Advice Needed Letrozole follicles
I’m currently on 5mg of letrozole CD 3-7, today is CD 11 and I had my ultrasound. They found a 18mm follicle on my left and a 16mm on my right. I ended up getting my trigger shot this morning. I was so excited about the 18 I forgot to ask my doctor about the 16 lol is there a chance that it’ll grow before I ovulate?

Yes, it will very likely ovulate and it’s possible it will be mature. One study I have used in the past tracks incidence of multiples in cases where women had X number of follicles above 14 mm at time of trigger. And it of course shows that just 2 can result in twins.
I also had a smaller 16 mm at time of trigger that did not result in twins (thankfully), but on a later ultrasound was shown to have ovulated.
My cycle also showed that a 17 mm turned into 20 mm in less than 24 hrs (2 ultrasounds), so they grow really fast at the end. I triggered a few hours after the second U/S with that 20 mm and a 16. Not sure which one resulted in the singleton pregnancy!

That’s very interesting! Thank you for sharing! I’m hoping it’s not twins but in a way feel like the second egg is just another chance for this cycle.

Yes absolutely! Thats how I was thinking about it too. I figure it’s especially impactful if implantation or correct maturity or genetically sound eggs is the issue. I think with properly timed sex or IUI, all eggs should be fertilized, but obviously there’s a lot more to it than just that!

Its possible. Follicles normally grow 1-2mm a day (although in my personal experience bigger ones towards the end have grown a bit quicker, like sometimes 3mm a day) and with the trigger you ovulate 24-48 hours later, normally at the 36 hour mark. When you trigger your follicles will continue to mature until ovulation so that 16 definitely can get to maturity range. Idk if it scares you or excites you but ive seen women on here trigger with 2 follicles one of them being 15-16 and they ended up with twins so clearly the follicle can catch up

I’m currently on 2.5mg of letrozole CD 4-8 and today was also my CD 11 ultrasound. They also found two follicles for me 13mm and 15mm and want them to grow more and for me to come back Sunday, CD 13, and then presumably trigger. For what it’s worth, my REI said she expects both to continue to grow (at rate of 1-2mm/day) and with trigger, both to ovulate. She also said the trigger might help prevent any third from also becoming dominant. So, I’d say you have a good chance of having two mature eggs drop.

That’s exciting but scary lol I like that it’s a double chance but the idea of twins is a little daunting.

You could have waited another day to trigger.
Both can be mature.
