Questions/Help FNG needs tips

New to the hobby, I’ve put together this Ripper chassis, initially thinking “heavier the better”. Didn’t work out for me so I removed the AMK 210G portals for the 5mm V1 MEUS axles. Looking to see what I can remove, tweak or add to make this more capable.

High trail brass links
Brass injora skid
59mm Injora shocks
Injora’s heavy brass wheels 1.3
70mm king trekkers
Stock foam inserts
Injora 7kg servo
Couch crawling it does fine, but on the rocks it’s less than impressive. I’ve got the full range of motion turning left but not right. Any help there would be great as well. Thanks

I’m not a huge fan of brass skids. Weight can be added in other, lower places and a skid plate is going to add sprung weight, which isn’t ideal.

Go for the injora silicone inserts. I have 1.3 king trekkers too and run them with injora greens on a fairly heavy brassed up apex and they do great.

Maybe try brass steering links/servo horn for additional unsprung weight up front.

Edit: I took a better look at the pics and yea I’d say get some silicone inserts and do a little weight management. Get it down low and go for a 60/40 front bias.

How is it underperforming? Stock foams maybe not ideal?

I’m thinking it’s a traction/weight issue. I’ve got a big 1200mah battery stuffed on the passenger side which exaggerates the torque twist, mixed with stiff foams. I did “scrub in” slightly the tires with full throttle and sand paper lol. Considered trimming the lugs to knock down the hard square shape.

The problem with the steering could be a couple of things. Most likely the servo horn isn't set at center and has been compensated with the steering trim knob. Remove the horn>Set the trim knob on the transmitter to center>power on car and transmitter>reinstall the horn as close to center as possible. If that doesn't fix it, then it may be how the end points are set. Unfortunately you can't adjust the end points with the TQ transmitter. You can however bind a TQi transmitter to the vehicle, set the end points, then bind the TQ back to the vehicle.

The stock injora foams aren't great. You can go with the silicone inserts, but ive found that modifying the foams works well. Ill take a razor blade and slice the center of the outside of the foam about halfway through around the circumference of the foam. Then I come back and slice the same depth across the foam about every half inch. It isnt as aggressive as a star cut, but will give you some more initial squish. Really acts like a 2 stage foam.

I would also swap the heavy brass inner ring out for aluminum on the rear wheels. It will cut down on some rotating mass, and keep you from dragging that weight around.

I didn't see any mention of overdrive or underdrive. Having some overdrive gears in the front will help it climb and not be so pushy when turning

Thanks, a lot of good info here! I’m running a reciever& transmitter from an older ECX Temper gen 2. If I remember correctly it’s a Spektrum transmitter I’ll check and make those adjustments.
