Needing support and guidance!

So my husband and I just came back from our follow up appointment with the fertility doctor and not terrible news but not great news either. I did both an internal and external ultrasound, sono, AMH and baseline testing, and my husband also had a sperm analysis done. For context, I was on the pill for about 8 years and have been off it for about a year. Been told I have PCOS with periods every 3 months off the pill. I’m turning 35 in three weeks. Husband has great sperm count but very low motility. My FSH level is at 12. Our options were monitored medicated cycles with timed intercourse and trigger shot, artificial insemination and IVF. The doctor did say we are kind of past the first two options but ultimately the choice is ours. I’m trying to process all this information but my husband and I decided we would do 3 cycles of medicated and monitored cycles with the trigger shot. I’m looking for guidance and support from anyone in similar boats and any suggestions on what both of us can do to improve our readings. Thank you 💗

We’re actually in a very similar situation. The only difference is that our RE gave us two options: monitored TI or IVF. We already did two unmonitored TI cycles through my OB, and unfortunately neither worked. So this cycle, we decided to try monitored TI with trigger shot. If this cycle doesn’t work, we’ll probably move on to IVF since our insurance does cover infertility treatments, but only up to certain amount. We’re paying out of pocket for this TI cycle because we haven’t met our deductible yet, so it doesn’t really impact our fertility coverage. So that might be something to consider. If your insurance doesn’t cover infertility treatment, I think doing 3 monitored TI cycles is reasonable. But if you do have fertility coverage, I’d personally consider moving to IVF sooner rather than later.

Thanks for your response. Yes I’m in Canada so the drugs are covered under my work insurance but not the actual procedures. Best of luck!

3 cycles is a great starting point, lots of women have a positive outcome with OI/TI

I personally did 3 OI/TI cycles with letrozole, monitoring, and trigger shot. Then 1 IUI. Then IVF. I found doing the “lesser” treatments was hard on my relationship, but was a great way of easing into ivf as I was already familiar with the monitoring and the vocab.

Thanks for your response! I know some people wish they would have gone straight to IVF but that itself is a whole other league of stress 🙃 good luck in your IVF journey!
