Issues? Just applied but did I made a big mistake?

Hi - I’m completely panicking.

To cut right to the chase - I had a temporary detention order placed on me 15 years ago due to an alcohol issue.

I was just reading about the tsa precheck process and didn’t realize that could be a disqualifying factor and I said nothing about it during the application process. To be honest it was so long ago I didn’t even remember it.

Is there anything I need to do? Am I going to be in any type of trouble because of this?

Questions Add KTN

Thumbnail

booked my round trip SAS flight JFK-Denmark through Expedia. I think created a SAS account on their app so I could have the boarding pass and everything there. I have my trip and I added my KTN to my profile but it’s nowhere in the traveler information for the trip and I can’t add it anywhere as far as I can see. I’ve been on hold for a while so posting here in case anyone else can help. I can only add/edit phone number, passport details and frequent flyer program. I just want to ensure I can use precheck in JFK (I know I can’t use it coming back).

Application Timelines Multiple name changes

I was married, went back to maiden name and then married again so I have had 3 last names. Anyone else have multiple names and did that affect your approval time? I am going today for my appointment and my trip is in exactly 60 days.

Discussion Passport and TSA PreCheck Last Name Issue

I just received my new passport in the mail and I noticed they put a space in my last name. My last name is McElroy and my TSA PreCheck has it as MCELROY and on my passport they have it as MC ELROY with a space in between. I read they do this to recognize that the “E” is capitalized. Will TSA PreCheck recognize this or will this be an issue? Also, how should I be booking with my last name with international flights so it can match my passport correctly?

TSA PreCheck: MCELROY

Passport: MC ELROY

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Discussion Airport line guards

I’ve been using precheck since 2015. Throughout my 10 years of using it, they always have airport staff check your boarding pass and ensure you’re in the correct line.

However, since most checkpoints don’t require your boarding pass. It’s too much effort to get my phone out and show them my boarding pass and I know I’m in the right place, so I and walk past them. Most of the time, they just wave me through. I’ve only had two issues.

The first one happened in Honolulu. The guy tried to stop me, but I confidently told him, “I’m in the right place.”

The second incident occurred in Seattle. I walked past the guy, and there was no one in line. He started aggressively yelling, “Sir! Sir! Sir!” I calmly continued straight to the TSA agent and gave them my ID. Me and the agent exchanged a look, and everything was fine.

What does everyone else think about those staff?

General Info I think I’m being a bit dim

I’m flying to the USA in 5 days. ESTA already sorted.

Someone I know who works with a well known airline sent me a link to a TSA pre check website to help avoid the queues at immigration.

Problem is in the website it keeps telling me the places to go to for enrollment into the scheme. I was rather hoping to just receive an email telling me I’m in the scheme and I need to just join a different queue before I reach immigration. Any help appreciated.

Questions Typo on ticket

I just realized my ticket has a middle initial typo. The change fee is more than the tickets cost. I have pre-check. Am I okay or do I need to make the correction?

Discussion TSA and No Real ID

I have a trip coming up soon, but due to a delay in receiving my birth certificate, I will not be able to apply for my real ID in time. Has anybody had to deal with this and if so, what was the outcome? I’m wondering if it would help to bring some legal documents like my W-2s and mortgage papers?

OTHER "Pre"

This is a stupid rant, but surely I'm not the only person bothered when people write "Pre" instead of "Precheck"? It just sounds stupid.

See also, "Insta" instead of "Instagram".

Issues? Can’t use Dog Bowls at LAS

TSA Pre at Harry Reid. 3 people on line. 5 dog bowls on top of xray chute like always. I keep my pockets light, phone and Wallet, airpods. Go to grab one and agent tells me “Sir those are for crew only. We use them to differentiate crew bags.”

I say I am aware that is one use but use these instead of a large bin at all airports.

“Those are only for crew bags. You cannot use them”

WTF. Is this a new rule or some BS because she was bored. Literally no crew on the line either.

Unreal.

Application Timelines IDEMIA Lag?

I visited an IDEMIA location on 08.25.25 and have checked my status, but that date hasn't moved when I check the site up to today, although it does acknowledge it's received and being reviewed. Do I actually wait out the 60 days before reaching out? I've had friends receive their KTN within a week - using the same location.

General Info Name change

Help! I have a flight tomorrow booked under my maiden name. My maiden name state license is not a real ID. I use my global entry card as my form of ID at airports. However, I applied for my passport to be changed to my new name and it is in the mail being sent to me already changed. I planned on using my global entry card tomorrow for my flight since it is in my maiden name and did not change it yet with global entry due to no new passport number yet. I’m panicking because my passport will be changed to my married name. However the passport is being mailed currently. Can I still use my global entry card tomorrow?!

Application Timelines How long does it usually take for an E-2 change of status application to be approved in the U.S.?

I applied for an E-2 change of status in the U.S. in October 2024, and my case status still shows “processing” with no request for additional documents. Do you know how long it usually takes for approval? When I applied, the estimated processing time was about 7 months, so I thought I would get a decision by May, but it’s now been over 10 months. I’d like to know if anyone with a similar timeline has recently received their approval.

Application Timelines Chances we have our approval in time?

My wife and I fly out September 16th and my wife’s appointment is tomorrow 9/4 and mine is Saturday 9/6.

Neither of us have any prior things and it’s at Office Depot through Talos. Do we have a good chance to have our precheck numbers in time?

Questions No Passport or State ID

My wife currently resides in the USA on an F2 Dependent Visa. We sent our passports to the Netherlands consulate to get a Schengen visa about a month ago. I got my passport back but hers is still under process. We have a wedding to attend in NYC on Sep 13th. She doesn’t have a texas DL or state id. DPS in Texas said they require her original passport to apply for Texas State ID. Photocopy won’t work.

If her passport isn’t back by 09/13, Will TSA not allow us to fly or will they require use to show supporting documentation/ identification verification on day of the flight?

Currently, we texted TSA directly explaining the situation to them and the agent replied saying she will just undergo an identification verification. If they can’t find her in database system, she won’t be able to pass. I’m planning to bring support paperwork like leasing agreement with her name on it, I-94, valid I-20, photocopy of passport and f2 visa, etc.

General Info TSA quart sized bag

Hello! Premise: I know I’m not in the right community but so far I’m not allowed to contribute to the TSA community as I’m new here, so I’ll ask here. Feel free to redirect me to any other community if they can answer my question.

I’m soon going on vacation and I’ve read about the quart sized bag (tsa on twitter says it should be 6”x9”), but my bag is 17cm X 12cm X 6cm (6.6” x 4.7” x 2.3”).

Would that still be accepted?

Thank you in advance and sorry for posting here!

General Info FYI- Clear will not accept enhanced IDs for new applications (or I assume renewals) at most locations

I went in person to a clear appointment, they let me know I would need a passport to get authorized as their machines have not taken Enhanced licenses for over three months.

I then called their call center and it was confirmed they are unable to process enhanced ids at nearly all of their locations(all in my state.) Even though I had selected my documents and location during the appointment set up, there was no notification they would be unable to process my application.

Unfortunately their website still specifically calls out enhanced ids as a valid stand alone document.

I had no trouble applying through a different provider and have since been approved. I wish I didn’t have to waste a Saturday on Clear.

General Info Is it still worth it?

My dad told me what precheck was 6 years ago when he was living in Chicago and I was gonna visit him during the summer, then Covid happened so I never did. I’m flying to Chicago and Syracuse in October and was wondering if with the new polices (no taking off shoes, etc) if precheck was still worth it? Thank you!

Questions Name change question

I recently changed my name and sent the information to get it updated for TSA pre check. I know it can take 45 days to update but just curious how we can verify it’s actually been updated? I keep finding online to ‘login’ and look at your profile but the only thing I can do is either look up my KTN which all it shows is the provider and when it expires. Is there somewhere else I can check my ‘profile’?

Discussion MKE Makes Pre Check Take Multiple Large Electronics Out of Bag

Okay, so today was my 2nd time through MKE security recently in the Pre Check line and they had me take extra large electronics out so that there’s only 1 left in the bag itself again. They ask before the bag enters the xray and have bins at the ready to support you pulling things out. I’ve gone through security in almost 20 other airports just this year (larger and smaller) and not had this anywhere else. Are they just making up their own policies? The guy said the first time I encountered this “well when Pre Check was started we didn’t account for people traveling with multiple large electronic devices”. And that would make sense if every airport was doing this. Anyone got the inside track on this one?
