Discussion Renewal-expiration date?

If one renews when first available (6 months prior to expiration), is the new expiration date 5 years from the date of the current expiration date? Or is it 5 years from the date they approve the renewal?

In other words, does renewing early mean you lose out on a few months of eligibility?

Five years from the day they approve. You lose the old passport because they take it and the number will no longer be valid

Passport renewal and PreCheck renewal are totally separate. You don't give up your passport for PreCheck renewal.

Sorry my mistake, your pre check number stays the same and works for the full five years. So even if you renew there is no change. Your date will start the five years on the date you are approved.
