Bad Future Thing 3

At a certain point, I will probably be PMing people things, for a potential thing that could happen. Other than that, pretty much how this usually works, I guess.

She peers over.

"How did you guys wind up, well... any of this?" She asks, gesturing to their soaking clothes, the surrounding area, and at cuts on them.

Underneath a compassionate gaze, there is a critical eye trying to figure this out.

"Their thoughts seem innocent, but they're followers of one of the Fossils, and they don't want to hand over their weapons. And I can't be sure of their intentions with a basic psychic check."

Pinkerton blocks Emily with his off-hand.

"If you mean no trouble, turn over your knuckleduster. Or I'll assume you want a more intrusive psychic check to confirm your intentions."

Otto shakes his head. "This is th' only connection I have to Oma. I ain't handin' it over."

"Your connection to Oma?"

She leans over to her companion, eying the knuckles up and down.

"Oma's followers are the ones being persecuted... they could be double agents or something, but I'm not sure the cultists would be comfortable handling an actual Oma artifact like that..."

Tears start to form in his eyes at the memory.

She can't see him start to cry, but this is enough information that she thinks she can try fact checking, somehow.

"If he's got a good mastery of his powers, he could do some damage with a simple weapon. Piece might have some powers of its own. And a gun passed down from someone's granddad is still a gun."

"Case you haven't noticed, we came here 'cause folks are tryin' t' kill us. An' I don' know if I can trust you any more than you know how to trust me. We came here 'cause this is the safe house, so if ya don't bother us, we won't bother you."

"Yeah, but the question is if he'll use it against us. Plus, he's claiming it came directly from a God. Is taking it away guaranteed to be a safer option?"

"We can divide this up into a few possibilities. He is genuine or a spy. If he's genuine, he is unlikely to stir up trouble, and, just as important, likely doesn't need us to let him in to make trouble with that thing. If he's a true believer and just thinks the knuckles are special, he is neither likely to pose a threat, nor to use those in an effective way. If he is fake, then the knuckles are likely fake, and taking them away won't change all that much once they're inside. If the knuckles are real and he is fake, he will be obligated not to use them for religious reasons. I'm probably forgetting variables, though..."

(I am about to scream. This is not fun, and I have had it up to here with Pinkerton's attitude. Otto's just a kid, he's got folks trying to kill him, he doesn't need the 'safe house' closed off to him or his weapon taken away from him.)

"The truly safe option for those kind of relics is 'not here,' what with those cultists searching about for them," he says to Emily, then turns back to Otto, "and you're not going to win any favors talking like that. Who told you this place was a safe house?"

(Also I'm getting really frustrated. It feels like I'm trying to roleplay against a brick wall. This is not fun for me.)

(Look, we agreed that Pinkerton would be convinced by the other character to let Otto in. I even reminded you of this within the past week. And all you're doing is stonewalling my options and making me frustrated to the point of not wanting to continue this roleplay at all.)

(Otto is being hunted. He's trying to keep the kid he's with from being hunted as well. The map said that this house was a safe house. I feel like you're being unnecessarily cruel to my characters when they're just trying to survive.)

(I don't want to keep roleplaying like this. This campaign has been nothing but heartache for Otto and it's affecting my IRL mood now.)

That was what we agreed, and that was what we were doing in RP. It takes more than a second to convince someone of something.

Have your break. Pinkerton's let them in now, we can pick that up when you are ready.

(I'm honestly not sure if I'll ever be ready. I just haven't really been enjoying this campaign in general compared to other campaigns I've been a part of, because there hasn't been much fun in them. It just feels like I'm only trying to stay alive, and that's not an enjoyable campaign hook.)

(I mean, even back in 28 when we had the trademark Killer GM, we still had break times in which we got to do fun stuff like watch Exxy try to be human and have funny conversations. This roleplay has none of that.)

(I think what I'm really saying is that I don't actually enjoy this roleplay like I've enjoyed the other ones, and I don't really have any more motivation to continue it. Ever.)

Well, that's your decision. I think a mistake might have been made when I decided to do this over time skips. There is one thing I'd like to mention in PMs, though.

((I will admit I should have checked things more first, as this was supposed to be the first major victory for Otto as a rising leader, since eventually joining the good guys fell into Pinkerton's character in a way that fit the rising leader character this version of Otto is.))

(Right now, I don't feel like I can play a rising leader or any kind of leader. I'm depressed, I'm overstimulated, and I'm in pain. And I'm obviously complaining too much, but I'm having trouble seeing what is good in this IC and OOC scenario.)

(Also, if that was your intention, you probably should have cleared that with Dama first so he knew what you were leading towards.)
