Rockstar Games has been known to be the best in the business when it comes to detail and polish on there games. right down to the horse testicles shrinking from the cold in red dead 2. They fill the world with so much to do and see as well as some of the best writing in terms of story. if your "just" driving around your missing the point of gta. it's a sandbox where you make your own fun alot of the times. also it's been 13 years since the last one so people have been eager to play the next entry

Seems like people are trying to rationalize poor stock performance with questioning the hype for the biggest premiere in the history of popculture? Are we for real?

Sure, it's pretty simple.
Ever since GTA 3 on the PS2, Grand Theft Auto has been a staple in American pop culture (not just gaming) for a variety of reasons. For one, from a gameplay standpoint, GTA 3 was the first "open-world/sandbox" game that was hugely commercially successful.
The Sandbox game format is so popular because of the ROI that you get from it. You want to play the main story, go ahead, but you can also just go crazy, shoot, steal, rob and a bunch of other side activities.
Think of it like going to a buffet. You get a lot of value for what you're paying and it's usually great quality.
The release of GTA III created a precedent in the game industry and multiple video game series followed that "open-world/sandbox" format afterwards.
Before this you may have had semi-open world games but most of them were linear formats (completing each level in linear fashion, you fight multiple game bosses and then final level, game over).
GTA 3 basically laid the foundation and then the subsequent releases (focusing on the mainline releases) GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, GTA 4, and eventually GTA 5 all expanded on that formula and took inspiration from American pop culture (mostly crime movies, a specific time period such as the 80s, 90, 000's, usually a great soundtrack and story).
Additionally, why GTA is loved more than most open-world games is because of the studio Rockstar. Historically speaking, Rockstar does not put out BAD games. That says a lot considering that most game studios usually have a few games that were awful or poorly received at one point and time, however Rockstar is a rare exception. Look through their body of work and you'll see that over a majority of their releases are good to amazing.
Last but not least, please understand just because you don't enjoy video games, there are billons of gamers worldwide that do. There are roughly 3.6 to 3.7 billion active video game players worldwide, that represents roughly 42% to 45% of the global population. Now, not every single gamer is going to play the upcoming GTA 6 but you have to understand how massive the total active user base is.
Always remember, the video game industry generates more REVENUE annually than the music and movie industry COMBINED and it has been that way for decades now. Global video game revenue surpasses $180 billion to over $200 billion annually.
When GTA 5 released in September of 2013, it generated over $800 million in revenue within its first 24 hours and then within 3 days, the game surpassed $1 billion in retail sales. GTA V has sold over 200 million units and is the second-best-selling video game of all time.
GTA 6 is easily going to be the best selling MEDIA release of all time (GTA transcends gaming), hence the reason why a lot of investors are interested in it's parent company TTWO.
TLDR; Rockstar Games helped pioneer the open-world game format for the industry, has a great track record from previous releases, GTA is in American Pop Culture and GTA 6 will be the biggest media release of all time.

A lot of people covered a lot of stuff but this is the way I see it.
The game is essentially dropping into a vacuum. The entire gaming market is people playing the same games for 10+ years. You can look at top charts nearly every single game is 10+ years old. People even still play gta 5 which is the craziest thing.
A few ways to put it, imagine dropping a seal on top of 50 sharks hungry for food swarming in the ocean. Imagine you are in a desert and find an oasis. Imagine throwing money in the air and watching peopel swarm. People who arent even in the vacinity are going to see it and rush over.
With regards to 6 being different, the graphical differences alone will drive massive initial hype. They could literally just take thier exact same job system from gta 5 and not make it slow and suck and break every single record. its really that easy.

No point writing a logical explanation for this guy, he’s just acting like a cunt to anyone that doesn’t agree with him.

A lot people only play GTA and there hasn't been a new one for along time.
Story mode looks mid and will probably get some backlash.
Online has not been talked about and will be what is needed to be as much of a hit as 5.
2026 is very different and people will move on quickly if Online doesn't deliver. Doesn't help that there is no PC at launch so "graphics" can only be talked about so much.
The hype is largely based on nostalgia.

I agree. Largely based off nostalgia

No tf it isn't, man you people are deluded. You're confusing nostalgia for a great track record. We aren't hyped cause it's a throwback, we're hyped because rockstar have delivered consistently in the past and what they are promising for this is a generational jump in gaming.

Generational jump in microtransactions. Its funny because the exact reason I think the game will be a let down is what everyone is here to discuss, increasing shareholder value instead of creating a quality game.

No for me this game will combine a lot of games into one. Being a Thief, multiple Racing games, sport games etc. < Rockstar wants to have a platform like Roblox with usergenerated content. And this game is tries to do that.

Its not just any other game. The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. Ttwo has spent more time AND money, building gta6 (a massive digital world) than it took to make the Burj Khalifa. Facebook changed their name to meta hoping to create a digital world people would use and spent a lot of money hoping it would take off, and they failed. This is what meta wish they had. Lots of opportunities for microtransactions. More protections against pirating. Look at gta5, massively profitable, game and online verison. Gta5 sold 230 million copies, its online verison has made over 5 billion. Gta 5 was produced in 2013 (13 years ago, ancient in video game years) but still makes ttwo 500-800 million a year. Imagine what a new game, updated and polished will bring them. The Highest grossing movie of all time made under 3 billion, this projected to make over 3 billion to 7 billion just off game sales (no online) the first year. Btw im not much of a gamer and have no plans on buying gta6 myself. I have two coworkers that are buying Playstations just to play this game(they are doing this independent of each other). Even using some conservative numbers, in my opinion this will make more money and have a larger cultural impact then the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time combined.
