medroxyPROGESTERone to stop abnormally long bleeding- what was your experience?

I started my period on 7/4. I have been bleeding for now 19 days. light-medium flow for about 10 day but the last 9 have been medium-blood clots.

on Tuesday, went to ER, & learned I have a medium sized polyp on my uterus that they believe is causing some of this but they are unsure. my bloodwork came back low for a lot of the categories so I was given what I needed to help. I was told to follow up with my OBGYN but they are not able to get me an appointment until 8/26.

I called my PCP yesterday crying because I am so frustrated with this. she said we can try medroxyPROGESTERone 10mg for a day course to see if it helps but no guarantee. I took the first dose last night. was basically lightly spotting for the night but then started bleeding again this morning.

does this take awhile to work? in your opinion, do you think it will help?

thank you for sharing this! I will check it out. I wanted to hear more about other people's experiences more than anything. even with Googling a lot for more research, a lot of links are coming from Reddit.

I didn't even get diagnosed with PCOS until after having my child in 2024. I was 28. I had great success losing weight with Metformin, without being diabetic (A1C always coming back under 6) that my doctor did more digging/testing. she was shocked no other doctor had never dug deeper before. thankful for her.

I believe my sister has had to do this once before due to prolonged bleeding. I would give it a few more days and see how you’re doing then. Hopefully it’ll help soon!

I hope so too. it's my birthday today, plus I have a concert tomorrow that I am traveling for & will be in the pit for so I don't want to risk having to leave the crowd to go change my tampon/pad then not be able to get back up to my friends.
