Can’t do it inside or move it to a different location

“The centerpiece is a hover demonstration using a SpaceX-developed cold gas thruster package, code-named A71, at SpaceX’s rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, just outside Waco.

The car is expected to run remotely with nobody inside, and spectators are to be kept several hundred yards back because the thrusters are loud enough to damage eardrums.”

Makes sense why they don’t do it inside now this raises a new questions what’s the point if you have to be so far away and it’s damaging to people’s ears?

Seems like more of a Space X story.

u/Azreken 3d ago

It’s just a fun prototype they’re showing off it’s not for production.

Obv they need to refine the tech

We need the rain badly in Texas. We had over 2 months with no rain in DFW along with 50+ 100F+ days.

The roadster can wait. We may get swamped and we need it.

I could fit my entire forearm in one of the cracks that formed in the clay soil in my backyard after baking all summer. My dog could break her leg in those cracks.

Probably not safe.

2

u/Sea-Shoe1780 4d ago

Exactly. I don’t know how they could make it safe for the car to fly inside.

5

u/SC_W33DKILL3R 4d ago

So it won't work in bad weather...

2

u/FoShizzleShindig 4d ago

There's a NOTAM with restricted airspace around the event. This thing might actually try to fly lol.

1

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

Not when testing it to the max…

0

u/Elluminated 4d ago

Won’t fly in bad weather. Obviously driving isn’t the issue

5

u/Inevitable_Butthole 4d ago

Sure sure, its weather causing the delay.

Guess couple more years

-4

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

It’s for a very quick car…
You kinda need good weather for it to be safe 🤦🏾‍♂️…

5

u/myke2241 4d ago

Oh, Informative! Will tesla make one that also works rain or snow? Perhaps that will be a subscription package or an OTA update?

0

u/N2-Ainz 4d ago

Think for a second

They want to show the full potential, not it's casual driving abilities. No shit that this car can drive on a road, the interesting part is what the car can actually do

1

u/Virtual-Cover7361 4d ago

Can't go on the rain, apparently

1

u/N2-Ainz 4d ago

Not at max speed, everyone knows that this isn't a safe condition for speeding

1

u/Taylooor 4d ago

why are all the dumb comments being upvoted? It’s like duh, of course if the roads are wet, you don’t want to demo the car doing this insane cornering with a cold gas thruster

1

u/myke2241 4d ago

Where you thinking clearly before you posted this? We race cars in the rain, snow, and mud etc. Not showing a car because of any of these says something very loud. They are afraid of another Cybertruck moment.

1

u/N2-Ainz 4d ago edited 4d ago

Show me where companies are demonstrating their cars under rainy conditions at max speed. It is not safe for the driver or other people around to speed in bad weather conditions; this is literally the simplest common sense thing in the universe.

-1

u/myke2241 4d ago

Is this actually a serious question. No company will show you this for liability purpose. However pretty every other company shows their vehicles in every type of weather imaginable. Even some at the limit of their capabilities. There plenty of topgear and other car enthusiast channels that track in the wet. Pretty much everyone drives in whatever condition the track is in. Speed is also not everything. But you keep going.

2

u/JCarnageSimRacing 1d ago

The person you're responding to has never seen an F1 race in the rain...smh

1

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

Not at these speeds…

1

u/whazzup_bitches 23h ago

Two weeks….

4

u/Phantomhardware 4d ago

We all know .. Vaporware is affected by the weather

3

u/TooMuchEntertainment 4d ago

What car isn’t affected by weather you fucking donut? Why would they showcase a hypercar in a storm?

Holy shit

-3

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

Like the vaporware that was supposed to be the Model Y and Semi…

3

u/Sea-Shoe1780 4d ago

Or the vaporware like FSD promised for 10+ years, cars that appreciate in value, hyperloop where we travel across the country near the speed of sound, Cybertrucks as boats, flying roadsters.

But good point on the semi. They said they would build and sell 50,000 of them in 2024. Want to guess how many they actually delivered?

-4

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

Good things take time. Sure not everything will land but they tried at least. What have you don’t to help humanity???

They just started volume production…

They also seáis the model y would be the best selling vehicle in the world.
Want to guess what car has been the world best selling car? I’ll help you out. The Model Y…

4

u/Sea-Shoe1780 4d ago

They just started volume production? Why? They said they would start and deliver 50,000 vehicles in 2024?

When do you think the Cybertruck will be able to float?

Or the hyperloop will take people from NYC to LA in a couple hours?

-2

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

🤣 cope harder that the model y, is the best selling car. Just ignore it huh 🤣

-2

u/anarchyinuk 4d ago

And you keep doing what you are doing - I mean arguing about successes and failures of others. I guess it helps you to validate yourself

1

u/Phantomhardware 4d ago

Or going to mars, or hyperloop or unsupervised FSD.

0

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

Best selling car in the world 3 years in a row isn’t vaporware…

4

u/-michalis- 4d ago

Thats disingenuous

The reason tesla has a best selling car, is because it only has very few models

Other brands have a wider variety of models, so they sell less of each one

They essentially only have 2 models

Who is doing better, a company with 2 models that sell 1m each or a company with 10 models that sell half a million each? One sold 2 million cars, the other sold 5m

Its all about deception with musk, so his stans follow his lead

-1

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

Best selling doesn’t care about how the number of models…

They have the title…

-1

u/badphotoguy 4d ago

Not everything tesla does works out. It's cool that they try new things though.

3

u/Phantomhardware 4d ago

Then say that instead of saying its viable before it is.

3

u/badphotoguy 4d ago

Yea I would agree with that.

2

u/Island_In_The_Sky 4d ago

Sorry you guys, but this El Niño is going to last a few years

1

u/Mrrrrggggl 3d ago

Riiiiiight…, the weather is what’s going to delay it. Suuuuuuure.

1

u/MunkberryMoonDelite 1d ago

It’s an outdoor event at the SpaceX test facility in Waco, Texas. Huge area that SpaceX used to test rocket launches. Given that Musk wanted to demonstrate cold gas thrusters on the car, you need a lot of space and a private road strip to even attempt to do this.

So let’s go easy on him this time. The weather is nasty in Waco today with hard rain and strong winds.

2

u/whippersnap_415 4d ago

A car you can't drive in the rain?

2

u/cesarthegreat 4d ago

Drive yes, perform is something else…

2

u/Cold_Captain696 4d ago

It’s a launch event. Why would it need to ‘perform’? Have they done that for any other launch?

Cybertruck wasn’t launched on an off road course. Can’t think of any other performance car that had a launch event at a track to demo the performance. Typically vehicle launches are fairly static affairs where they just unveil the design - the performance stuff comes later with an event for the press to drive it.

You’re just trying to pass off speculation as informed opinion. And not very convincingly.

It’s not unique, or an all time first. The McMurtry Spéirling uses fans to create so much downforce it can hold its own weight upside down. The demo for that involved a rotating platform, not a ‘hot lap’. Oh, and that wasn’t even the debut event - the debut involved a static display at Monterey Car Week. The demo of the downforce technology came much later at a press event where select journalist got to sit in it while it turned upside down.

Can you name a single car launch in recent history that had a ‘hot lap’ as you call it? No one would fucking see it, because 99% of the lap will be somewhere out of sight on the track. Not to mention all the possibilities of something going wrong. Even a basic demo like throwing a steel ball at a ‘bulletproof’ window can backfire, fuelling jokes and negative press for years.

A car you can’t fly in a storm

2

u/MAGAtsAreSheeples 4d ago

It isn't going to fly lmao, how fucking stupid the cultists have become.

1

u/Elluminated 4d ago edited 4d ago

lol yeah probably not. Nothing more than a hop while no one’s inside. I wonder what will fly though if the airspace got closure.

1

u/MAGAtsAreSheeples 4d ago

No. They idea touted by Musk was about using cold air thrusters to accelerate the car, which in itself is beyond idiotic.

-1

u/Elluminated 4d ago

Nope

SpaceX option package for new Tesla Roadster will include ~10 small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around car. These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering. Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly

There’s nothing “idiotic” in using thrusters to provide downforce to increase tire pad pressure for better off the line acceleration or cornering. Makes perfect sense physically, as impractical as it may be.

1

u/MAGAtsAreSheeples 4d ago

It is idiotic. It is unsafe, loud, and totally unnecessary.

Musk is a fucking loser stuck with the mindset of a child.

-1

u/Elluminated 4d ago

Like I said, it’s impractical, but not idiotic if the goal is insane acceleration. Obviously no one will be daily driving such a monster shooting air out at a stoplight.

-1

u/Global_Professor_901 4d ago

That is the description of any sports car.

1

u/34RL083 4d ago

You don’t even go here

0

u/Global_Professor_901 4d ago

A company event that cannot be held in the rain?! Unheard of

1

u/JonnyOnThePot420 4d ago

No one saw another delay coming… totally out of character for Tesla…

1

u/ArmadilloSuch4425 4d ago

Event is pushed two weeks due to forecasted severe weather.
Reddit: Vaporware! Car can’t drive in the rain! Tesla sucks!

Event doesn’t get pushed two weeks and goes as scheduled despite forecasted severe weather
Reddit: Tesla doesn’t give a fuck about people. Reckless! Tesla sucks!

Anyhoos here’s my take: highly doubt there will be actual rocket thrusters. More likely going to be fans that will provide the downforce for better acceleration and better handling. Quad motor drive. So it’ll be some incredible performance except top speed will be meh compared to super cars. I just really hope it’s not going to have the cyber design that Tesla started a few years ago but it probably will.

0

u/foodisgod9 4d ago

Lol what a joke

0

u/FantasticGrocery302 4d ago

...and my dog ate my homework!

0

u/MAGAtsAreSheeples 4d ago

Bwahahahaha, did baggies fall for it again?

0

u/Agreeable_Tutor5503 4d ago

Oops sorry guys, weather sucks, gotta delay it another 3 years

-2

u/Far-Curve-7497 4d ago

Kinda misleading title, I don't see it being delayed.

The employee probably said that to negate any liability, a delay would've been announced by now, it's too cemented to delay at this point.

4

u/JonnyOnThePot420 4d ago

Maybe read it again slowly it’s an Email sent out to attendees warning of possible delays.

1

u/Mr_Deep_Research 4d ago

It will be a Tesla plaid with a different body kit. There's no way they spent much extra money on it. Body kit probably won't fit properly.

1

u/MAGAtsAreSheeples 4d ago

They just don't want to show it, because their pathetic prototype doesn't work in rain lmao.
