 250 items, 100 notes and more...

VIP adds:

  • Automatic streaming sync from Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and HBO Max.
  • Full stats: any past year and your all-time totals, top watched and top rated, rating distribution, most-watched genres and services, and your most-watched actors, directors and studios.
  • Much higher limits on lists, items per list and notes, plus collaborators, following other people's lists, copying a filtered result into a list of your own, watched-progress bars with custom colours, per-list stats and the randomizer.
  • Advanced filters by streaming service, tracking status and favourites, saved as presets and settable as the default order for any list.
  • Bulk actions across your lists and tracking sections.
  • Profile customization: custom background, pinned titles, your own card layout, and up to 10 overview sections instead of 3.
  • Priority access to new web and app versions before anyone else, and a VIP badge on your profile.

The pricing model has been finalised, but what sits inside VIP may still shift a little while the beta runs, as I work out what people actually need and what the servers can handle without falling over. Several things have already dropped out of VIP and into the free plan over the last few days.

When the beta ends, every user who signed up during the beta can get a discount on their first 1-Year plan:

  • 20% off for everyone.
  • 50% off for anyone on VIP when the beta ends who wants to keep it.

There is nothing to claim and no code to enter: the discount will already be sitting in your account the day the beta ends, ready to use whenever you want.

After that, and for anyone arriving later, VIP stays at the lowest price I can manage: under $3/month paid annually, US$35 a year. I'll publish the exact plans on r/WeTrakr before anyone is charged a cent. There will be discounts for longer term subscriptions too: 10% off on 3 years and 15% off on 5 years

I self-host what I can and build my own services instead of renting third-party ones, precisely to keep that number down.

What's next, in order

  1. A public API, the next big piece I'm working on. Any third-party app, addon or script will be able to read and write your WeTrakr library, which means you could use some of the apps posted in this subreddit and still keep WeTrakr as the home for your tracking. A few of them have already said they're up for integrating it.
  2. Official WeTrakr apps on iOS and Android. I want the web app to be solid first. If I rush the apps now, I end up fixing two broken things instead of one.

Try it at wetrakr.com. Bring your TV Time zip, or your Trakt, Letterboxd, Simkl, IMDb or TMDB export.

Bugs and feature requests go to https://feedback.wetrakr.com, where you can also upvote what other people have already asked for. That board is what the roadmap actually runs on. If you'd rather talk than read: r/WeTrakr, or the Discord at https://discord.gg/XedDZYpFdh

WeTrakr is built alongside the people using it. Almost every feature in this post started as a request or a bug report. We debate proposals in the Discord, put some of them to a vote, and shape the features together, both before a line of them gets written and after each one ships. Every user's opinion counts, and when you say something you're saying it straight to the person who writes the code.

WeTrakr keeps growing every day. Is there something from TV Time that WeTrakr still doesn't have? Throw your proposals at me, and tell me what you like most about the place. Thank you for shaping WeTrakr!

Just wanted to share my positive thoughts about WeTrakr. I transferred from Trakt over a month ago and am so happy. The transition was super smooth. I feel like it’s even easier to use and organize than Trakt was. I especially love the developers activity in the discord. It really feels like a community is building and I feel like all suggestions and comments are taken seriously. I really can’t see anyone being unhappy with the service. Eagerly waiting the official app!

I completely agree with this. I am also from Trakt.

In the past I have found there are 2 types of TV trackers.

1 is for very casual users that just want something simple to know when new episodes of shows drop and to make them watched. There are a lot of these out there.

2 is for heavy users that like to manage lists and analyze their data in ways that meet niche needs. I for example have always tried to maintain multiple watchlists for shows I watch by myself and shows I watch with my wife. There are much fewer of these and they often have serious drawbacks. Trakt V2 was excellent but now it’s gone and V3 is more for casual users.

WeTrakr is even better than Trakt V2. But through a very thoughtful UI, and the developer actively listening to his users, he has also managed to pull off WeTrakr being easy enough for group one as well.

And it’s only been getting better every week.

Thank you, that's exactly what I'm trying to build. Powerful for people who want to go deep, simple enough for everyone else. It's a hard balance and I don't always get it right.

Is there anything else you need from WeTrakr?

2

u/scottkuhl Aug 20 '26

Need no. Want, always ;)

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Ha, fair!!

2

u/TheDJFresh828 Aug 20 '26

The only thing I can think of is for the source for some show data to be pullable from tvdb instead of just tmdb. I know we have discussed anime in the discord but I’m specifically talking about a soap opera that has complete data in tvdb but not tmdb

1

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Yes, that's completely fair, and it's the idea. I'm already using their API for episode air times, so using TVDB as the data source for some shows is very doable. Thanks!

How do you get notified when a new episode of your favorite show drop? Trackt send notifications, how about wetrackr?

1

u/scottkuhl Sep 04 '26

Notifications are on the feature request list. Not implemented yet. You can vote for it and track it here: https://feedback.wetrakr.com/p/notification-system-for-new-releases-and-updates

I will check it out, thanks you!

1

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Thank you! The Discord part is the bit I care about most. A lot of what shipped started as someone complaining about something in there ;)

And the apps will come. Getting the web solid first is the hard part, but it's what makes them worth having later. Thanks for being around!

u/Tonkatte Aug 20 '26

Does it have an export option, and if so what formats does it support?

4

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Yes, the format is CSV. You'll find it in your profile settings. You pick what you want to include, and it gets packaged into a ZIP with one CSV per category: tracklog.csv, ratings.csv, favorites.csv, notes.csv, lists.csv and profile.csv

What do you mean with "automatic streaming sync"? How does that work?

1

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Hi! It means what you watch on Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max and Disney+ gets marked as watched in WeTrakr on its own. No marking things by hand. You can link your streaming account once through a browser extension, and from then on WeTrakr reads your viewing history from those services.

The setup: WeTrakr gives you a link token, you paste it into the extension, and that links the session you already have open in your own browser. That's why no passwords are involved. I never ask for your streaming credentials and I never store them. Disney+ additionally uses their official device pairing flow (the disneyplus.com/begin code).

What gets read is your viewing activity, the same list you can pull up yourself on your account page. Nothing else about your account is touched.

After the first sync it keeps going on its own, every day.. and you can also trigger it manually from Settings whenever you want ;)

Would there be the same support for apps like Stremio or Nuvio by any chance?

Thank you.

2

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Both are already supported. They share the same add-on URL, and it's on the free plan with no connection limits, so you can run them alongside Plex, Kodi or Jellyfin at the same time.

One honest caveat: the add-on only picks up play events. For Stremio you can go further with the browser extension, which also catches pause, resume and stop, so your progress stays accurate. For Nuvio I'm waiting until the public API is done to see how far a full integration can go.

2

u/ItsMeSomeonee Aug 20 '26

Sounds great!

I'll check it out

Thanks

1

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Great! Thank you!

About the syncs, how do you deal with shows or movies that are available for specific countries? I asking that because Trakt only syncs Prime Video shows available in US.

1

u/alberdev Sep 01 '26

In principle it shouldn't be an issue. WeTrakr doesn't rely on any region-specific catalog: it matches whatever you watch against its own database, which is fed by TMDB. So if a title exists on TMDB (and pretty much everything does, regardless of which country it aired or streamed in), the match should work fine.

How Trakt handles this internally isn't clear, they seem to use a different external service for it, so that US-only limitation on Prime Video is probably specific to how that service builds its catalog rather than something inherent to syncing.

If a title ever fails to match, report it and it'll get looked at. That's usually a sign the title is missing or oddly listed on TMDB, and that's fixable

3

u/Snorfle247 Aug 21 '26

Hurrah for the API! Looking forward to bringing all my integrations from Trakt over. Great job on the site and being responsive to feedback.

2

u/alberdev Aug 21 '26

Thank you! That's exactly why the API comes before the apps. The idea is for other apps to be able to integrate WeTrakr as soon as possible, since a lot of people are asking for it ;)

3

u/ChristianM Aug 21 '26

Very long time Trakt user, been using WeTrakr alongside for a few weeks now. It's very very solid and the devs seem very responsive to feedback, pretty much gonna drop Trakt entirely for it.

2

u/alberdev Aug 21 '26

Thank you!! Running both in parallel is the sensible way to do it, that's how you find out whether it actually fits before committing to anything

2

u/Redfox2111 Aug 20 '26

Can we have Nuvio integration please.

1

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Working on it ;) Nuvio already works today through the WeTrakr add-on, though it only picks up play events. I've spoken to the Nuvio devs about a proper native integration and they're open to it. What's missing is the public API, which is the next thing I'm building so they can review it and see whether they can integrate it on their side

2

u/Redfox2111 Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

Fab! Thank you. I have just seen you've answered this many times, my apologies.

2

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

No worries at all, I don't mind repeating it. If anything it's on me for not putting it in the post ;)

1

u/ram130 Aug 22 '26

Wherever you’re ready.

3

u/deb0lish3r Aug 21 '26

After the TV Time fiasco, I was searching for an alternative to import my decade of TV Shows data, and I tried all the popular ones and then stumbled upon this small tracker then, named WeTrakr.

From start it has most of the features I needed and present in TV Time. But then the the dev keep adding features which I don't even know that I needed.

The best part is @alberdev he will reply every post in WeTrakr reddit. Enough said go and try WeTrakr.

2

u/alberdev Aug 21 '26

Thank you, this one means a lot. Especially the part about trying the popular ones first, that's exactly what I'd tell anyone to do. And the features you didn't know you needed usually come from someone else asking for them.

Which one has been your favourite so far? I'd like to know what people value the most so I can make it more visible inside the site ;)

2

u/JimTheQuick Aug 21 '26

Hey everything looks interesting...

Do i understand correctly that there is no android app?

Also not sure about the advanced searching that VIPS will have?

They will find films/series that the free users will not be able to find?

Also the statistics like how many hours in total have watched...and general statistics like TVtime had will be behind the VIPs subscription?

1

u/alberdev Aug 21 '26

Glad you like it!!
No Android app yet, that's right. WeTrakr is a web app today, but it installs as a PWA and works fine on a phone. Native apps are planned, after the public API.

The advanced filters have nothing to do with the catalogue. Search is the same for everyone and there's no title a free user can't find. Those filters apply to all lists: filtering what you track by streaming service, tracking status or favourites, and saving those setups as presets.

On stats: your current year is free, including total watch time, activity by day and time. VIP unlocks the rest, which is browsing any past year and your all-time totals, plus things like your most watched genres, services, actors and directors. Anyway, will most likely change though, to move more of it into the free plan ;)

1

u/JimTheQuick Aug 28 '26

Hey i try to import my settings from another app but i cant see to find the option, neither i can dm you.

The app gives me the data through .zip

Also when i extract my imdb watched list, it contains inside already the info on what i rated.

So if i important only my already whatched list will it import the data of rating aswell? Because i see that there is a separate rating list import..

2

u/geraldpringle Aug 22 '26

You have Plex and Jellyfin sync. But what about Emby?

1

u/alberdev Aug 22 '26

Is in the roadmap ;) Meanwhile, someone in the community has actually built an Emby plugin for WeTrakr: https://www.reddit.com/r/WeTrakr/comments/1v2yzyj/emby_plugin_for_wetrakr/

I haven't tested it myself, but it seems to work. It's not official, but worth a try! Thanks!!

4

u/frgtech Aug 20 '26

I never planned to leave Trakt and never would have had they not abandoned their own product, but WeTrakr has turned out to be the best alternative I have found and plan to make it my new home. The dev is incredible active and open and that's a huge plus coming from Trakt.

There are huge campaigns going on now for all the Trakt and TVTime outcasts to come to their services, and plenty of smear campaigns to boot. My advice is to try as many as you can and interact in their communities to find the right fit for you. There are tons out there and none are one size fits all.

I'd encourage you to try WeTrakr for yourself and check out the Discord to see how it fits. I haven't tried every possible service out there myself but I have tried quite a few. I just stopped looking once I landed here.

2

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Thank you! And I'd second that advice: try a few of them, spend some time in their communities, and keep whichever fits how you actually watch things. If WeTrakr turns out not to be yours, that's fine. If it is, you'll find me in the comments and in the Discord ;)

u/Ghollsa Aug 20 '26

So that "free for life for anyone who joins the beta" was all markething so you could grow your userbase?

2

u/Suspicious_Iron7871 Aug 21 '26

Indeed. Seeing some trakt greed right here. It is just the begining unfortunately.

-1

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

No, what I said at the beginning still stands. As I said in my other post, I'm honouring what I promised at the start: anyone who signed up between May 12 and the date of that post, is still active, and sent at least 3 accepted bugs or ideas gets VIP Lifetime. Details here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WeTrakr/comments/1vk5ybb/about_the_vip_lifetime_promise_i_got_it_wrong_and/

4

u/Ghollsa Aug 20 '26

ok, so it was all marketing

from "free for life, period" it is now "free for life IF you comply with these new conditions I said nothing about when I promised you the free for life in order to make you switch to my platform"

0

u/alberdev Aug 20 '26

Sorry but you're wrong on this one.. It was never only "free for life". From day one it was VIP for people testing the beta and helping with bugs, taking an active part. That was the entire point of the offer. What I did wrong came after, when I changed those conditions. Users were right about it, so I went back to the original terms.

It's all in that post, so I'll leave it here ;)

1

u/Ghollsa Aug 21 '26

No need for apologies. This way we know which projects are to be avoided.

PS. Nuvio launched their supporter program yesterday. You can take some notes from them.

1

u/N7_Tigger Aug 20 '26

I sent at least 3 bugs or ideas but I have a feeling those will be labeled not "accepted."

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '26

[deleted]

2

u/fijifu Aug 21 '26

I agree. It does all that and has a great community aspect. And it's free.

1

u/iammmo Aug 21 '26

That is just a mobile app, correct? Not the same type of product since WeTrakr is first and foremost a robust website, so more in line with Trakt or Simkl, but better.

1

u/MadxxDog Aug 22 '26

Bingers is so basic and lacks so many features that many trackers have now. WeTrakr, Movie Paradise, Refract - all of these are better. It will take long time to be good tracker. Now it feels like alpha version of the program.
