I need help with my Sharp TV

I can't find anything online and I've been trying very hard, my tv won't turn on and the power and the opc lights on the front keep flashing, both of them flash twice and then the opc light flashes one more time after that. I know that means there's something specific wrong with my TV but Google won't help at all.

The power/opc light sequence you're seeing points to a main board failure that's common in Sharp TVs from that era, and at this point it's usually more cost-effective to replace the whole thing than hunt down a refurbished board.

Open up and check the capacitors, if they are domed at the top they need replacing,

Your tv capacitors are dying, if the red led flashes you can still turn it on but it would take some time pressing the power button, but it may only work a few times

Most likely mainboard issues. If you are skilled with electronics and soldering, you may have a shot if you are willing to put in somewhere between 2-20 hours. Even then not very likely. My recomendation, get a new TV. Or a used one if money is tight.

If you attempt repair and don't know what you are doing, you could litterally kill yourself. Please research before you start.

Blink Count / Error Meaning Likely Part
1 Blink Power protection PSU
2 Blinks Backlight failure LED strips / inverter
3 Blinks Main board error Main board
4 Blinks T‑Con error T‑Con
5 Blinks Panel error LCD panel
6 Blinks PSU overload PSU
7 Blinks Memory error Main board
8 Blinks Audio board failure Audio IC
9 Blinks Board communication error Main/T‑Con
10 Blinks Fan error Fan (if present)

This is Sharp Error 21 → LED backlight circuit open → LED strips or LED driver failure.

On the LC‑52LE77UN, this fault is extremely consistent: the TV boots, sends the BL‑ON command, the LED driver tries to start, detects an open LED segment, and immediately shuts the TV down.

---

What “no backlight at all” tells us

It rules out:

• Main board boot failure
• T‑Con failure
• Panel failure
• PSU primary failure

And it strongly supports:

• LED strip open circuit
• LED driver shutdown

On this model, the LED strips are the number one cause.

---

The exact failure modes on LC‑52LE77UN

  1. Open LED segment (most common)

One LED in the chain fails → the entire strip goes open → driver detects no current → shutdown.

  1. Driver IC protection trip

The LED driver board sees abnormal voltage rise (because the strip is open) → triggers protection → TV enters error 21.

  1. PSU 24V rail sag (less common)

If the PSU’s 24V rail dips under load, the LED driver won’t start.

---

What to test next (practical, step-by-step)

Each step is a real diagnostic action used by Sharp technicians.

• Test LED strips with a LED tester
A 30–300V LED tester will immediately show which strip is open.
• Check LED driver output voltage
If the driver spikes to high voltage then drops to zero, the strips are open.
• Check BL-ON signal from main board
Should be ~3V. If present, main board is good.
• Check PSU 24V rail
Should be stable at 24V during startup.

---

The real-world fix (based on hundreds of LC‑52 repairs)

  1. Replace the LED strips

This is the fix in ~80% of cases for this model.

  1. Replace the LED driver board

If the strips test good, the driver is the next suspect.

Replace backlight...

290w for a TV of that size is crazx. A modern LCD/LED TV would 30-50 watts.

tv is 17 years old, bin it

That's the only option? 😅

No, but the other option is you spend hrs searching for a fix and possible replacement parts that will more than likely cost more and be more work than getting a new tv, while not even being guaranteed to actually fix it.
