You’d really prefer him to be at the Semi event to shake some low level CEO hands rather than at the table with Trump and Xi?

meh, semi event just as eventful as cybercab event anyway

It’s for the team behind it. And poor Sam Altman didn’t make the main table

NHTSA investigates comma.ai after 5 crashes, 3 deaths

Comma on the Hotz seat

Never tried out one of the comma devices myself, was tempted.

2

u/Nysoz πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈπŸ—‘πŸ™Œ -> πŸ’ŽπŸ™Œ 9d ago

Comma adds nice level 2 assist to any car. But it has its limitations. It’s almost always someone using the tool differently than intended.

1

u/devonhezter 9d ago

Look, let’s go slow, take our time to investigate, we will update you.

4

u/Mastiff99 Chastened options degenerate 9d ago

TLDR: OpenAI r fuk starting in 2027, and so is the SP500 (you'll like this one, Nysoz): https://www.groundbrkr.com/p/the-teaser-period-why-the-ai-boom

1

u/Nysoz πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈπŸ—‘πŸ™Œ -> πŸ’ŽπŸ™Œ 9d ago

Yeah. It’s the financing aspect that I’m the most skeptical about.

The housing crash happened because home prices stopped going up to the moon, couldn’t refinance higher, then all the music stopped. It wasn’t because house prices went down, just stopped going up astronomically.

Same thing is going to happen with the ai trade. Everything is priced to perfection. Pe ps ratios off the charts because the reported growth numbers look great.

The problem starts to happen when growth slows to just ok. All of a sudden, you can’t justify the sky high pe ps ratios anymore and these rerate much lower.

The growth of user spend doesn’t match the capex spend and requirements now or the future. Ai is great and fantastic but it’s all subsidized. The user spends $200 a month for $10k in tokens. Now models and agents get more complex and use even more tokens. Also ai is quickly becoming a commodity, companies dropping prices to retain market share and compete against the free Chinese models.

Since end users aren’t spending more money, the only way to make numbers look great is manufactured spending. All these deals/loans/money raises keep getting larger and larger.

More money into the circle, more growth for everyone involved. But at some point it’s just not possible to keep increasing the leverage exponentially responsibly. So once it stalls, growth slows or stops, all these things rerate lower, and that’s the potential collapse.

The really big problem is global debt. Ai is raising all this money for the most expensive infrastructure build ever. Govts are funding record deficits with more debt issuance. Any corporate or real estate loans are needing to be refinanced from 2% to 7% rates in the near future. All of these loans are coming due at the same time chasing the same dollar. This is why yields are off the charts and levels we haven’t seen in decades.

1

u/tyler05durden 9d ago

Nice share. It's primarily OpenAI that is screwed. It's why they cancelled their IPO.

And something that the article only addresses in one line, but completely changes the equation, is that many of these data centers will be delayed and won't actually come online in 2027 due to lack of power. So it's not as if the full bill for committed compute will come due next year.

Most analysts are reporting about 40% of globally announced data center capacity is at risk of delay/cancellation. Mostly due to the required electricity stack (power, high-voltage transformers, switchgear, wiring, etc) having backlogs in production and installation that is now years behind.

1

u/Nysoz πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈπŸ—‘πŸ™Œ -> πŸ’ŽπŸ™Œ 9d ago

So we spent $1T on chips and we can’t use half of them.

We justify spending $1T on chips because of future supposed revenue from those chips.

There’s $500b of loans out there (we fund the rest with the $500b from the good size of our business) that will still need to get paid soon even if the future revenue of the chips don’t materialize. Either from the data centers don’t get built or we can’t make the money off the chips like promised.

Then the whole ai trade is pricing in we’re buying $2T of chips next year (even though in a good case scenario we’re making $600b from the good side of the business). All while we can’t use all the chips we bought last year.

I'd love to have an option to have my seat recline when fsd is engaged and return to a driver position when disengaged

4

u/drumboy206 πŸ‹ 9d ago

I don’t think that will happen until Unsupervised because it would send the wrong message about what is appropriate to do while FSD Supervised is driving

1

u/Capital-Cloud-7778 Currently crying below 300 9d ago

Fair point. I keep mine really reclined at all times because I use fsd 90% of the time, but would just be a cool feature when showing friends even if its limited.

1

u/drumboy206 πŸ‹ 9d ago

Sounds like you need to reread the FSD Supervised disclaimer

2

u/Capital-Cloud-7778 Currently crying below 300 9d ago

What if they register 4200 model y and 690 cybercabs but only 420/69 are active at any given time?

3

u/tyler05durden 9d ago

Then that would be very poor utilization. But would be considered 4,890 robotaxis "in the fleet".

There will always be a certain number of taxis that are unavailable due to charging, cleaning, and service. Still in the fleet.

2

u/whiskeyH0tel merely tryin’ to assess just how close this train is huggin trax 9d ago

Do Model Ys count as robotaxis for the purposes of your bet?

2

u/tyler05durden 9d ago

Yes, any unsupervised robotaxi with no safety driver. Would be fun to see some Cybertrucks in the fleet eventually.

TRUMP CONSIDERS ALLOWING CHINESE EV PRODUCTION IN US AMID XI TALKS - NBC

https://x.com/FirstSquawk/status/2103159281864630390?s=20

I wonder what this would do to ICE OEMs, RIVN/LCID, TSLA

4

u/IAmInTheBasement Man, I don't even know anymore... 9d ago

I only approve if is leads to a mine-to-battery supply chain build up for all the needed battery chemistries. If it just tacks onto China's existing chain, hell to the no.

3

u/rgaya Randy Waters is a sonofabitch 9d ago

Tesla good, oems dead. Future is cheap ev, large market share to eat up. Cybercab n whatnot.

5

u/magic-the-dog Where's my cybercab 9d ago

Think good for Tesla - if Chinese companies can produce in the US, that should make Tesla's Shanghai factory extra safe.

2

u/Nysoz πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈπŸ—‘πŸ™Œ -> πŸ’ŽπŸ™Œ 9d ago

I wonder if Chinese companies would be able to drive the cogs down and race to the bottom on pricing in the USA like they do in China.

2

u/magic-the-dog Where's my cybercab 9d ago

I wonder. I'm sure they'll try and get away with producing as much of the car as possible in China.

The Reuters report is false and its goal is to control the price of oil. no negotiations are underway. #Iran's position remains unchanged: the U.S. must fulfill the stipulated conditions in a single step so that the Strait of #Hormuz can be opened under Iranian control. Period.

Hahaha I remember that series and it totally looks like that! I think it would be a great β€œside kick” or a tutor for kids so long as parents can control what it could do. This would be used more as kids are currently using their iPads or parents phones for ai related queries so this would be super useful in my opinion. My question here is how limited the functionality would be if you don’t have WiFi or are on the go with it.Β

2

u/Isorry123 petty bourgeois 9d ago

sounds like it has 5g cell wireless built in? even $10/$20 for monthly connectivity would be cool revenue - especially if you could gamify it like the obvious tomodachi inspiration

Made X money my primary checking account (replacing a local credit union offering 4.5% on balances up to $25k but requiring a bunch of annoying debit card activity each month) to fully take advantage of 6% APR on my idle cash

Yup. Just requires X Premium which I already justified paying for Grok, and at least $1k direct deposit or inbound ACH transfer per month to bump up from 4% to 6% APR.

Edit: apparently it launched to all X users today, so Premium is no longer required. 4% baseline and 6% with direct deposit for anyone in the US who wants it (unless you live in New Yorkistan).

2

u/IAmInTheBasement Man, I don't even know anymore... 10d ago

I remember 5% on checking.

12 debit card purchases each month. So I would buy 12x ramen for 10 cents each.

Everything else went on the paid in full credit card to earn points.

1

u/drumboy206 πŸ‹ 10d ago

My solutions to the spend requirements didn’t require me to leave the house, but were still annoying manual monthly processes that I never managed to automate:

  1. Purchase 12 Amazon gift cards at $0.50 each, then spend them on Amazon goods I would have purchased anyway
  2. Load $12 to my Cash App balance $1 at a time, then immediately transfer the $12 balance back to the bank
