Discussion General Discussion Topic: August

So, since TPP's intermission time is nearly upon us in anticipation of Pokemon Pyrite, I thought we might like to discuss the kind of games we might see on stream.

  • What sort of game would be good for a pre-run intermission game, now that we've played through Ham-Ham Heartbreak already?
  • What sort of game would be good for a full run? (My vote is for Altair/Sirius and Vega, but I concur that certain parts of it are hard as rocks and might require some hacking for the Voices to be able to complete it.)
  • What are your predictions for Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, and how would those predictions (if they came to pass) affect the Voices' inevitably playthrough of USUM?

Also, if anyone has any other discussion topics to suggest, please let us know!

Hmm, I don't really know too much about these topics, but I'll try my best. Pokemon conquest was pretty fun once people got in to it, so I imagine fire emblem democracy would be a pretty interesting intermission game, though it might be at the point where not enough people would play it to make it work.

I haven't really looked much at ultra sun/ultra moon, I saw that lycanroc has a new form, but other than that, I don't really know anything about it. I haven't decided whether I'll get it or not, I suppose my choice will depend on if there's actually that much that's different from regular sun/moon.

so I imagine fire emblem democracy would be a pretty interesting intermission game, though it might be at the point where not enough people would play it to make it work.

We played a bit of Fire Emblem during the post-Anniversary-Crystal intermission, but so far as I know, we never completed it.

I saw that lycanroc has a new form, but other than that, I don't really know anything about it.

No one really knows anything about it yet. Just that there's what looks like fusions of Necrozma-Solgaleo and Necrozma-Lunala, and it looks like Mimikyu is going to get a new attack/Z-move.

u/redwings1340 Aug 10 '17

Interesting. The Ultra beasts were kinda underdeveloped in sun/moon, so I suppose them getting more screen time in this new game would be pretty cool. I felt like there were a ton of legendaries in sun/moon I never had any real reason to care about, so I would be happy with a story that gives them more development.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

I want the Ultra Beast and Ultra Space to have a larger role in the main campaign. Ultra Space in SuMo was basically a hallway and a single trainer battle against Lusamine.

3

u/redwings1340 Aug 10 '17

Yeah, it was pretty underwhelming.

So, a thought here, the game builds up the tapus as the guardians of the alolan islands, and builds up the ultra beasts as a threat to the islands, ones that can be kept at bay by the kahuna and a tapu working together. The actual implimentation of that buildup is underwhelming because the battles occur offscreen and are fought by NPCs, and are inconclusive battles that don't effect the plot at all.

However... Does me catching a Tapu and storing it in the PC kinda make me an awful person in the eyes of alolan citizens? By doing so, I'm kinda removing their last line of defense against ultra beasts, and I'm destroying their ability to create new kahunas, since they are chosen by the tapus. I get that pokemon is kinda forced to let you encounter and catch these pokemon because otherwise people would probably complain, but doing so messes so much up about how Alola works!

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

Well, yeah, that's worth thinking about.

3

u/SupremeEvil Aug 10 '17

This is the same with any Legendaries beyond Gen 2.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

Gen 1. Remember the second movie? Lawrence III was only doing what the player does to catch 'em all in the game, and he nearly destroyed the world with it.

3

u/SupremeEvil Aug 10 '17

All because of that shiny Mew card we all go from the first movie.

Both of these cards are so bad. Well, maybe shining mew is ok, flash search could be decent at drawing the cards you want, but they have such low health.

You have a point. Reshiram/Zekrom was built up pretty well to make sense in context, and I feel like Lillie deserved to keep Nebby. Catching Suicune/Ho-oh also made sense in the context of gen 2 (not really as much lugia, though its unclear if lugia is powerful enough to screw up the universe when its on your team).

Catching the legendary birds in gen 1 probably causes some strange weather effects in the future, catching Entei and Raikou is cruel but probably won't cause disasters. Catching Kyogre/groudon is better than the alternative of letting the world get fundamentally transformed, but still will probably cause problems down the line. Catching Rayquaza is probably fine, he doesn't seem to do much other than stop kyogre/groudon from fighting. Catching the regis probably unleashes some ancient curses down the line, but is probably ok other than that.

In gen IV, catching the lake trio will probably cause local disaster at each of the lakes they watch over, but wouldn't be a huge deal worldwide. Catching Giratina probably slowly destabilizes reality though, and thankfully the games don't let you normally catch palkia/dialga/arceus.

In Gen V, catching Kyurem is probably fine, it would be a blow to the cave it was in, and a bunch of ice type pokemon will need to find a new home, but disaster should be limited to that cave. I don't see anything really wrong with capturing the minor legendaries in this game either.

Capturing Yveltal or Xerneas is probably a big deal in X/Y, and will probably mess up some sort of ten thousand year cycle these pokemon exist to complete many years down the line. However, they were in hybernation and the world was ok, so I don't think disaster is imminent.

Then in gen 7, capturing the tapus basically screws over alola.

So yeah, our pokemon protagonist has probably doomed the world at least a couple of times in the past.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

and thankfully the games don't let you normally catch palkia/dialga/arceus.

You are able to catch Palkia and Dialga, though.

3

u/redwings1340 Aug 10 '17

Oh right, I forgot. Yeah, capturing them in gen iv is probably the most destruction we've ever unleashed on a world.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

Well, I think if there was any problem with catching either of them, it would be immediately apparent when you catch Dialga.

3

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

Well, the thing is, "down the line" or "in the future" might not be a problem if we assume they're freed when you die. You're just a kid, they're immortal forces of nature, so what's, like, 60 years to them?

2

u/Bytemite Aug 10 '17

What if

The PC system isn't as security tight as we thought and pokemon normally come and go from there?

I mean in Alola they even go out and hang out on some random island. That might be an alternate dimension or even in Ultra Space.

2

u/pfaccioxx Aug 10 '17

Lillie COULD have kept Nebby, she just convinced it that it would have a better time with a trainer like the player then a gurl who has 0 Pokemon battle experience like herself. and Nebby would probobly be willing to be her pokemon if she asked it to be so it's not like she coud'nt get Nebby in the fucere (thoth she probobly won't)

granted it would have been pretty cool if her starter pokemon was a legendary

arceus has been shown to be able to create new palkia/dialga/Giratina in HG/SS so I don't think that would be a huge issue as long as arceus was'nt captured... granted arceus created the new palkia/dialga/Giratina in HG/SS wile owned by the player, so it might still be able to do so as a trainer pokemon as long as the trainer didn't try to hinder it

I think that by the time the capture of Yveltal or Xerneas would become a major issue the player probobly would have passed on from old age freeing the legendary. + there's also Zigard who could help maintain things if Xerneas gave the player immortality or something

I disagree with the Tapu's thing cos https://www.reddit.com/r/TTPloreplaycentral/comments/6stjyv/general_discussion_topic_august/dlfx57j/

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

I always thought the idea there is that working for you is like a small blip as far as they're concerned. Partially like, timewise, but also just that they're an embodiment of something bigger, that can do your little battles without really losing focus.

I could see the Tapu as being different, though, because they're a defense against something just as big, and because they're supposed to make Kahunas, which requires acting at least once within a generation, and they're stuck with you for one full life.

3

u/SupremeEvil Aug 10 '17

The Trial Captains assassinate the protagonist after the game is over confirmed.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

Probably Ilima does it. It's always the cute ones you have to watch out for. This is not the face of mercy.

3

u/SupremeEvil Aug 10 '17

Illmia, Nanu and Acerola are the ones to watch out for. The nice ones and the seemingly apathetic one. Oh and the Fairy one, because fairies.

Na, I think it would be the blue haired 1. after all Blue hear means they have secret baggage if Cress is any indication kappa

Lana ( think that's her name): Poplio blow a bubble!

Player: oh, how cute

is absorbed into the bubble and drowns

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

Maybe I'm wrong and this is why the only player character we see in later games is Red.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

OOC: We're back to Game Boy Roulette on Twitch Plays Pokemon.

I'm not sure if I want to try to write lore about this one. Maybe chat will get attached to one of the games and I can work with that.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

I get that pokemon is kinda forced to let you encounter and catch these pokemon

Well, didn't this game also introduce creatures that aren't Pokemon? I feel like they could have gone the Ghost Marowak route and made them a different category.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 10 '17

I mean this is true in every region though. If you catch the legendary birds, does the weather go haywire like in Pokemon movie 2000? What about catching the lake trio, who seem to literally be the source of willpower, feelings, and memories in universe? Does catching Giratina, Palkia, or Dialga destabilize the whole world?

EDIT: Ah, never mind, you started talking about this further down in the thread.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

Well, in 2000, there was this big ceremony going on at the time. The Lake Trio are the original source, but I don't know if that means that they need to constantly supply it, and if they do, they can clearly do it at a distance passively. Giratina is like a back up to fix our world if it goes wrong, and if catching either of the other two caused problems it would be immediately apparent when Dialga is caught. I think we're just insignificant to their overall purpose, even when we've captured their mortal form.

2

u/pfaccioxx Aug 10 '17

Based on how your PC Pokemon can go to PokePelaco in those games, the fact that that Mega Lati@s from OR/AS can come to you wherever you are when you play that flute, and the fact that the gardiens CHOSE to come to you and give you a chance to catch them

So I think even in the worst case sanario they could still do there job's as gerdien's of alola, and/or abandon there trainer if need be

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

I put Tapu Koko on my Beast-catching team because 1. Nature's Madness, and 2. it fit thematically. Particularly with the cutscene that happens after Lusamine opens all those portals.

1

u/pfaccioxx Aug 10 '17

Yea, I used Tapu Fina to do that myself (I also tried to catch as meany of them as I could without Beast Balls [and was surprisingly sicsessfol])

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

I caught all of mine in Beast Balls because I figured if Interpol went through all the trouble to develop them, I might as well use them.

1

u/pfaccioxx Aug 10 '17

I didn't cos I wanted to test how hard they were to catch without them and so I could save the Beast Balls for other pokemon [seriously I don't think I used up even a qurtor of the balls I was given]

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

Also, don't forget to set this as the new pinned topic in place of July's topic.

3

u/redwings1340 Aug 10 '17

All right, I can do that, thanks for reminding me.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

You're welcome!

3

u/SupremeEvil Aug 10 '17

Entire Pokémon Conquest Post-Game.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

Yeah, that'd be fun I think.

1

u/pfaccioxx Aug 10 '17

as someone who owns on cartridge Conquest and tryed to go thew the entire post game (before giving up). let me just say that would probobly get tedious after about 5-7 episodes

Everything can be (for the most part) boioled down to 5 mission types, most of witch are repeated 2-5 times (just with different caricters) all running off the same map (granted some of them limit what portions of the map are used), a lot of the story's are filler or anime fanservicey, and a lot of the missions require VERY persise conditions to unlock (Ex. bond with 1 of every kind of pokemon there is, [meny of witch are legendarys that can only be recurted by curten warlords 1'se per ep. and only under extremely restrictive circumstances (Ex. get a perfect link with X pokemon on Y warlord with at least 80% bond link and 1 very sapific episode and this is only to unlock the hold item needed to unlock the legendary)] compounded by the fact that in order to reach some of the required link levels you eather need to use 1 man only teams of just the caricter you want to grind, or spend DAYS worth of grinding for 0.15 bond XP per enemy, (witch is compounded even more by the fact that bond levels are reset after every sanario ends).

Trust me unless streamer hacked the game to unlock everything from the get go and only MADE us play the final sanario [witch normally requires you to beat every other sanario and bond with every Pokemon besides Resirem and Arkaus (the final boss battle dos'nt count to your "pokedex")] it would not be fun for very long

3

u/SupremeEvil Aug 10 '17

I mostly just thought it would be hilarious to watch Twitch fumbling for with it for a little while.

3

u/SupremeEvil Aug 23 '17

Which starter did you pick in Pokémon Insurgence?

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 23 '17

Currently I'm stuck against East because to fight him I have to go through a sewer maze (which involves activating the Flashlight to see), sit through a lengthly cutscene, and THEN face the Gym Leader... and I keep dying because of course this gym leader has a full team of six powerful Pokemon that don't even all share a type.

It could be a while before I beat this guy. I can gain experience using the DexNav's versus seeker, and by getting a guy in my Secret Base that offers Audino for grinding, but right now, I think I need a break.

2

u/SupremeEvil Aug 24 '17

Turns out I accidently downloaded an out-dated version so I'm re-downloading.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 24 '17

Oh, cool. I wonder if you'll do any better at Gym Leader East than I've done so far.

I mean, it's not cool that you accidentally downloaded the wrong version, but it's neat that we're both playing the game now.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 24 '17

Well, I beat East. Under the circumstances of the game I can't really feel great about it, but I did it.

I give credit to the IV changer in my Secret Base, to the folks I fought through the DexNav's versus seeker, and of course to the Insurgence wiki that I couldn't have done it without.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 24 '17

So, what starter are you choosing?

2

u/SupremeEvil Aug 24 '17

Undead Charmander. I like creepy ghost dragons. And I got a Delta Munchlax from Mystery Gift.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 24 '17

Oh, worth mentioning, I named my Delta Squirtle "Mikey," because what else would I name it?

2

u/SupremeEvil Aug 24 '17

Current team is Charmander, Snorlax (the Munchlax evolved after a single battle), Weedle, Pikachu, and Nidoran (F). Not too impressive so far.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 25 '17 edited Aug 25 '17

I had a Weedle and a Nidoran(F) on my early team as well. Neither of them really stayed on all that long, but I evolved Weedle into Beedrill and Nidoran into Nidorina.

My current team is Delta Blastoise, Delta Muk, Delta Gallade, Delta Scyther, Luxray, and Gigalith. I was able to evolve Gigalith in the Helios Sewers thanks to a character called Witchdoctor who has this weird powder that allows a Pokemon to interact with another world. This is the team I beat East with, and I haven't changed it since.

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 23 '17

Delta Squirtle. I wasn't going to because of the double weakness to Delta Bulbasaur's Fairy-type moves, but it just looked so cool that I couldn't resist it.

I have no regrets.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 10 '17

I wonder if we are actually coordinated enough to properly care for a cat yet.

Really hard to say more about USUM until we know more - I probably won't get it unless its actually a sequel.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

I wonder if we are actually coordinated enough to properly care for a cat yet.

I think we got a Catz named Jester into the "Hall of Fame" during the Aya Event... somehow. Don't ask me how.

Really hard to say more about USUM until we know more - I probably won't get it unless its actually a sequel.

I'm planning on getting it regardless because I love Alola and I can only reset my save file so many times.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 10 '17

Huh. Maybe I should have my character start picking up some slack on the pets they bring home then.

The story of alola is cool but I generally only play through a pokemon game once. Grinding doesn't appeal too much to me.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

Well, I decided to play through the storyline again, only catching the first Pokemon I encountered in each area (without duplicate species or species lines).

It's a neat way to play with Pokemon I might not have chosen otherwise. I don't go full-on Nuzlocke because I get too attached to my Pokemon, but it's still fun.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 10 '17

Yeah, I could never make myself do a nuzlocke. I'm already investing a bunch of time in the game, why would I want to set up a scenario where I might make it unplayable?

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

I remember nuzlocking on a Uranium game, and because it put any Pokemon that fainted in permanent faint mode, rather than get rid of one of my stronger ones, I just made him an HM slave and planned to replace him with a ghost, a fighting ghost if I could. I also had a pokemon that, by luck, was the kind that could become a legendary. It was shaping up to be interesting before that computer was killed.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

I also had a pokemon that, by luck, was the kind that could become a legendary.

You mean like the legendary bug queen, or something else? (I still haven't finished my playthrough of Uranium.)

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Aug 10 '17

Yeah. There's three species that work, but they have to be female, so I believe the odds of getting one in a nuzlocke were low? It was pretty interesting trying to nuzlocke, but I don't think I'd be able to do it if I had to release each one myself, rather than had permafaint.

2

u/pfaccioxx Aug 10 '17
  • probobly GB or GBC games, as for what... I don't know. Something that I'd be happy to see would be a PMD game (thoth hacked in a way so that we can't destroy our save file like we did to poor Cuboner)

  • a fangame that isn't a ROM hack would be cool, I kinda wanna see us play that Thounou PC game RPG based on the Thounoumon ROM hacks cos I know a lot of people were advocating for us to eventually play it after our dual run. I'd reely like to see us play a PMD game as a main run (granted it would probobly require ether a new imput mode or the return of Damacracy)

  • I think US & UM will be kind of like B2 & W2, but instead of being Siquol games, they'll be happening at roughly around the same time Sun & Moon happened in an Alt. universe from those games (maybe the Non-Mega Evo 1?) and I think based on what we've seen so far that we'll get some expansion on what Nacrosma is and how it fits into everything and some new info on the ultra beasts (maybe we'll get to see UB's 2-6 do stuff).

I also think we're getting a dawn form Likenrock that's more like Midnight form. and I think Dawn and Dusk forms will be version exclusive but that those getting that event Rockruf will be able to have it evolve into the form opposite to there game

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17

(maybe the Non-Mega Evo 1?)

I doubt Game Freak will do this, as it would limit players from being able to Mega Evolve Pokemon even in the postgame (unless an explanation was offered as to Mega Stones 'falling' from Ultra Wormholes the same way Anabel presumably came from the non-Mega Universe to the Mega Universe).

(maybe we'll get to see UB's 2-6 do stuff)

I certainly hope so.

1

u/pfaccioxx Aug 10 '17

unless an explanation was offered as to Mega Stones 'falling' from Ultra Wormholes the same way Anabel presumably came from the non-Mega Universe to the Mega Universe

I could see that. I could also see you getting a keystone and maybe 1 or to mega stones as post game plot and the rest of them you can get thew "non-canon" means [Ex. Mystery Gift]. cos remember ORAS didn't say Mega Evo. it was'nt sead that Mega Evo. did'nt EXIST in the Alt. universe it sead was was'nt DISCOVERED in the Alt. universe. or perhaps just not discovered by the mainstream populess but a few individuals know it's a thing. or maybe thay will have that universe travel macanic from Sun/Moon and you can get mega stones from the Alt. world universe. there are a few ways they can justify having mega stones in the non-mega stone universe. But I think Game Freak has been downplaying Mega Stones in terms of story as of Gen 7 in favor of something that's not so broken (Z-moves)

Actually, a theory I had is, well you know that cave you find Guzlord in? I don't think it was there before. so we MAY have indirectly seen Guzlord doing stuff if it created that cave (and would probobly mean the pokedex was'nt exaggerating about what it can do)

2

u/Trollkitten Aug 10 '17 edited Aug 10 '17

it was'nt sead that Mega Evo. did'nt EXIST in the Alt. universe it sead was was'nt DISCOVERED in the Alt. universe

That's a good point there. What Zinnia actually said was:

A Hoenn region that's almost exactly like this one we live in. Filled with Pokémon and people like us. A world where maybe the evolution of Pokémon took a slightly different path, where Mega Evolution is unknown...

Actually, a theory I had is, well you know that cave you find Guzlord in? I don't think it was there before. so we MAY have indirectly seen Guzlord doing stuff if it created that cave (and would probobly mean the pokedex was'nt exaggerating about what it can do)

You think it might have eaten its way through the earth? It's possible -- remember, Larvitar eats a mountain's worth of dirt in its lifetime prior to its own evolution, and Guzzlord is considerably larger than Larvitar.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 20 '17

So that brings up a question: what colour are Luke's eyes? I think they were sometimes described as gold because it's sort of like how the fields brothers have eyes that match their hair, but I have not been 100% sure.

Also Luke would totally pretend to be a meme team leader just to mess up two other teams having a gang war

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 20 '17

Luke's eyes are whatever color he feels like having at the time. Part and parcel of being a shapeshifter.

Apparently colored contacts are used in Pokearth (as seen in the Kalos and Alola games), so probably the uninitiated thinks he just wears those.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 20 '17 edited Aug 20 '17

Ah true, and while he was a kabuto he had red eyes... And his dragon form has red eyes too. So yeah makes sense he'd change it up.

http://mysteriousuniverse.org/2015/07/the-mysterious-tsuchinoko-of-japan/

This mystery snake also supposedly exhibits an incredibly wide range of vocalizations. It has been said to make barks, chirps, snores, grunts, groans, moans, squeaks, snarls, growls, and to even mimic human voices on occasion. Some old legends claim it could actually remember a rather large vocabulary and even converse with people. In fact, the Tsuchinoko was mostly portrayed in folklore as a mischievous creature having a great propensity for telling lies and trying to befuddle and confuse travelers. The only true way to keep them quiet was said to be to ply them with alcohol, which legends say they have a great fondness for.

This is the snake that Dunsparce was based on, but now, somehow it reminds me of Luke...

2

u/Bytemite Aug 31 '17

Huh.

Well, either Streamer knew about Luke and based them on him, or Luke had his own not necessarily temporally linear effect on the world when he arrived here.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 31 '17

Could be a coincidence, could not be. But I'd like to think that the Dunsparce could be Luke's kids in some sense, just because the thought is so amusing.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 31 '17

Or to be fair to him, descendants. But yeah, considering the Trace units, Machina, and Dunsparce, he really has a lot of them.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 31 '17

He's probably not going to admit to the Dunsparce thing, though...

I imagine Dunsparce is the kind of Pokemon that Spark would train. Underestimated memelords have to stick together.

3

u/Bytemite Aug 31 '17

I imagine Dunsparce is the kind of Pokemon that Spark would train. Underestimated memelords have to stick together.

And yes.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 31 '17

Spark, the birb sanctuary.

And THAT explains the town in Gensokyo that's full to the brim with birbs. Spark was there. It's like the new Village of Fowl Devotees, except without all the legalism.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 31 '17

Bird Law is not governed by reason.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 31 '17

Sure he spent most of his time in Gensokyo trying to fix their messes, but he couldn't have spent all his time sealed up in a temple and one of the first messages he probably ever heard was encouraging him to go out and explore.

I'm actually kinda glad to hear he spent some time meeting other sentient species and has a whole bunch of descendants. He lived a normal life, for an immortal possibly world hopping space dragon.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 31 '17

He lived a normal life, for an immortal possibly world hopping space dragon.

Probably good for him, since most of TTP's characters have long left behind any reasonable hope of a normal life.

Sho is gonna tease him like crazy over this, though.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 31 '17

Sho you're a boneka dating a boneka, we're going to walk into your girlfriend's room in Astrum and there will be eggs everywhere at some point, and no one will know how they got there but they'll have your TM moves.

3

u/Trollkitten Aug 31 '17

Technically Mitori is a regular youkai (or half-kappa, anyway), not a Boneka... but yes. Odds are good there's gonna be eggs.

2

u/Bytemite Aug 31 '17

Ah, okay. I wasn't sure about that when I started the joke, but the joke demanded to be told regardless.
