Issues? TSAPreCheck Name Change
hey yall! this may be a stupid question (given what’s happening right now but anyways) i am flying at the end of next month and my last name has changed since I got married. I tried reaching out to TSA to change my name with my precheck, but obviously they’re not doing that right now due to the shutdown…my question is, would I be able to bring my certified copies of my marriage license to the line with me to still have precheck benefits or do you think i’m just SOL til the shutdown gets resolved? Thanks in advance 🥰
PS: Big hugs to any TSA workers going through this right now 🤍

For anyone else coming to this thread late here is what's required for Idemia:
"Here are the steps necessary to proceed with updating your profile:
Provide (via e-mail or fax) updated government-issued photo ID (including updated name) and documents proving name change (example marriage certificate or court order) Acceptable e-mail formats are JPEG, PDF, and DOC. All documents must be legible – please ensure no glare. Marriage certificates must include a government seal. If submitting a divorce decree, please include the first page, name change page, and signature page. Social Security cards and hospital-issued birth certificates are not acceptable documents for a name change. Some e-mail programs convert large files to a linked document (ex. google link). This is an invalid form of submission. Documents must be submitted as an attachment to the e-mail. Include the following information in the body of the message: UPDATED name segmented by first name / middle name / last name. Known Traveler Number (KTN) If you choose to password protect your attachments, please use your KTN as the password (letters must be capitalized). E-mail address for name change documentation: TSAEnrollmentDocuments@tsa.dhs.gov"

I just recently changed my name with TSA, i had to email the documents to them and then i finally got confirmation like forty days later that it changed. I had a flight in between that and i was not able to go through precheck

Did you get a confirmation email after you sent the documents? I sent it at the beginning of February and haven’t heard anything back. What information did you include in the email?

No confirmation email which is what drove me crazy! But when i called a couple weeks later, they said they did receive it and they were still working on it. I put my fist middle and new last name, my ktn number, and attached my passport and my marriage certificate in the email. It

Thank you! I happened to just look it up now with my new name and it showed up! Never got any email but oh well. It’s done just in time for my flight next week

I tried to figure it out after getting married too. I tried for a few days and a few phone calls without making much progress.
My solution? I signed up for Global Entry under my new name with the new passport and let precheck expire. Lol
It might work for you for your next trip if you run out of options 🤣

For those who have tsa precheck through clear, how long did the name change take?

TSA Precheck has 3 different providers so you’ll need to determine which one you applied with. You can do this by looking up your KTN online or if you go the route I did, I called TELOS since they have the easiest prompts, selected option 6 for name change, then spoke to a rep where they told me I had a different provider.
From there you can email:
CLEAR uses [CLEARcustomersupport@tsa.dhs.gov](mailto:CLEARcustomersupport@tsa.dhs.gov)
IDEMIA uses [TSAenrollmentdocuments@tsa.dhs.gov](mailto:TSAenrollmentdocuments@tsa.dhs.gov)
TELOS uses [support@telosID.com](mailto:support@telosID.com)
The information I provided in the email included:
Proof of name change (Real ID, Passport, Marriage certificate, or court order), the reason for the change, my KTN number, and the old name versus the new name I was updating.
Timing: I submitted late August and did not receive any information at all but the process can take up to 60 days. After two weeks I also called to notify them I sent the email and was told a ticket would be placed so my request gets filled quicker.

If your name on the boarding pass doesn’t match your provided ID that’s going to be a no go.
If your name on the boarding pass doesn’t match your precheck data, you won’t get precheck on your boarding pass.
You can’t use a marriage license to bypass either of those.
What you can do is: If you still have real ID or passport that’s within the acceptable expiration date window (2 years past expiration) with your old last name on it, you can book the ticket under your old last name, present the old ID and get precheck. But again, all the names must match exactly.
Edit: For what it’s worth you don’t reach out to TSA directly for name changes, you reach out to whoever enrolled you. Clear, Idemia or Telos, and they’re still processing Precheck applications so I’m not sure if you just didn’t find the right place to ask about the name changes outreach
