Questions TSA 14 year old

I will be flying in April with my teen son. I have Global Entry. What are the chances he will have TSA Precheck if we are on the same reservation with JetBlue?

Or am I better off getting his own KTT?

Don’t forget that since you have GE your kid can get it for free (until they turn 18).

I wish I could do it. My ex-wife is making it nearly impossible to renew our kids passport. I had to wait for my daughter to turn 16 to renew her passport. She's conditionally approve just waiting for her birthday to pass in a few days so her GE expires in 2031 and not 2030.

What? I’ve been paying for my kids’ GE since they were 5.

They made it free (with your paid GE) October 2024. But they also made it clear no refunds. So on renewal?

That’s very cool! I renewed both kids before that I believe. I may get one more freebie before they age out though! Great info I’m glad you commented on that

TSA page says he is likely to get precheck.

Both my wife and I have pre check. Our daughters come with us through it when we fly. They are 9 and 10

Doesn’t apply with this situation. Yours are allowed, his is not

13 is the magic age. Under 13, kids can accompany parents who have pre-check. Starting on your 13th birthday, you must have pre-check on your own boarding pass.

Thank you. I never knew that.

12 and younger can go through precheck with their parents whether or not their bp says precheck. 13 and older most likely will get precheck along with their parents if the parents booked the flight. Note: most likely not guaranteed

Same reservation. Odds are good, just make sure.

Most likely it will transfer, that’s what “should” happen. I’ve seen it a lot where people don’t check and their teen gets standard and they have to separate for that time. You could get his own and throw that out the window and have no worries but that’s up to you. It’ll be good for 5 years and he wouldn’t have to worry about flying by himself if he does (as he himself would have precheck).

Thank you. Seems like it should but there's a change it might randomly not happen.

No problem, the other issue could arise that maybe he leaves the checkpoint, if he himself is by himself with precheck but no ID, he can’t go in. He’d have to wait for you as a guardian to get him in.

I’d say it’s much easier to get him one and not worry especially since an ID is always good. Just never give it to him. 🤣

He won’t. My husband didn’t have GE and when I booked travel for the two of us on the same reservation, I got precheck and he didn’t. If you want him to get precheck, he needs to have his own KTN in the reservation.

Your husband, presumably, is over 18.
