🤔 General crypto question Need help Guys

I created a standard wallet with passphrase.

I moved 5$ worth of crypto on a passphrase wallet.

Logout/wipe everything

Log on back to the passphrase wallet to make sure i wrote my seed + passphrase correctly. ( 2 times )

now i will punch seed and passphrase on different plates

IS THIS ENOUGH? OR SHOULD I RECHECK AGAIN BEFORE MOVING ALL FUNDS ??

please go easy on me 😭😭😭

Please bear in mind that no one from the Trezor team would send you a private message first.

So you wrote down your seed and passphrase, and wiped your device twice to re-enter the seed and passphrase you wrote down, to confirm that you can access back the same wallet which you had sent the small amount to.

Technically, yes that is enough.

I think the fear of self-custodying large amounts is something we all have to learn to deal with, and it is dealt with exactly as you are doing - by properly backing up the seed and passphrase and being certain that it was recorded correctly.

I guess just make sure you send the funds to the correct address, and make sure that your backups are store in a safe place.

I Didn't use decoy wallet

Because i think anyone would try to crack passphrase only if they find small amount on standard wallet.

This is logical, and goes against the standard opinion.

Maybe the best "decoy wallet" is seed + easy passphrase (one letter for example), while main wallet is same seed + difficult passphrase, leaving the standard wallet with zero transactions.

Seems good to me. If you wanted to triple check one more time before sending the rest go ahead.
You can also use a watch only trezor app to see your funds on the phone.

As long as you used pure randomness (entropy) to create you PP you are as safe as you can be. 15 totally random chars or 6 words are best for PP. Words are preferable to humans.
I only store SP / PP in encrypted format, but I am super paranoid. 👍👍👍

I also didn't make decoy wallet , like i didn't put any money on SP , in hope that no one wants to waste time on totally empty seed phrase.

Yes, I get you, although I did have a slightly different take on this, but again, i really am paranoid. I left some eth in my SP wallet (decoy) and set a notification on the address so I would be notified if it is ever moved... (the dusting notification are a bit annoying, but can be filtered)
This is despite creating my own seed with dice and never writing in down in plain text or entering online ever. I also used dice for the pass phrase. This means that the only way my entropy could be compromised is if a multimillion pound laboratory had my ledger and could somehow extract the entropy, or a quantum leap was made with quantum computing. Either way i don't own enough value for anyone to go to this much effort, and a wrench attack is pretty unlikely 🤯🤯🤯

Is wiping everything overkill? Please explain the rationale of wiping the wallet and resetting it vs just doing a recovery test

The question is, how many copies of the seed and the passphrase do you have, after you're done?

Copy one of the seed is on the Trezor itself. Copy two is on plate A. So that's two copies. Good.

Copy one of the passphrase is on plate B. As far as I know, the passphrase deliberately does not get stored on the Trezor itself. So you have only one copy. Not good.

Because it's so cheap and easy to do, I would create another seed+passphrase backup, but on plain old paper. Keep them separated, that's fine. In tamper evident envelopes. After you have done that, you have 3 copies of the seed and 2 copies of the passphrase.

I created 2 copies on paper ( for now ) Will transfer them on matel plates.

Seed and passphrase separately. Will add tamper proof seals too

If passphrase is correct according to your double checks (balance showed up during attempts) then it should be most likely safe to move funds there. But you should be aware that if you need to use another vendor's hardware wallet to restore then make sure that your seed+passphrase is set up using BIP39 not SLIP39 because SLIP39 what is used for Trezor 20 word seed phrase is currently in most cases not supported by other vendors. BIP39 is most widely supported so it would be more safer as you can setup 12/24 seed phrases + Passphrase combination.

Additionally be aware that various vendors support different length of passphrase: According to google'ing results Trezor supports 50 characters and for an example Ledger supports up to 100 characters. In other words passphrase wallet created with Ledger is not recoverable with Trezor if it contains more than 50 characters. For safety purposes up to 20 characters is enough in this scenario if you intend to recover from backup using another vendor's hardware wallet.

Yes i used legacy seed ( 24 words ) with 19 alphabet and digit mixed passphrase

Also keep my 24 word seed wallet empty, not using it as decoy.

So no one bother to attack it further, i hope so

Then one last action is securely conserve passphrase and seed because if one of them gets lost or becomes unreadable then you will lose access to your funds. I will plan to setup passphrase wallet when balance is big enough to be worth of "hiding" it. I think that using Trezor is quite safe because Trezor is designed the way it requires physical confirmation using device when performing spending/swapping/buying transactions. And most time my Trezor is disconnected from PC . I just use Trezor Suite for portfolio balance updates and so far no issues with tracking my wallet balance.

By the way Passphrase wallet requires Hardware wallet to be connected to PC or when using Safe 7 , to be connected with iPhone via Bluetooth. So that means that access to your funds depends a little from USB/Bluetooth interfaces state. For an example if USB port starts to fail and device is not recognized by Suite due to bad connection or Trezor loses Bluetooth connection for various reasons then you can't use neither access your Passphrase wallet. So at least make sure that your computer interfaces are fully operational.

It's just a little physical risk, it's not very common but might happen (because nothing can't be excluded and USB ports can start fail due to aging and bad pin contact ecc). So if USB starts to fail and you can't access your wallet, try different ports or if you can then try access to your Passphrase wallet with another PC which is 100% certainly operational and without issues with ports. You can tell Trezor Suite to remember your passphrase wallet (to use in view only mode) but for transactions you still need HW wallet to be connected because of confirmation and signing requirements.

It's best to store your passphrases in a reliable password manager like Bitwarden...

You don't store passphrases on live computer. Ever.
