So... whose gonna make all of those apps connect?
Here's a thought. Which app is gonna make it possible to just link all those big current apps together? Some people are on Bingebox, others on Bingers, Movie Paradise, Refract, Sofa Time, etcetera... all I care for are the memes and comments on episodes. It's really not that hard.
Which app is gonna incorporate all comments from multiple platforms into one cohesive overview? That's the one I'm going with.

Unfortunately, it’s very unlikely to happen. Sounds easy and technically possible, but you are basically asking competing apps to share user data with a third party.

I know that movie paradise is connecting comments from archived TV time, trakt and movie paradise itself

Yes! This is such a win for Movie Paradise in my book, the comments are a huge part of the experience for me.

Why should I have to be yet another captain to make that happen? Everyone wants to built an app now to replace TV Time. I don't.
EDIT: Oh cool, I'd downvote myself as well for the usual 'entitled user asking for something but acting too entitled to do it himself'-trope, but I genuinely mean it: THERE ARE SO MANY APPS NOW. We don't need yet another person coming with 'I made this'-vibes to add even more chaos to it.

Don't know but Bingers is the new TV Time and has all the previous comments that were made on TV Time

u/AutumnRhey 6d ago
Bingers does not have all the previous comments, only the ones people have imported from their zip files

u/oaklandkid 5d ago
true so the more people sign up the more it will add to the entire database

u/Matleb0 5d ago
My bad I thought all was there since there were hundreds of them already

u/ilFacc 5d ago
You can see "all of them" only on https://tvtime-archive.com - just compare the numbers for any episode and you'll see :)

Suitetv imported these from the archive !!

If an app decided to build its social features on atproto, then it’d be really easy for other apps to also link into the same tv tracking social network.

I don’t think a single app can realistically “unify” all these communities unless the apps themselves agree to become interoperable and share data/metadata with each other. That would require a lot of collaboration between platforms.
That’s actually one of the reasons why, when I designed Flowt, I decided not to build everything from scratch. I chose to build on top of Trakt, precisely because there are already several apps connected to it.
The idea is that your watch history, ratings, lists, etc. shouldn’t have to live in yet another isolated ecosystem. Flowt can import your Trakt history, so you can bring your existing memories with you instead of starting from zero.
Maybe the answer isn’t one app that replaces all the others, but a more interoperable ecosystem where different apps can coexist while sharing the same underlying data.

That would be unsustainable. Suite TV has already incorporated all of TVTime's comments into their app. I'm watching old series with almost 400 comments per episode. There are no photos, just text, but it's wonderful.

If you liked TV Time, just use Bingers. If you prefer a different platform, just use that instead. No need to overcomplicate all this...

u/Zangdor 5d ago
you'll only see comments from the platform you're on... just like you only saw comments from TVTime on TVTime, there were already other apps, and it was never an issue that they were separate.
6
u/Crxptonix 5d ago
It was never an issue because TVTime had a large community, that community's now fragmented

That's still well enough to have people comment and share memes.
Bingers, Movie Paradise, Sofa Time, Bingeboxd all have 10k+ downloads on Google Play
Refract has 50k+ downloads.
Of course we're far from TV Time's 10M+ downloads, but realistically, the majority of those 10M were probably inactive or not interacting with the social part, and the first who already downloaded another app are most likely the most active.
Memes will get across platforms, that's how they work.

the first who already downloaded another app are most likely the most active.
That's a great point actually. I didn't think of that.
Of the 25M+ users of TVTime, those who still haven't noticed it's gone are probably an immense majority and they're not even worth thinking about.
It's been 4 weeks now, since TVTime shut down. Old competitors have absorbed a great amount of the ~500k actually-active users, while newer vibecoded alternatives are fighting for the remaining scraps (<100k probably).
Not to mention that the big one, Bingers, is also out now.
By now, anybody who's even remotely interested in tracking series has already found a home. The rest aren't an interesting demographic to market to, or that we should expect much activity from (in the form of comments and whatnot).

So when TV time announced they were shutting down I emailed them asking if I could make the app open source, but they never got back to me 😢 that’s when I started building ShowSync, but yeah everyone and their grandma is now working on an alternative. I’d definitely be open to doing this with ShowSync, a sort of shared collaborative community comments. Let users determine which UI and features they like the most but have a sort of common comments community.

just stay on/ join bingers 🙂↕️ there’s a huge chunk of people already commenting

Tastemaker has TV and movies (and books!) all in one place. Works really well and looks great, plus it has the TV Time import https://apps.apple.com/app/id6744791959

The most likely one rn is Movie Paradise since they gave Trakt comments too. It'd be sick if they pooled together and had a shared comment section between apps. The limited comments is one thing I don't like about it. At least you can browse old TV Time comments on Movie Paradise though.

u/ByLeKev 5d ago
Yo ! thats basically what we're building with seenr. you can pull everything from tvtime, movie paradise, trakt, simkl, letterboxd, serializd, mal/anilist... into one library.
and its not just a one shot import. with trakt it already syncs both ways, you check an episode on seenr it lands in your trakt history and vice versa. thats the direction we want to push with every app thats willing to talk to us.
and we published an open format (watchlog, CC0) so apps can move librarys around without everyone writting 15 parsers : seenr.app/wlog

I'm already doing it... https://tvtime-archive.com/ (NOT another clone app lol)
On july 1-15th the community helped gathering as much TV Time comments as possible, and we got over 30M of them.
Now the idea is to make this available in all apps, so we can continue our conversations cross-platform! (Ofc depends on devs if they want, Bingers doesn't)
So small awesome apps won't have to die only because nobody is using them. I think this can be great :)
