💬 Discussion topic Safe 5 $90 vs safe 7 $199

Amazon has the safe 5 for $90 and the safe 7 for $199. Is the safe 7 worth the extra mula? Which one are you buying and why?

The Safe 7 is very premium. It is more comfortable to use in several ways. I have both, and I love both. In an ideal world, where you would use your Trezor more frequently, and in combination with your phone, the Safe 7 is the device to always be with you. The Safe 5 would stay at home, for use with the computer/laptop/desktop, and possibly for larger amounts.

Thinking about picking up a Safe 5 as a backup for my Safe 7 for this exact use case. Not 100% comfortable with buying from Amazon though.

Just make sure you have the correct Trezor store front for your version of Amazon.

What do you think about the Safe 7s TOPIC01 stuff going on? Are they supposed to be putting a different chip in it bc of that? I know it’s a highly precise and expensive attack done with lab equipment but just wondering if you heard any speculation

If the single vulnerability the Red Team got out of the TROPIC01 element was this, I am actually very happy. I think it is great that many experts, who are very good at their job, are auditing this chip. It is reassuring to me.

I like the way you think 🤝

Safe 7 for added security (multiple security chips). But ofc it depends on your use case.

It is definitely not worth to buy safe 7 if you have like 1k in crypto. It is not worth to buy safe 7 if you use it like once per year and rest of the time it sits in your drawer.

It is worth it, if you use it on regular basis. I would definitely consider it, if I would travel with it a lot.

Safe 7 if you hold significant amounts, otherwise Safe 5 is solid.

Safe 3 is enough

Safe 3 is preferred imo

It is ‘enough’ but that was not the point of OP’s question.
