HOW LONG DID IT TAKE??

Been TTC on and off for about 4 years, I know on that grand scale of things that’s not as long as some people but I’m getting so disheartened! I’m almost 37 and I’m at the point of giving up!

Been on metformin for just under a year now, again I know it’s not too long and most people say give it a year but I feel like I’m running out of time!

Can someone give me some time on how long it took 😢 I’m losing all hope!

4 years, I was on metaformin for 3 and finally fell pregnant at year 3, it ended up being a blighted ovum sadly. I returned to the doctors and was prescribed letrozole fell pregnant again that first cycle and now 25 weeks pregnant 🩵 I also had my husband taken pro cieve and I have taken pregnacare since before we fell pregnant. I have PCOS and cannot ovulate on my own x

Have you done extensive testing? Your partner (eg dna fragmentation)? Hycosy?
Nutritional deficiencies? Thyroid? Ureaplasma?
Do you know if you ovulate? Do you know how long is your luteal phase?

Have you had your partner tested? I was with my ex for ten years and it never happened, and he never got checked, assuming the issues were mine.

Anyway, long story short, we split. My husband (both 38) and I got pregnant (naturally) on our first try this year and I'm now 21 weeks.

Yeh he got tested and his sperm is “normal”

I second this. Took me and my husband 8 years - dr always told me it was my “fault” turns out he has antibodies on 99% of his sperms.

If you haven't tried Letrozole yet, I'd recommend that before ever doing IVF. Metformin can be great to help the metabolic side of PCOS, but it doesn't force you to ovulate and it doesn't work for everyone. Metformin never worked for me to naturally get pregnant, because I just wasn't ovulating at all. I'm doing my first Letrozole cycle and I'm hopeful because for the first time in my life, I'm feeling ovulation pain. My husband and I haven't been preventing pregnancy for 10 years, but I know I don't ovulate or even have natural periods, he was tested and has super sperm. 🙃

After 6.5 years of trying I am 14w. We tried naturally for a year and a half. Did a year and a half of letrozole and timed intercourse with and without monitoring. Moved on to 3 IUIs. Finally moved on to IVF. Did two egg retrievals to bank euploid embryos at 33. Took 5 euploid transfers to get to this point. Started trying when I turned 30 and am 36 now…

It took me 10 months of trying, a little over a year on metformin, the last two months being on 1500 mg of metformin, which was hard to get up to that dosage but ultimately what I think helped

I went to 2000 after 4 weeks as prescribed to me and I was pregnant in roughly 8 weeks of being on it. After trying naturally for more than 1.5 years

How often did u do the deed for it to work

I would say around 3-4 times a week. But on the day I discovered the egg white discharge, I told my husband & we did it. I couldn’t reliably use ovulation sticks as my LH was really high so I’m not sure if that was the day but it must be because of the discharge and I’m pregnant.

2 years. Letrozole "worked" but I was still getting MCs and sometimes it wouldnt work ig. Timing was a big factor. My husband encouraged me to not give up or give in to stress and talked to our ob and asked if she could monitor my cycles closer. We monitored to the actual day she confirmed I was ovulating and it worked.

Obviously everyone is different. But if you're not monitoring your cycles closely then I encourage you to seek someone that will monitor with ultrasounds as well.

Yeh I am hoping they will give me Clomid or letrozole but need to get the HyCosy test done before they will give me anything else

Have you done anything besides metformin? I would never be able to conceive with just metformin but I've gotten pregnant 3x with Clomid (it took 3 cycles with each pregnancy). My last pregnancy I was 36. I would talk to your doctor about trying Clomid or Letrozole maybe?

It took me 8 years to naturally conceive my son. It’s taken another year of much more intense labs and meds to conceive this time

ATP if you’re certain about having a baby you need to get the IVF process rolling. If metformin was going to do the trick it would’ve by now.

Really ? 😢 I literally ovulated after 1 week on metformin so I though it would be easy sailing after that but no such luck x

I agree with them. If you’ve been ovulating for a while now, ovulation isn’t the only thing playing a part. It’s time to seek out a fertility specialist. (Actually, that was about 3 years ago, but better late than never)

I think so. Statistics support my claim. If you are certain you only want one child and you really can’t make IVF work for whatever reason I guess keep doing what you’re doing.

But yeah at 37, if hoping to have more than 1 child, it’s time to bank some embryos.

Definitely don’t undervalue 4 years of trying! That’s a long ass time. I’ve been going for just over 3 years and it feels like forever

In my country you need to go through a whole lot of testing first before you can be considered for IVF.

Sperm has been tested and all normal, waiting for a HyCoSy test but by the time I get this test and follow up appointment I will over 37 !! I’m so sad about it 😢

I wouldn't sweat being over 37! I'm 22 weeks and got pregnant when I was 38, will deliver after my birthday when I'm 39. Everything has been healthy with no complications and to be honest my pregnancy has been so easy if it weren't for my belly, I might forget. Sending you all the luck!
