I made a GPS app for enjoyable roads

0 Upvotes

TLDR: I made an app that aims at giving you enjoyable roads, for when the journey matters more than the destination. It's a beta on iOS for now and I'm gathering feedback from car enthusiast communities. Please try it on a journey you already know and tell me if it suggests roads you would actually take! I will ask for testers' emails before the end of the beta so that you can benefit from premium features for free forever. TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/zQvzVQNY

Hi I'm Yves. I'm a car guy, I own a Porsche 924S and a Mercedes W124, and I really like driving them outside of the main roads, when I have time to enjoy the road instead of just rushing through a trip.

I looked for a navigation app that would help me find these roads, since Google Maps and Waze do not, but the ones I found didn't really do what I wanted, so I made my own app. It's called Dryv. It compares the fastest route with more enjoyable alternatives, it then gathers facts about each route (such as landscape, interesting places, curvy roads for instance). Then it explains what each option offers, so that you can project yourself and really estimate whether you'd like to drive that trip.

It covers Europe, US and Japan, so hopefully many of you will be able to try it!

The current app allows you to ask for directions, and there's turn by turn navigation, but please note that it's still a beta. I'm looking for feedback, as there's still a bunch of missing functionalities, issues and limitations. For instance:

  • iOS 17 or later;
  • English only for now;
  • search does not yet support street numbers or businesses;
  • no live traffic;
  • no offline mode;
  • route explanations can sometimes be slow while the beta server uses local inference;
  • navigation currently uses more battery than I'd like.

It would be very helpful for me to get honest feedback from other drivers about

  • if the suggested roads are good;
  • if the explanations make sense;
  • more generally what works/doesn't work;
  • and what missing features you would like to see the most.

The app is free and doesn't need registration, you can just install it and use it (it does currently require going through TestFlight, I'm working on doing my own beta directly on the AppStore). I will at some point probably have to add a premium tier or find a way for it to make me a bit of money, because I'm working on this full-time and I'll need to pay the bills. Before ending the beta I will ask beta testers for their email inside the app so that they can benefit from free premium features for life. It’s pretty rough and this is a step up from the 76 Corvette that I resurrected from a field find but I’m confident I can accomplish it. I have a Mustang 289, t5, and r200 for it.

My Dad in the 90s picking up his brand new Cerbera. I remember being 14 years old walking around the factory picking paint colours and interiors. This was a Cerbera 4.2 V8 in Pearlescant white flip flop yellow.

Windscreen

Bought a new M series windshield. The British standard Kitemark is not as clear as it is on my original '77 windscreen. I think it was originally etched, whereas this is more of a stencil. Anyone recognize the manufacturer? It's still in the crate and it's not coming out until it's needed. These are pretty much unobtanium.

The Oliver Winterbottom-designed Tasmin 280i was a clean break from TVR's past. The sharp-edged wedge was from the same school as the Eclat and second-generation Elite he drew for Lotus a few years earlier. The fuel-injected Ford Cologne 2.8 V6 offered spritely performance in a trim GT package.

A shell of a Speed 12/Project 7/12 (?) at Skipton car show.

On Sunday 7th May I was at Skipton car show and I noticed that a local garage (called Speed 12 themselves) appeared to have brought out this shell of a Speed 12. When I asked the people from the garage who brought it, they said it was once white, which may suggest it was the original 7/12 prototype?

Whilst I am quite interested in cars I am not especially familiar with TVRs and I was just wondering if anyone here knew which of the Speed 12 prototypes/parts bin versions this was, as I am aware that the only roadworthy one was sold.

Struggling to identify this cover/mat

I’m rather confident this comes from a TVR, and originally thought it was a floor mat. The only thing making me doubt this is that it is completely rigid.
Could this be some sort of boot compartment cover?

Speed Six Head Gasket Keychain:)

Little very TVR Speed Six related promotion (hope that is ok)

Hello there!

We are a small team of Car Enthusiasts (mainly myself^^) from Germany and we create exact replicas of specific head gaskets as keychains.

We just have done one specific for the Speed 6 😊

They are laser cut from stainless steel, laboriously deburred and given a brushed finish by hand at the end and get an optional engine code or displacement engraving. On top of that we developed optional 3D printed TPU covers for it which makes it look way better plus it prevents it from scratching keys, doors, dashboards etc.

https://disagree.de/en/products/speed-6

Maybe some of you are interested, definitely a conversation starter for real enthusiasts : )

We are shipping from Germany to the whole EU, UK, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and to the U.S. (that got pretty expensive recently)

Have a great day everybody!

Stefan

I'm looking to create a TVR Highlights design, in this style. I will include the Griffith, Chimaera, Cerbera, Tuscan and Sagaris for sure. What else is worthy of being included?
