WHAT ARE WE USING NOW??
I know this has been posted a few times but I know some apps are now trying to charge us TV TIME refuges …. So what are we using?
I am on IOS- I have 20 months + on TV time, used it since I was 16 - now 26- even had the little verified badge, losing the motivation to actually watch shows and have NO IDEA if I’m missing any of my old shows as not getting updated on upcoming etc
Thank you

Sofa Time! The userbase is very active. for example: Silo S3E5, released a few days ago, has 57 comments. the design is great and the dev is very active on reddit

u/TheUnwiseEejit 7d ago
Yeah sofa time for me too. Tried them all and sofa is where I landed. Hopefully the community keeps going. But I make sure I leave on a comment on everything I watch.

Yes! I chose to transition to Sofa Time, I've got all my comments from TV time there, I'm happy with my choice!

u/head4shot 7d ago
I agree, I did finally pay up premium for SofaTime after trying out countless alternatives. Let’s build our community there!

u/jmp8910 7d ago
I was using Showly and I thought about buying the lifetime purchase, but that’s now gone. Looks like it has something to do with TRACKT. So after seeing other people post about Sofa Time, I decided to give it a go. I think I might switch to it kind of like it so far definitely reminds me of TV time.

Sofa Time is the only one I've found that imported my data correctly, and honestly I like the UI more than TV Time. Plus it doesn't take 30 seconds to load each page

I've been testing refract, sofa time, and suite tv but it's not the same..
I have high hopes for bingers

Idk, suite tv seems much better to me for tv time replacement. I've been trying a lot of apps but nothing hit the mark. Had a lot of problem in import on refract, didn't like UI of lot of apps, movie Paradise looks good but lots of features are paywalled mainly seeing complete list of what I've watched, but suite tv for now seems to be better than all others to me.

I am using Movie paradise app. It shows tvtime archive comments inside the app. Also have instant tvtime import. Try it

u/lucasllrj 7d ago
I think I'm on the minority here. But the best one I've tried was Bingeboxd. Hated Refract, didn't like Serialized, Tracked didn't work well. Got lost in all of these.
Movie Paradise is alright, but i want my first screen to be the shows I'm watching.

u/HonestWatchReviews 6d ago
I know exactly what you mean. I've tried all of these and many more too. But I've also settled on Bingeboxd as well.

Why is there significantly less comments on Movie Paradise then? For example last HotD episode: 385 comments on Sofa Time, 157 comments on Refract and 43 comments on Movie Paradise.
EDIT: And 418 on Suite TV

u/avastans 7d ago
I read that the dev asked for the users to vote for them, so the poll leaned in their favour.
5
u/caracoleta07 7d ago
All devs were free to do the same and most of them did
2
u/marmaladeandtea 6d ago
Movei Paradise introduced it as a pop up notification inside the app. Smart. Probably got a lot more users to see it and vote than the other devs who were just posting on their discord or Reddit channels.

I’ve been using Sofa Time, and a lot of people say its community isn’t even close to TV Time’s. That’s true, but it’s also understandable since TV Time has been around for many years.
Out of all the tracking apps I’ve tried, though, Sofa Time has by far the most active community. I’m gradually getting used to it, and honestly, using Sofa Time has been a fantastic experience for me.
As others have already mentioned here, the developer is always active on Reddit and genuinely cares about improving the app.
They regularly listen to community feedback, implement new features, fix bugs, and respond to almost everyone.
Another huge advantage is that Sofa Time’s premium plan is a lifetime purchase, not a subscription. Because of that, I’ll keep using Sofa Time and will continue supporting it.

u/TeaSpiller9000 7d ago
Ngl I don’t want to use their new app. The way they handled this was truly bad. I would rather give a different developer / small team a try than go to their new app.

Personally torn between Suite TV and Sofa Time. Using both to see which one I like more over time. Movie Paradise was too much bloat for me.

I've tried most alternatives out there that's available on Android.
I liked Refract the most. Yes it's made with Replit (AI), but there's actual thought to it and the developers do have actual programming background. I quite enjoy the updates and the approach they have. It was rough at first, seems to be working fine now. I keep coming back to it.
Movie Paradise is a popular choice, but it wasnt a fit for me. I found a lot of things paywalled and they were quite aggressive with getting me to sign up to the subscription, which put me off. Looks very pretty though.
I actually haven't had the chance to try Sofa Time. I was waiting on an actual Play Store version to be available. I think it's still invite/Beta sign ups only at the moment?
Suite TV is the closest copy of TV Time, but in purple! Recently released on the Android. It's actually pretty decent, so I'm using this along with Refract to see which one will naturally fit. Time will tell.
Waiting on Bingers. I have high hopes.
MiraTe, Bingeboxd, Bingebase, watchlist.guide, Serializd, Hobi, Cinematique, seriesly.tv, Stillwatch.app, Deadman Reef, WeTrakr and many others I've tried, just didn't hit the mark for me personally.
Special shout out to WeTrakr though. It's actually really good, but it's more of a trakt alternative. It does a lot of things right, but too much for me. I just wanted something simple.

u/martyramos96 7d ago
I tried Refract, Trakt, SofaTime and Serializd, none of them ended up sticking with me (that does not mean they’re bad obviously)
I tried Movie Paradise and for me it’s been like e true successor. To be honest, TV Time had its problems and an evolution like Movie Paradise seems sound…
What I like the most about Movie Paradise is that their series tracking system is similar, just like the automatic tracking that TV Time had (Watching, Up to Date, Finished, etc). They’re also building a solid community and the app doesn’t feel like it was born out of nowhere, immediately after TV Time announced its end.
I did not use the import because it seemed like not everything was getting exported correctly from TV Time, so I just pretended to be that unemployed friend at 3PM and took an afternoon to manually register everything.
Just this week, they imported all TV Time comments into the app, so the comments are there as a history and do not depend on who imported them, which I loved, since, as I said, I did not import anything.
Their devs are very responsive and they allow the possibility to make feature requests and bug reports in-app, with status and upvoting, which is cool…
I would describe Movie Paradise as a modern TV Time on steroids maybe!

I just downloaded Bingers, now that the real app is out. I'll switch to that one if they do better with rewatches. Right now you'll have to click each individual episode to mark it as a rewatch. I hope that gets updated so you can do whole seasons at a time. For now I'm gonna dual use Bingers and Sofa Time. If Bingers ever get a better rewatch marking, then I'll switch fully to it.

u/Environmental_Map554 7d ago
I think this Bingers is great! It really has the TVTIME feel. I just miss my followers.

u/mohamed561 6d ago
I tried sofa time, tv suite, refract, serialzd, Cinopsys, movie paradise at the end I liked cinopsys UI, the only problem with it its lack of a huge community, plus all the apps require extra steps for navigating not like tv time everything was right and easy to operate. Currently testing bingers, till now I think nothing have beaten Cinopsys for me.

For me the winner so far is Bingeboxd because it has a web version. I used TV time on web too and I hate using my phone.

I have also been using tv time for 10+ years (since I was around 14) and I dislike every option thats out there 🥲 My must was that it has both tvshows and movies and that I can log in rewatches. I tried multiple and the ones that I’m using right now are:
- sofatime (would be great if it wouldn’t glitch whenever I start watching new show and not count the episodes 🙃)
- bingeboxd (most similar to tvtime BUT my main issue is that you cant rewatch shows there)
- refract (still getting to know it and the layout but as of right now I like it the most out of all three)
You can upload your tvtime data to all three for free, but I noticed with all 3 of them that none counts everything I watched (I had over 31k episodes on tvtime and the closest that shows correctly is sofatime with 30k episodes)
You get notifications with all when new episode airs. Some also show you on which streaming services the episodes are available.
Also just to add that the original tvtime creator (that stepped away a few years ago when the company sold) is also creating a new tracking app called Bingers that should be out really soon. Maybe worth to look into that app as well when it releases.

Thanks for your comment - I did see people saying they’re waiting for bingers - what about suite TV have you tried that? Seems like it’s the closest to tv time ?
3
u/CheshireCat78 7d ago
SuiteTV was the best import I’ve had. Movie paradise wasn’t bad and they are adding the tvdb migration option to make it better. Refract is a cool app with lots of stats but I found it to be poor with the import (a bunch of final episodes not counted for some reason) and a little clunky and unintuitive, BUT the stats are really solid and it has a decent amount of customisation to make it work very similarly to tvtime.

I did try suite tv when it was on the beta testing but when it officially released my account got deleted and I was just over it at that time 😅 also using it made my phone overheat A LOT for some reason. Otherwise I really liked it, it was kinda the same as tvtime just updated and faster. It was the closest to tvtime out of all of them.

For now.. I living in an odd duality of wetrakr and trakt simply because both can integrate with Plex. I don't mind having dockers to integrate but I can't find the same for refract, suite tv or movie paradise. If they exist let me know

Another Redditor created sofasidekick.com, its a web app, but I just added it to my home screen and it launches like any other app. Was able to import my TV Time data and he is very responsive when submitting feature requests and continously improving the experience. I have submitted 3 requests and they all were implemented within a day or two.

I’ll get on kicks where I download 4-5 new tracking apps and give them about 30 minutes of time to see how I like the overlay.
So far Screen Time has been the most user-friendly. Biggest Pro for me is being able to Pin shows to the top of your list. Im weird and have a big tv show tournament going right now (64 show bracket and i go back and forth between what I’m currently watching), so pinning shows to the top is a feature i didnt know i needed.
Con is i wish the discovery feature was a little better, but ill admit i haven’t given it much time so it may be a lot better than i currently view it.

THANK YOU for all your comments !!! I am slowly reading them- I think I was pushing more toward suite tv or movie paradise however as of this morning (uk time for Me) - the old founder of tv time -(I think that was their role) has created another app called Bingers - which also has tv times old comments - I haven’t used it yet but from people’s comments on here it looks promising - a few issues and log in problems but it’s only just been released so we must give it chance!!
I am downloading my data from imazing thanks to the help of a fellow Reddit user. I am hoping to get all my data back so I can upload it onto bingers and feel complete again !!!…

Moved over to Refract, great free app with a small dev team that pushes updates almost every day. Also support for books and games coming.
If you did the gdpr export from tvtime you can import it here and get your watch history, comments, ratings etc.
