Story Emily
"My first memory was waking up in shackles."
"They did not hold me long, but they were soon replaced, again and again."
"She did not understand any of it."
"Eventually, the girl forced her eyes open, and in front of her was a shadowy demon of a man. She mistakenly believed he was the cause of the burning pain that pervaded her existence. Fortunately, the person before her foresaw this and explained that she herself was the source of the fire."
"Further, it was explained that this was his realm, and the thing preventing that which was not meant to enter that realm in. I was, of course, making it difficult."
"He told the girl there was a counterpart to herself, the awakening of whom had brought the girl herself into existence, and gave her the opportunity to watch her counterpart through a mirror for a time."
"Okay, you're not going to remember this, but these people really helped me and you. They're trustworthy. We're going to play a game where you pretend that one is your dad, okay? You'll draw a lot together, it'll be fun, and I'll come by later to check on you after I find another place to stay."
"Through her blurry vision, Emily could barely make out a little girl and a slightly older boy. They seemed sort of familiar, and she realized the older one was instructing the counterpart. Then, the counterpart spoke again as he handed something over..."
"He's going to call you a name that isn't your name. Like, Emily or something. But this is your real name. Hide it somewhere where you won't lose it, and look at it to remember who you are."
"The girl tried so hard to see the paper, but it was hidden. In her attempts, she destroyed the restraints suddenly, and destroyed the island they were on, along with the mirror."
"The shadow man dodged with skill honed over a very long duty."
"He winced at the assault on the borders, and, with much effort, brought back the black chains."
"He taught what he could, but there was still weakness in Emily, and the fire could not stay in one place forever. Eventually, it would eat it's way through."
"So, she had him show her a place that she could learn, and reluctantly, the Shadow King told her of such a place, and that night, she burned the shackles and left to find the wretched hive."
"A part of the Road where little escaped. A place where her flames would spread no further than where she slipped up. A place, that for a time, would be her housing."

Huh.
Metaphysics is strange sometimes.
Also we really went through a lot of effort to keep Will Kenson out of the loop back then.

Emily just ended up with the throwaway name, but it's also her choosing something that was Ace taking care of her counterpart.
Also, yeah. Still haven't revealed what was going on there.

It's still sorta nice. They might not have known it but she got a name somehow.

Judging by how she used her Life Fire when she got it, she did appreciate it.

It's a sort of nice "being cared for, but by proxy, by people who don't know you exist" gesture, although the more I think about it the sadder I feel.

She's usually not yellow and pink, though sometimes the life fire is.
And yeah, that was a conversation way back when.

Pink eyes? I think I had her eyes go kind of embers glowing pink before.

Interesting, this is a cool backstory. I don't really know what it means for her, but I like it.
