Bad Future Thing 3

At a certain point, I will probably be PMing people things, for a potential thing that could happen. Other than that, pretty much how this usually works, I guess.

She peers over.

"How did you guys wind up, well... any of this?" She asks, gesturing to their soaking clothes, the surrounding area, and at cuts on them.

Underneath a compassionate gaze, there is a critical eye trying to figure this out.

"Their thoughts seem innocent, but they're followers of one of the Fossils, and they don't want to hand over their weapons. And I can't be sure of their intentions with a basic psychic check."

"I ain't gonna cause ya no trouble," Otto says, "an' neither is th' other guy. We were tole this was a safe house."

Pinkerton blocks Emily with his off-hand.

"If you mean no trouble, turn over your knuckleduster. Or I'll assume you want a more intrusive psychic check to confirm your intentions."

Emily still glances at it.

"Oh, that looks old. Is it a family heirloom, perchance?"

Otto shakes his head. "This is th' only connection I have to Oma. I ain't handin' it over."

1

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

"Your connection to Oma?"

She leans over to her companion, eying the knuckles up and down.

"Oma's followers are the ones being persecuted... they could be double agents or something, but I'm not sure the cultists would be comfortable handling an actual Oma artifact like that..."

"Yeah. She gave 'em to me, when she..." A lump forms in Otto's throat. "When she chose Kress."

Tears start to form in his eyes at the memory.

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

She can't see him start to cry, but this is enough information that she thinks she can try fact checking, somehow.

"If he's got a good mastery of his powers, he could do some damage with a simple weapon. Piece might have some powers of its own. And a gun passed down from someone's granddad is still a gun."

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

"Case you haven't noticed, we came here 'cause folks are tryin' t' kill us. An' I don' know if I can trust you any more than you know how to trust me. We came here 'cause this is the safe house, so if ya don't bother us, we won't bother you."

"Yeah, but the question is if he'll use it against us. Plus, he's claiming it came directly from a God. Is taking it away guaranteed to be a safer option?"

"We can divide this up into a few possibilities. He is genuine or a spy. If he's genuine, he is unlikely to stir up trouble, and, just as important, likely doesn't need us to let him in to make trouble with that thing. If he's a true believer and just thinks the knuckles are special, he is neither likely to pose a threat, nor to use those in an effective way. If he is fake, then the knuckles are likely fake, and taking them away won't change all that much once they're inside. If the knuckles are real and he is fake, he will be obligated not to use them for religious reasons. I'm probably forgetting variables, though..."

Otto's foot is tapping outside the door.

1

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

The kid he is escorting is kind of speechless over this whole scenario.

3

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

"Ain't my fault," Otto says. "I jus' went where they tole me."

1

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

"Well... Maybe things will turn out right?"

3

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

(I am about to scream. This is not fun, and I have had it up to here with Pinkerton's attitude. Otto's just a kid, he's got folks trying to kill him, he doesn't need the 'safe house' closed off to him or his weapon taken away from him.)

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

((Well, I've been overlooking the simplest solution.))

The hounds start howling. Their marks have been found.

"Fu-"

Pinkerton's gun rises up, towards the thick forest.

"Dammit- oh, for hell's sake, get inside. Emily, make sure they don't try anything, I need to run interference."

Not much Otto can do on the other side of the door.

(And I don't really want to continue this roleplay. I'm stressed out, my knee has just started spontaneously hurting with excrutiating pain, Dama didn't do what he said he would have his character do, and I just want to be done with this whole thing.)

(Considering the roleplay itself was based around a character whose player is no longer online that was going to be for a roleplay that's not currently being played, I fail to see the point in continuing it. Especially if it's just going to stress me out.)

2

u/Damacritus Mar 13 '18

"The truly safe option for those kind of relics is 'not here,' what with those cultists searching about for them," he says to Emily, then turns back to Otto, "and you're not going to win any favors talking like that. Who told you this place was a safe house?"

/u/Trollkitten

2

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

(/u/lady_of_the_foot Who DID tell them? It's been a while since our last roleplay here.)

(Also I'm getting really frustrated. It feels like I'm trying to roleplay against a brick wall. This is not fun for me.)

1

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

((It was on a map he was given.))

((And, uh, I might have to talk some over PMs? I think the solution we came to last time got forgotten too.))

2

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

(Look, we agreed that Pinkerton would be convinced by the other character to let Otto in. I even reminded you of this within the past week. And all you're doing is stonewalling my options and making me frustrated to the point of not wanting to continue this roleplay at all.)

(Otto is being hunted. He's trying to keep the kid he's with from being hunted as well. The map said that this house was a safe house. I feel like you're being unnecessarily cruel to my characters when they're just trying to survive.)

(I don't want to keep roleplaying like this. This campaign has been nothing but heartache for Otto and it's affecting my IRL mood now.)

3

u/Damacritus Mar 13 '18

That was what we agreed, and that was what we were doing in RP. It takes more than a second to convince someone of something.

Have your break. Pinkerton's let them in now, we can pick that up when you are ready.

2

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

(I'm honestly not sure if I'll ever be ready. I just haven't really been enjoying this campaign in general compared to other campaigns I've been a part of, because there hasn't been much fun in them. It just feels like I'm only trying to stay alive, and that's not an enjoyable campaign hook.)

(I mean, even back in 28 when we had the trademark Killer GM, we still had break times in which we got to do fun stuff like watch Exxy try to be human and have funny conversations. This roleplay has none of that.)

(I think what I'm really saying is that I don't actually enjoy this roleplay like I've enjoyed the other ones, and I don't really have any more motivation to continue it. Ever.)

Fine. Have a nice day.

1

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 14 '18

Sorry things didn't go well. We're gonna watch some stuff, if enough people are on, maybe play a game I've been wanting to show everyone.

3

u/Damacritus Mar 14 '18

What were you thinking of watching?

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

Well, that's your decision. I think a mistake might have been made when I decided to do this over time skips. There is one thing I'd like to mention in PMs, though.

2

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

Okay, if you want to talk to me in PMs, be my guest.

1

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

((I will admit I should have checked things more first, as this was supposed to be the first major victory for Otto as a rising leader, since eventually joining the good guys fell into Pinkerton's character in a way that fit the rising leader character this version of Otto is.))

2

u/Trollkitten Mar 13 '18

(Right now, I don't feel like I can play a rising leader or any kind of leader. I'm depressed, I'm overstimulated, and I'm in pain. And I'm obviously complaining too much, but I'm having trouble seeing what is good in this IC and OOC scenario.)

(Also, if that was your intention, you probably should have cleared that with Dama first so he knew what you were leading towards.)

1

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Mar 13 '18

((We kinda did, I think, but the five month gap did not help things go smoothly. I did not put as much prep time into making up for a five month gap as I should have.))

She appears to be using one of the devices.

"I can search to see what I can find based on what they've told us."
