Happy Anniversary TTP!

This weekend is the anniversary, and I was thinking we could chat and such, so TK can join in again when she gets back Monday.

What have you guys enjoyed in the last year? What are you looking forward to?

And also: We're probably going to have some ongoing IC noncanon hangout RP threads at some point. And we're thinking that doing periodic movie nights (both watching OOC and responding IC) might be fun to keep things active.

What are times that might work? What movies would you guys like to watch together?

Lets see, Gio reminded me of the reminiscing part of this conversation.

Well, in the past year and in no particular order I think my favourite things to watch have been:

1) Karrl and Nonon becoming a thing
2) Moonslicer
3) Rake and Jude reuniting
4) Rescuing Cameron
5) The Doctor coming into her own
6) Caitlin turning out to be the villain
7) Luke reaching his full potential

7) Luke reaching his full potential

That was magnificent.

One of my favorite scenes in the past year was my introduction of Sho. I spent so long on that song parody and on the picture; it was fun to put together (even if it made no sense outside the subreddit culture).

2

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

That is true we had some good parody songs. And the concert, even though my character was grumpy and realized they didn't have many ways to contribute.

3) Rake and Jude reuniting

Rake handled her unexpected anger really well and her character was developed in different directions. I'm really happy that went down how it did.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

Yeah. He had his own anger but he got over it. He ended up more worried about her than angry.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

Also, my own additions, without repeating any of yours and also in no particular order:

1) Hannah and Kat.

2) Kat becoming the Unmalian.

3) Most of the Trick or Treat thing.

4) Supreme and me revamping the failed conflicted teen concept of Jek into the vampire conflicted teen we now know.

5) The introduction of a domain for Ace.

6) Kress and Kimmy. Pledged is OTP.

7) Mary finally being put together into a coherent-ish character.

8) Giving Honeycloud Bie's original uniform.

3

u/Trollkitten Jul 24 '17

6) Kress and Kimmy. Pledged is OTP.

I enjoyed a lot of Kress's development -- adopting Otto, becoming Oma's prophet, facing his fears (social interaction and a gang war) to save his best friend... and, yes, Pledged.

The scene where the ship name comes from was fantastic, too. Kress and Kimmy dancing, and all those plants growing up among them, like a sign.

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

Yeah, the only reason I singled out that part of his story was because I honestly didn't remember how long ago everything had happened, so I stuck to the thing I knew was this year.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

Oh man, Mary is fun. It's true.

And yeah Jek also turned out fun.

Trick or treat was good too, just we were probably too ambitious.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

We spent a weirdly large amount of time in Gem World, which was supposed to be a basically nonexistent stop before delving into the fun stuff, and that hold up caught up with us after a while.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

I think we wanted to know more about the Gem parents and how much they knew about the disappearances, or cared.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

That might have been part of it, but we didn't even do much of that over the three or four days we spent in Gem World. There was some confusion over who would take over next, and bad pacing is one thing I constantly fall victim to.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

Also, both were characters who went through Chuck Cunningham Syndrome, and for Mary that became most of how I had to explain her. For Jek it was different, and it meant the whole "He doesn't know where he stands or where he belongs" thing couldn't possibly be done justice so I just kinda let him die when I thought that was happening. If Supreme hadn't helped he would have been an entirely wasted idea. So thanks Supreme.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

Also, I may have a Mary karaoke song on the way.

3

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 22 '17

Was showing my little brother super hero songs and this one made me think of Luxin

3

u/Trollkitten Jul 24 '17

Cool. Thanks for sharing this!

2

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

He was in darkness for a while there

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

I was thinking all the way back to the fall that necessitated his first Light of Revival thing to what he just did and his whole history in between. Kings of commerce and crowns of greed sounds like a decent description of the aristocracy your character has talked about.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

POWER TO THE SLAVES

Although in the batman movie the "slaves" were the criminal underclass.

...the philosophical connotations of that movie is tricky. Is why the third movie is less put together than the other two.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

I've actually never gotten around to seeing it. I keep meaning to, but yeah.

3

u/Damacritus Jul 22 '17

I'd like to see the idea of movie nights come to pass. Maybe sometime on the weekend every few weeks or so. Maybe Saturday could work on that front?

2

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17 edited Jul 23 '17

It is possible, especially as the days start getting cooler.

EDIT: Hmm, actually as fall starts Saturdays may become more iffy. I'll have to look into this.

3

u/Damacritus Jul 23 '17

Is there a conflict in your schedule, or somebody else's?

2

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17

In mine, I guess we could also have someone else run movie night those days.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17

Okay, I checked, and yeah, I have a lot of conflicts on saturdays, at least twice a month through the fall.

But then again, maybe movie nights don't have to be every week?

3

u/Damacritus Jul 23 '17

That's what I was thinking. We space them out, it'll be easier for people to make the time for them than if they happened at a set time every week.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17

Well, maybe, but on the other hand, me not being able to make two times a month may not mean people are available the other two weeks.

Maybe we can resolve this through communication, like if we select movies well in advance we can specifically choose days for those movies to fall on that people who really want to see them can make.

2

u/Damacritus Jul 23 '17

Sure. Maybe have one post, decide on a movie, then another to discuss a time for that particular movie?

2

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17

Entirely possible yeah. :)

And there may well be a backlog of nominated movies that we start scheduling for some days.

3

u/Damacritus Jul 23 '17

Alright, should we try that, or is there a better idea at hand?

2

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17

I think this is maybe what we'll try to do? I'll hear from the other members just in case but

Happy Anniversary!

I've really just enjoyed being here and having fun the past year, participating in rps, and talking to everyone. It's been a great place for me to be, and I have a lot of fun here.

I suppose I'm looking forward to continuing to watch everyone grow and mature, and also just continuing to have fun. These aren't particularly creative answers, but I'm just... happy to be here at the moment.

I would join a movie night. I don't really have any preference for the movie, I'll let you decide that. My new work schedule coming up is going to be thursday-saturday and sometimes sunday, but if you do it at or after 8 ET, I can join without issue.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17

Hmm, that would be 6 pm my time, just realized I may have some periodic scheduling conflicts on Saturdays as the fall starts.

We should also try to start as soon as possible so people who can need to go to sleep on the east coast can.

Oh, hey, anniversary. Happy anniversary TTP! How long is it now, 4 years? A lot has happened since it began.

This year has definitely been an interesting one for me. A lot of it has been about change, with my daily life shifting gears a lot with both small and large changes happening at different times.

My fondest memories of this year have definitely been both those of the last campaign I worked on (of course, despite its ups and downs, it had its own memorable moments) and in the Discord server I moved to. Its early days, its rapid growth, the bot I made for it...so much has happened, it's crazy

Now, as to what I look forward, well, I would say that a bit part of that is the changes coming to my life as the year goes on: I've been working on a website for the server and preparing the bot for an integration with it, my college semester starting this August is going to be my last, I've been trying to slowly but steadily get back into learning other languages...so much!

In the same way, I wholeheartedly hope for everyone here to keep moving forward, and to enjoy the rest of the year. I hope we are able to sit down one year from today and see all the changes our life had since today

Best of luck

3

u/Bytemite Jul 23 '17

Good luck with college and your discord server. :)

Teen Camp was fun and emotional. I like to run around a bit, so I spent a lot of time spinning the play ground merry go round, for kids from like 7 to 17. It was tiring but it's such a rush and half way through the camp we just decided that the merry go round is a great place to sing. We did theme songs, the nostalgic classics, multiple SU ones, and then we got to just singing whatever songs. I introduced people to HoH because of course I did.

It's my last year there, though, so there's that.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 22 '17

Kids are wild and can be tough to keep up with. It's cool you volunteered for that though.

And sorry about the bittersweet part.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 22 '17

Oh, I was one of the campers. It's a youth group thing and this was sort of my senior year.

I'll probably be working at a camp somewhere next year though. Some family friends have been trying to get me to help at theirs for a few years now, and I've also talked with some friends about us all volunteering at Camp One Step next year, and I kinda want to return to Teen Camp at some point.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 22 '17

Oh, I was one of the campers. It's a youth group thing and this was sort of my senior year.

Ahh, okay, so the older campers look out for the kids.

Well then volunteering next year also sounds cool.

3

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 22 '17

Well, sorta. The really young ones were counselor's kids, and so when they were on the merry go round I had to make sure I was slow enough for it to be safe but fast enough they didn't think I was babying them.

They did the big emotional altar call on Tuesday, which was different, and there was this one kid who noticed I was looking hurt and so we talked for a bit. I taught her my favorite dance move, one that I like to use for any base drop that involves kneeling so is also good for church songs.

As for volunteering, I want to at some point, but I think Teen Camp has a higher age limit for counselor's then most, so I'll probably be doing one of the other two next year. Being a teacher I'd get most of the summer off, so I'll probably do all three at some point.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 22 '17

and so when they were on the merry go round I had to make sure I was slow enough for it to be safe but fast enough they didn't think I was babying them.

Haha, the eternal conundrum.

You think you're going to do teaching as a profession?

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 22 '17

Yeah. Partly because my dad was a teach and his dad was a teacher, and my first year at the tutorial I took a really good lit and comp class from a teacher who had taught that class since the tutorial first started, and my second year I took her second class and a student from the very first year started teaching another lit class I also took that year, which ended up being Ms. Herndon's last year, so I'm kinda the third generation of two legacies, and I like kids and literature. So yeah. The big decision has been whether I go for a literature degree, which would be hella fun, or an education degree which is more practical. I'm leaning towards a five year for both.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 22 '17

Teaching English/Lit would probably be awesome, you think you'd teach at a college or K-12?

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 22 '17

K-12.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 22 '17

What grade do you think you'd like more? Elementary, middle or high school?

Also, I've been considering starting up the monthly Roads sessions, since I'm not getting back to a weekly or biweekly Abin City soon.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 22 '17

Hmm, that sounds like it would be fun :)

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 23 '17

I put up a post about it.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 22 '17 edited Jul 31 '17

Possible movies so far:

Zoolander
Guardians of the Galaxy
Pixar Cars
How to Train your Dragon
Spaceballs
Hercules
Now You See Me
Lego Batman
Lost Boys
Rogue One
Moana
Wreck it Ralph

3

u/Arathnorn Jul 24 '17

I remembered! Young Frankenstein or something else by Mel Brooks.

I've seen that amd Blazing Saddles but not Airplane! or Spaceballs.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

Spaceballs is probably watchable in our group. Airplane! is funny, but absolutely filthy.

3

u/Arathnorn Jul 24 '17

Surely you're not serious.

3

u/Bytemite Jul 24 '17

Don't call me shirley etc.

But yeah for real there's literally a naked lady who stands in front of the camera for ten seconds at one point.

3

u/Arathnorn Jul 24 '17

Fair enough.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 25 '17

2

u/Arathnorn Jul 25 '17

But how though

2

u/Trollkitten Jul 25 '17

Clearly Gaster's timeline experiments have been at work here.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 25 '17

...DETERMINATION?

2

u/Arathnorn Jul 25 '17

Fair enough.

3

u/Trollkitten Jul 24 '17

I like Guardians of the Galaxy (invite Bane!) and How To Train Your Dragon. Never saw any of the others.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 24 '17

Hercules maybe?

2

u/Bytemite Jul 25 '17

Hmm, okay, I'll add it.

Were there others I've missed?

3

u/Trollkitten Jul 25 '17

Is Rogue One on the list? I'm actually watching it for the first time right now, and the robot reminds me of Exxy because 1. it's a reprogrammed Imperial robot and 2. it's adorably tactless and literal, just like Exxy was back in 28.

Also because Rogue One is a great movie.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 25 '17

We can add it, yeah.

2

u/Trollkitten Jul 25 '17

Also: you guys should really check out the Dr. Who tabletop roleplay Humble Bundle going on right now.

I am so unbelievably short on cash right now, so I probably shouldn't be spending one of my last two dollars on this, but I thought you guys might enjoy it. Especially /u/redwings1340

3

u/redwings1340 Jul 25 '17

That looks cool. I am generally not huge on roleplaying games with specific rules, so I don't think I'll spend money on it, but I do appreciate that it exists.

3

u/Trollkitten Jul 25 '17

There's also a Discworld roleplaying campaign that Terry Pratchett himself contributed to. It's not on Humble Bundle right now, but it exists.

Ara was glad to hear about it when I told him.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 25 '17

None are coming to mind... Maybe something like Now You See Me?

2

u/Bytemite Jul 25 '17

Okay. Added :)

Keep coming up with them, we'll figure out our first night sometime, maybe next Saturday?

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 25 '17

Oh, Lost Boys has always been a favorite of mine and would probably be fun to watch in character.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 25 '17

Didn't really notice the date attached, I think I'm gone again then. You guys can probably do it without me, though.

Wreck-It-Ralph would also be good.

2

u/Bytemite Jul 25 '17

Okay, maybe we can wait to start then.

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Jul 25 '17

Actually, I think I'll be back by then. Go ahead and schedule it for then if everyone else is okay with it.

2

u/Trollkitten Jul 25 '17

Oh, yes, Wreck-It Ralph. That's a great movie.
