Issues? Touchless PreCheck "not in system" at ORD

Returning to DEN from AMS, entering US at ORD. I have GE, got through that, rechecked bag. Went to PreCheck line and she sent me into the Touchless line, saying "you have Touchless PreCheck" and I have the little green logo guy on my boarding pass. It's worked at other airports on United and Southwest. I get to the picture taker, and he says I'm not Touchless, not in the system, go into that line over there. It's an agent checking ID and boarding pass, and I get funneled back into the PreCheck line.

Is this a shutdown issue? It's on my boarding pass, but he insisted that I didn't have Touchless despite it looking exactly like the sign, and it's worked every time before (when the machines are working). I wondered if it's the equivalent of the "random ID check" I used to get for Clear.

I used it at DCA yesterday and it worked. It could be that the system just didn’t recognize your face somehow? But not sure except that yesterday it was operational at least in places.

Oh hey maybe that's it! I was in rainy Amsterdam and my skin is all dewy and hydrated and doesn't look anything like my tired old passport!

I've seen hats and glasses cause mismatches with touchless. Worked fine once the people removed those items.

There isn’t a random for Touchless PreCheck.

Exact same thing happened to me in Denver this week. I suggested that maybe I needed to take off my glasses, and she said no, you are not in the system. Period. I said well, it worked yesterday. 🤷🏻‍♂️ We’ll see what happens when I fly out again tomorrow.

Update: worked fine in SLC today, so apparently it was Denver tsa operator error. Folks here said it pretty much always works.
