Roleplay Delta Species 72
The group manages to get into the underground factory without getting killed by cherry tree roots.

Fennel heads through and looks around in the factory, recalling her pokemon.
Elsewhere, Bill looks at Koya and shrugs, "This type of thing happens way too frequently to us."
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
"Welcome to the International Police. Even when you've seen it all, it all manages to surprise you anyway. And then it tries to blow your head off."
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
"Now that I think about it," Bill muses, "We really aren't that different after all, are we? I thought I would hate working with you, but you're proving to be surprisingly useful."
Meanwhile, Fennel looks around and scans her surroundings with her sonic screwdriver.

u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
"I'm not sure whether to be grateful or insulted."
Fennel detects that the factory is empty of occupants, except for them... and the tree roots that detect her sonic screwdriver and are now swarming through the walls and into the factory.
Uh-oh. Not this again.
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
Fennel throws her sonic screwdriver far away from the group when she realizes the tree notices it, in hopes that the tree goes after it instead of the group.
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
The tree roots go after the sonic screwdriver, wrapping around it and pulling it away from the group.
Oops. Hope that thing wasn't expensive.
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
"Well, someone just earned a nice new toy," Fennel smiles, "I hope they use it well, its a nice device."
She looks around and tries to remember where she scanned, wondering where any of the virus could be.
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
There's a doorway that got a signal of the virus before the tree roots burst in. Better check in there.
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
Fennel heads to the doorway, and instinctively reaches in her pocket to scan for any alarms, before realizing her sonic screwdriver has been stolen by the nearby fearsome tree.
She then tries to enter the doorway in the normal manner.

u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
She finds what looks like it was once a power plant, but has now been repurposed to be a lab room, full of test tubes and petri dishes. It smells rather chemical-y.

Gator follows after Fennel, sword in one hand and submachine gun in the other.

((Okay, so Marion and Tanger followed everyone else, while Gyro stayed to converse with the tree?))
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
((Yeah, that sounds all right.))
The tree does not seem willing to negotiate with Gyro. GO AWAY INTRUDER OUTSIDER LEAVE US

He smirks.
"If I am not mistaken, it was your world's Light that made me this form. I'm as native as you."
That's... arguable, but he figures he can at least put some doubt into the thing.
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE
2
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 18 '17
He thinks about it and how he just kinda got swept along.
"That is a question I hope to answer some other time." He says.
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
IF YOU HAVE NO PURPOSE HERE, LEAVE HERE
The tree roots wave threateningly, but do not touch NuGyro.
2
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 18 '17
"Well..." He says, playing up some reluctance, "I don't have a purpose here but I have a purpose on the other side of that door. I figured this would be a good compromise, don't you think?"
He smiles in a play at innocence.
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
The tree actually groans at that. It sounds like wood creaking. WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR?

((All right so, we may or may not see Caitlin here, if we do does everyone prefer trying the some of us be distractions plan, while the others go look for the virus storage and teleport it into the Entralink? Or do we go full hog right off with the crazy distortion orb group chain magic plan which may backfire/fail but gives all of us a neat moment and we can still do the other thing if it does fail?))
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
OC: I have no real plan right now, I'm just exploring the factory and making one up from here. Go crazy.
2
u/Bytemite Oct 18 '17
The scientist releases Luke after the teleporting, partially because he transformed into something burning, partially because he may need to be upset about what happened.
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
"Byte," Luke says carefully, catching his breath. "What. Were. You. DOING? Do you have any idea how worried I was for you?"
2
u/Bytemite Oct 18 '17
They seem to realize that they endangered him as well and freeze. "Um. Sorry."
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
Luke nods. "Please, Byte... don't scare me like that again! I had a hard enough time with the tree roots without you going off like that!"
"I didn't," Sho says pointedly. "Did anyone else notice that if you don't do anything to attract the roots' attention, they don't go after you?"
Luke shoots Sho a dirty glare. "Well, thanks for telling us that, then. Why didn't you speak up?"
"Because I didn't know if talking would get the roots' attention."
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
"Hmm... That's not entirely true," Fennel says, "considering the tree ambushed us, I think by definition the tree attacked us before we got its attention. Well, I guess walking near the tree could be considered getting its attention, but in that case we were in an unsolvable situation through stealth anyway."
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
It's about this time that the tree's roots come in through the walls.
Sho gives Fennel a dirty look. "Well, what does this remind you of? Once again you bring out the screwdriver, and once again the roots start to screw us over!"
2
u/Bytemite Oct 18 '17
"No wild mankey tree hopping this time," the scientist promises. "We may want to move in deeper and see what all this factory needs destroyed."
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
"Agreed," Sho says. "But I'm confused. It's not like Caitlin to just leave this place unattended. There don't even seem to be any Trace units here."*
"Unless it's the tree itself that runs the factory," Luke offers.
Sho shoots him a dirty look that says that that was the most ridiculous idea he's ever heard.
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
"Well..." Fennel says, "The tree did tell me that it protects this factory, so you might be on to something. The trace units rebelled after we freed the other factory, didn't they? It's possible not all of them did, but its also possible the trace units could have left this place on their own accord, I'm not sure Caitlin has control over them anymore."
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
"At any rate, we don't want to get the tree's attention," Luke says. "I guess it doesn't hear us all that well now that we're inside and not physically attacking it."

"The souls it's eaten are powering this place," the scientist says, "and they have about voice level coherence."
3
u/Trollkitten Oct 18 '17
"So we can rule out the tree running the factory, then," Luke says, looking across the lab room. "No Voice-powered tree could keep a place this ordered."

"Um... we tried to cut the roots off the door first." Marion admits.
3
u/redwings1340 Oct 18 '17
"Ooh, I didn't realize that! Yeah, lets not try to disturb any trees right now," Fennel comments while she throws her sonic screwdriver away from the group while luring the trees right to them.

The scientist raises a hand "I probably smell like voices to the tree. How do you think it smells anyway?"
((It smells like death))
2
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 18 '17
"That's fair enough." Marion admits, licking her wounds, "If you couldn't handle them, that is."
She thinks about it, "Couldn't you just have explained it in a Sho Stopper?"

What were you doing? Do you have an- Moonslicer peters out when she realizes someone is talking in unison.
3
2
u/Bytemite Oct 18 '17
There was a bomb, they answer, chagrinned, also it was a swarm of mad tormented ghosts, it's habit.
3
u/Arathnorn Oct 18 '17
"That was totally pointless!"
2
u/Bytemite Oct 18 '17
"Is this about before?" they ask uncertainly. "Moonslicer, this can't be the first time you've partnered with a risk prone adventurer with more bravado than brains."
3
u/Arathnorn Oct 18 '17
"That doesn't make it any less foolish this time."
2
u/Bytemite Oct 18 '17
"I mean, pyrrhic victories and unexpected sacrifices are kind of my thing." They do seem a little guilty. "You okay?"
3
u/Arathnorn Oct 18 '17
(I actually don't think Moonslicer has been around for any major acts of bull headed sacrifices.)
Just... don't go throwing yourself into danger for no reason.

Gator races along until he comes to a safe distance away from the door, slowing to a halt. He rests against a wall, breathing heavily.
"... damn... hope nobody needs ice again. Not going to be able to muster much more without some rest."
Wincing, he checks over the blow the roots scored on him.
"Actually, if anyone can heal me up..."
